I personally prefer doing by hand but check out griots garage, they seem to be an expert on detailing fine automobiles:

Being a Zaino rep, I mostly do things by hand, but Porter Cable random orbital buffers are the best out there. I can get a part # if you need. The one I have was about $130, and worth every penny.

I've found that buffing is best done with a machine polish, and shouldn't be used for the regular wax/polish of the car. Even moose, wax, or a polish like Meguiars should be applied by hand. It reduces the risk of swirls, and uses about 1/2 the polish.

If you have swirls or dulls in the paint, pick up a buffer and 3M Finesse-It II Machine Polish #31003. The stuff works miracles. I buff until perfect then Zaino over it.

if this on a new car then all you need is a polisher. a buffer will be too much if don't know how to use. a poilsher will get the fine scrathes out and won't leave swirl marks.

porter cable has a nice dual action for $140 depending on where you order it. they also make a meguairs brand one, which is the same.

You'll be interested in this site for detailing:

www.autopia.org

Most use the Porter Cable machine (same one Griots sells, but can be had for less).

I have seen this site before, they have some pretty good information and products, but definatley do it by hand, and use a polisher, as stated earlier, not a wax. Your car doesn't have bad oxidation, nor does it (hopefully) have any serious swirl marks or scratches...

So the one sold by Meguiars for $231 is the same as the $140 produced by Porter Cable? If so, that is a steal! I really want to get one of those and if I can save $90, that is that much closer to sway bars!

you are correct. meguairs also states that polisher is made for them by porter cable on their site. save your money on the meguairs name.

I used to do a lot of paint work, scratch and swirl removal etc. This is the right way to do it.
