i just got my trd exhaust installed (finally) and i noticed it smelled like burnt popcorn while i was driving home. is this just the smell of the exhaust? because its new perhaps? im a little curious, other than that car is runnign fine. the smell is just driving me nuts

I installed mine last week and I get that smell too. I've read many reports of it, so it's normal and should fade away.

 

i think i read on another thread that it is a coating of some sort that they put on the exhaust when they store them, to prevent rust or corosion or something like that. it gets burned off as you drive, cuasing the smell. it goes away.

 

grab some butter and a movie before the smell goes away

Just wanted to throw in that I had that very same smell when I installed mine. It took about 4-5 days to get rid of it, but I'm sure the length depends on how far/often you drive it.

DUDE!! right after i installed my Injen CAI i got that smell you are talking about. i have the stock exhaust..im using UBER air freshiners in the vents.

 

The popcorn smell is savory. Inject butter in the exhaust pipe back of the axle and you will make many new friends on the road. Do not over butter unless tailgated by annoying whiffers. Drifting is not only for the leader you know.

my TRD exhaust did the same thing. It goes away after a while, no biggie.

 

ah, my trd exhaust is comming in the mail monday, and i didnt know about this. good to hear it goes away quick.
