Default ASL feature question

I put a new 06 head unit in my 04 Tc so I don't have the owners manual for the new head unit. I know the radio has the ASL feature but I can't access it to turn it on, does it have a separate mic? What am I missing? When I push the volume **** all I get is Bass, Treble, fade, Bal. No ASL.

ASL, stands for Automatic sound leveling
If you speed up - it raises the volume,
If you slow down - it lowers the volume.

Sorry I bought the car at the end of 04 but it is a 05.

I didn't realize that was a real feature on HU's...I thought it was just gimmicky stuff someone came up with one day, like strobing to the bass.

Why would you even want something like that?

Yes, I can understand compensating for interior noise, but to just get louder when you go faster=dumb IMO

It compensates for road noise, The faster you go the more noise. Heres the link go to interactive owners manual then to 06 tC to audio and lastly basic controls.

it does work, but it kind of annoys me. If you put it on high, the volume really does change quite a bit as the road noise changes. Try driving with your windows down at different speeds and you should hear the difference

It works kind of like the "Loudness" feature on aftermarket head units. Because a typical moving car has an inherent noise level higher than, say, your house, you need to make the stereo louder to compensate. The feature typically has reduced effectiveness as you turn the volume up. I noticed the Scion feature cuts out after a certain volume (quite suddenly) level is reached. Still, since you don't have an EQ, this can actually help "fill" the sound out at lower levels because it boosts frequencies that are normally harder to hear when driving.

ASL has nothing to do with frequency unless Pioneer put something special in the TC's head unit. ASL does nothing more than adjust the volume to compensate for varying noise levels while driving so that the occupants can hear the music just as well in high noise conditions as they can in low noise conditions.

Thanks for all the info but how do you turn it on? I tried pushing the volume button but the ASL does not show up. Could it be that there is a mic some where.
