I just got my Xb Thursday and every time I start up the car the BLUE light (low engine coolant) light stays on and turns off after a couple of minutes. The coolant level is fine. The dealer said it's normal... anyone have the same prob?

It's not a low coolant indicator. It's a low TEMP indicator. It's normal. After a few minutes as the car warms up, it will go off.

you're fine...
you can drive with the light on... just don't do any racing or high revs... the light goes off after a few minutes...
You should only be worried if you ever see it red

Ok, I'm not trying to rag on anybody, but I'm curious. I don't have a Scion yet, but why do people confuse the temp light with a coolant light? Does it look like it could be a coolant light?

THe xA/xB don't have a coolant guage - just a red coolant light that comes on when the car is overheating. The Blue coolant light comes on when the coolant is cold - everytime you have a cold start - both lights are in the shape on the standard coolant symbol found on almost all car instrument clusters.

thanks for those who answered the question, for the others, why waste the bandwith posting BS?
Pablo xB: yes the lights look exactly the same... just a different color.

Also be aware that when the low temp blue coolant light is on the automatic will not shift into overdrive. Careful on the rev's until the blue light special is off.

Don't feel bad about asking a "stupid" question. We were all "stupid" before we found out too. You would be amazed at how many Echos were brought in to the dealership by rental car companies when they first came out because a "coolant light was on". I have to admit I had to go look it up the first time I saw one too!( should have paid more attention in new model class). Remember that any question that you can learn from is definately not stupid.~~~~~~~scott

I freaked out too when i saw the blue light come on for the first time. Then i read it was a low temp indicator. I then also realized that this is the first car i have owned w/ out a engine temp reader and it made sense.
