Boxer_Rebellion 09-29-2005, 05:26 PM Anyone tried these yet? Seem like copies of the Injen short ram ala YDR, but I wonder if they work as well...
Opinions?

Those intake have cheap filter elements that can break apart and get sucked into your engine. Also some times they are not machiend right inside and can cause turbulence around your MAF sensor.
I also noticed your Autobot symbol. I'm close to owning 1,000 Transformers, just wondering if you are a fellow collector.
FrankenScion 09-29-2005, 08:37 PM What is the price difference?
I know someone that has the YDR and it has worked out perfectly.
the ebay ones are like 30 bucks
Sciond 09-29-2005, 10:31 PM just go get the YDR
im actually getting the sri from injen. it seems to be a popular one here on SL so im going with that
Thirty-Nine 09-29-2005, 11:38 PM I've ordered several eBay or "generic" intakes from eBay. Do they work? Yes. However, sometimes the fit isn't as good as a name-brand intake. Also. as IS300turbo mentioned, they come with cheap filters. I'd guess they probably don't do a great job a actually filtering small particles, or they do a good job filtering, but are restrictive.
Solution?
Buy the cheap eBay intake, toss the filter (or keep it and set it aside), and buy a K&N cone filter.
The only problem, like I said, can be fit. Otherwise, at least on the Civic's I've had them on, they are simply a filter on a stick; hard to mess that up.
FrankenScion 09-30-2005, 01:41 AM Or just buy the YDR for $85 and it comes with a K&N. :D
dugzilla 09-30-2005, 02:33 AM get the YDR, I have it. It works perfectly. I made the mistake of buying the one in the first pic. I didn't even put it on the car. If anyone is interested PM me.
Boxer_Rebellion 09-30-2005, 02:57 AM What was wrong with it?
-but yeah you all have a point that by the time you add a K&N to the above intakes you might as well have got the YDR. Thanks for the insight :)

yep!
Thirty-Nine 09-30-2005, 01:35 PM Hmmm ... I wasn't familiar with the YDR.
BTW: Just something to point out -- the welds on that intake (in the 1st picture) look very poor. Then again, as long as they hold, the welds are pretty much a "for looks" thing.
dugzilla 09-30-2005, 02:00 PM I don't think there would be a problem with them holding, it just looks like poop
Chimmy3 10-01-2005, 04:22 AM The YDR does seem to be the better bet if you are going to go cheap. I don't really trust no-brand ebay items. You have to realize that at some point you would be getting exactly what you pay for, a part with no quality control or even any assurance of quality.
Not just that... that filter looks like crap.
Boxer_Rebellion 10-01-2005, 04:42 AM well after all that i got a used real Injen shortram off Ebay for 50 bux, got lucky. Thanks everyone for not letting me go to the dark side :)

The YDR comes witha K&N filter
Scion05BOPxB 10-01-2005, 02:44 PM If these intakes are only $30... you can go to most any auto parts store and buy a K&N cone for another $25, and still be $30 to the good.
Actually, I'll have to check out these intakes... cause I have an "extra" cone filter from a prototype intake for my Z24.
Boxer_Rebellion 10-01-2005, 04:16 PM ^^^ with the shipping it's at least 50 bux, so w/the K&N it's almost the same as the YDR package...
XBvitoXB 10-04-2005, 06:39 AM I have the YDR ... totally satisfied .... AS good as Injen and delivered for 85 buck .. shoot you cant ask for a better deal.
