that type II brace is just all wrong...
it should not be a bolt together. it needs to be welded!

and what is with the extra threaded holes on the mid bar???

The brushed aluminum is a template only. They are made in Powder coat red already.

lava, you might not like it and to each their own. But I will say that when APR does teh research and develops a part for the market they are high quality and race tested at the track. This comes from years developing and working with communities like Suby's and EVO's

def needs to be welded.

any connection secured by bolt will have some give/slack.

and yes to each their own.
i say buy a gt-spec or cusco welded type

Hey Lava,

I agree it needs to be welded, but you could bolt this on and tac weld it and it would be ok, remember this isn't going on a race car. :silly:

should a moderator really be dissing the product that a sponsor is trying to sell?

I had the same thoughts as dgHotLava about how it attaches to the frame. Using a single bolt seems like it would still allow too much movement.

It looks really sweet, and having it powdercoated red sounds even better--but it seems like it would be more for looks than function. Unless it's got some bosses that go into preexisting holes that you can't see, only using one bolt per corner seems to me like it would still allow too much frame movement.

So where does one go about getting a Cusco made one? I'd rather go with a Cusco part than the gt-spec.

Thats kind of how I feel as well Randode. But mods here on this forum do what they want from what I see on here.

Just like any other under chassis brace out there whether it be Cusco, APR or someone else. If you want to strengthen it then weld it after you install it. Unless someone makes a brace that comes welded to a whole chassis out there that I havent seen before.

By the sound of it dgHotLava is talking about it being welded together, not to the frame. I would think that it wouldn't be to rigid under stress being bolted together and all. I would rather bolt a "welded together" part that bolt a bolted together part. My common sense tells me which is more likely to be stronger and not flex, and that is ding ding ding... welded.

Here's a pic of the gt-spec, tell me which looks stronger, it should be obvious.

the slack/give will be sooo minor. and in case anyone forgot any option is a huge improvement over stock.......

The only thing with that brace being welded is that you would have to re-powder coat it.

Yeah, but why drop the money on that when you can get a brace that is finished as one unit. I would think it would be better in the long run to buy the correct piece that looks like it can withstand a beating.

romanova - Do you know of any place that sells the Cusco braces? Do they basically look the same as the gt-spec units? Your info is greatly appreciated.

Ok, For what most every day drivers will use these for the give/slack that it might give, who would notice this? You are nit-picking something that works wonderfully and is just as strong as something welded. Now if this was for something that was true cart type racing then the only other thing I would most likely do is speed wire the nuts.

Beatrush Japan has a under car brace for $171 nice welds and all there is a thead in this forum on it by Kami only bummer is not available for a lil bit...i think this APr brace looks damn fine for normal drivers looking to make the car a lil more fun but yes it should be welded for more hard driving like Touge

I found another site that sells them. I'd like to order the brace from Kami, but I don't want to wait forever.
