Today I ventured down south of where I live to Oregon.

One of the dealerships had a used 04 BCP. So I stopped to have a look.

Bone stock except for some cheesy scratched 18" rims with missing centercaps. 26K on it and looking like it need some new tread already.

I asked the price expecting 14-15 is

20K!!!!!!!! YEAH more than I paid for mine new! I couldnt help but bursting out with a chuckle as I walked off.

The salesman asked if I was wanting to trade mine in on it. I said noooooooooooo

He tried to defend his outrageous price as "retail" and I said yeah retail for a loaded 06

I cant believe that they would even ask that much for it!

I think Ill sell mine for 25K............

Was it an actual Scion dealership? Did they have any new ones on the lot? Or was it some cheesy used car lot?

They're probably just trying to make some $$ on the wheels.

The local Toyota dealer, no new Scion's, has two used boxes. One with crap scratch up rims and graphics for $19,000, the other, stock was around $16,000. If they can't get that............. :ponder: .................... :money:.................... :nope:

They said the same thing.

when I was looking for my box a year ago there was a PW at a honda dealership that had 15000 on it and a few options and they wanted 19000 for it.

I told them I could get a new one for 15, they said go ahead....I did

Don't laugh about that. If, and when gas prices go way above $3.00, I bet you COULD get 30K on E-Bay. Heck, some idiots pay $500 for a coffee mug or $1000 for a stamp worth $.05.

I might do it too !!!

It just goes to show you what a little bit of patience and research does for the wallet when you go to buy one of these things.

Also, it's kind of comforting to know that my box was actually worth more as opposed to less when I signed the title!

I am fond of the 60's-70's Muscle cars and British rides. I always have to laugh when I find some rusted out dilapadated piece of crap with a salesman trying to convince me it's a "Classic".

Take heart fellow xB types, you made a good, no wait.... a great choice when buying a car. If nothing else you are beating some very long odds. when it comes to car values.

When I was at the dealer the sales guy actually showed me that on KBB.com private party used value was HIGHER than the price I was paying. And they've always said that a new car loses 20% of its value the minute you dirve it off the lot. NOT THIS ONE!

Ya, I hear you, Family Toyota (absolute scammers) tried to sell me an (used?) 05 xB w/ leather for 19k OTD. I was like frick that, I'll just buy a new one, and I plan to, but not from them.

It is crazy! I just did a search on cars.com and there is a 05 AUTO with 9300 miles in Pensacola and it is 22K!! Stock as a rock!

That is so nutty

Only a dealer would attempt to sell it for that. They're hoping some sucker will come along wanting one RIGHT NOW and not want to wait a few weeks to get it off the dock... pathetic.

We sell used boxes here for numbers that would make you cry its so much. People want them and they dont want to wait. They are willing to pay crazy prices. Now other people are the same as the people in this thread and they laugh at me when I tell them the price and the explination. But then I send to them to kbb.com and justify my statement. So yeah, its robbery...

You can answer this if you want or not, but about how much does a dealer make off the sticker price of a Scion? I know anything above sticker is in your pocket, but just curious about the sticker price of a base model as your profit goes up with options. No flames from me nor am I trying to start trouble, just curious.

All I can say is that is great news for us Scion owners. I bout my 05 xB for 16,500, it was a demo with only 1,300 and upgrades (all mats, pillar appliques, 6-disc changer, spoiler, sport pedals, fog lights) maybe I could get about a good 25K for mine now.

I will answer your question. Mostly because you can find the info on the net right at Edmonds.com anyway. There is about $1200 of gross in a new Scion. The sales people make anywhere from $125-250 commision per vehicle. Depends on the dealer. So the dealership will pocket about $900 per vehicle. For accessories there are pay plans for each dealership which they create. I can tell you I sold an xA last week for $19,500 with a ton of stuff on it. The comission on that sale was $550.

With used Scions it all depends on what we bought the car for. Inherently a dealership will make more on a used Scion than a new one. There is more money to be made in used cars no matter what make or model it is.

I recently posted a similar thread. A Scion dealer in my area was selling a 2005, 19k miles, and a few scratches for $16.9k. I messed around with him, and he came down to $14.6k.

I'd rather wait a few weeks a buy a brand new one.

Just curious, is there anyone on this forum who purchased a used scion xB, and spent an "arm and leg" on it? Is there anyone who will admit to it :P

Thanks for the info. I just wondered how much that no haggle price made the dealer, that is a fair amount per auto. Being that they sell themselves, at least mine did. I only spent 1 hour at the dealership. That included two trips and test drives. Paper work only took 20 minutes. Best experience I have ever had buying a new car. Honda came close but the Scion put them to shame, BAD!

Thank goodness for Pure Pricing. With the crazy demand and short supply, they could be making a mint in Dealer Added Mark-Up. When the Miata's first came out, they were selling for 7 to 10 THOUSAND over MSRP! On a $15K car!!!

I remember looking at a P/T Cruiser when they were introduced that was at a New Dealers used lot that they had picked up on auction. The New dealers wanted $22,000 for a $16,500 list with a $5,500 "Market adjustment" ! This clown wanted - get this - $28,000 for the thing! Now, a couple of years later the Chrysler dealer here in town that had the Market Adjustment will take less than $11,000 for the same thing they wanted twicee the price a few years ago.

You gotts love these guys.

Non Scion dealers only know the cars are hot and do not really know what the vehicles sell for NEW. I hear about this all the time. These guys go to auctions and bid on cars and they never realize that the Scion's are as inexpensive as what they are. We are not able to buy them used b/c these idiots pay more for them used wholesale that we sell them for NEW!!

If you can do without your xB for a few months, go for it and put your order in for a new one. However, a quick check of the "completed listings" of xB's does not show any unmodified going for more than the retail.

Very few models cars have actually gone up in value. I own a Datsun 240Z and it is one of those few. A used 240Zs with low miles would sell for 125%+ of the new price for about the first 1-2 production years. I know of a guy who sold his after 78k miles and owning it for almost 2 years at what he bought it for. Until I see actual consistent sales numbers for 3-6 months running, I don't want to rain on your parade, but have to say the xB is not a member of the club.
