Default Noisy TC poll YES/NO?

For you TC owners... do you experience any type of loud, unpleasant noises like rattling, etc?

Please, answer YES/NO and list how long you've had your TC and the type of noise and location. I'm debating about getting a TC and would like to know if the noise is a common problem, or one in a thousand.

Although I voted no, I do have a rattle in the hatch but it is caused by faulty hatch struts. I'm getting them fixed tomorrow at the dealer and I will be rattle-free once again. Before the hatch struts gave up, I had no rattles.

Still loving the car at 15,000 miles.

23k miles, more rattles than you can shake a tambourine and a can-can at. dosen't really bug me that much I guess.. I still love my car, I just turn up the music so I don't hear them as much.. It's downright embarrasing with no music and passengers however.

Hatch rattle from two distinct areas
Center radio cover HVAC "Creaking"
Glove box rattle.

Edit: hit reply too soon on accident!

Quiet for a compact.

Uh, your car smells bad White Del tC? Have you taken it to the dealership? The engine has some burning off to do in the first 5k.

I have a creaking noise in the center radio some where, not sure if it is the radio cover because i tried holding it while driving but it still creaks, so im clueless about whats making that noise.

If anyone has this problem and fixed it please let me know.

Wow, you guys are so quick to reply... didn't expect this many results yet. I still want to see more tho, so I can better gauge with the law of large numbers. Generally it seems you guys are able to fix the problem, or you learn to live with it... I however, wouldn't want to live with it if I just spent 17k on a brand new car.

Speedo Rattle (dash)
Radio Rattle (door and surrounding area)
Lower center console rattle ( shifter area)
Seat squeek creak
Roof rattle (Rear panel of glass roof)
Hatch Rattle(not the thump noise but various buzzing and rattling noises)
Passenger Door Glass rattle (Loud ticking like noise when door closed with window down)
6500 miles

Thats just the noises and rattles list *sigh*

Default Noise

my car makes noises when i shift into 3rd/ 5th gear and accelerate. The throttle starts to shake and make rattling noises then goes away when I hit past a certain rpm. (NO, I am not shifting to early) I went to the dealership and they said it was the design and there was nothing they could do about it. Please let me know if anyone else is having this issue with their manual transmission.

Mine has a minor hatch rattle at 2K miles. But its not loud enough to bother me. Our 03 Camry has this horrible rattle in the dash. Its nothing compared to that. If you think the tC's bad try riding in a Suburban, i rode in one the other day...

i did have noise.. but nothing that foam tape didn't fix.. hatch, glove box, fuse panel, center console clip area..

i did have the sunroof noise, but was fixed with silicone spray on hinges in the sunroof mechanism..

so it's gone now.. i think it's the plastic they used, it's not that thick/heavy and it can rattle really easily..

what do u expect for the price of this car, most of the interior is plastic like most toyotas. But i still think its the best deal out there and i have no regrets about this car.

the good news is most of the rattles can be fixed if you know how to; ok for everyone with a sqeeky noise coming from the radio or ac vent heres the solution to the problem. Take apart the console and unscrew the 4 screws that hold the door in place. Under the vents there will be 3 arches, put some thin weatherstripping or something soft on the tip where it will go into the hole when u put it back to stop the sqeeking. I started to hear this noise after I installed my Alpine HU if u wanted to know. Let me know if this works for u guys.

12k miles. Rattles stopped when I found some loose parts rolling around in the hatch and fixed it.

UPDATE: Got my hatch support struts replaced under warranty today and now I am 100% rattle-free. Ah, it's so nice having the hatch support itself now without me having to hold it open.

"what do u expect for the price of this car,"

I really hate when people say this, be it about rattles or paint or any other quality problem with the car, because I received vastly less money than the price of the tC for my trade-in, and my trade-in did not have paint or rattle problems...

If all cars priced like the tC had as many rattles and paint problems that would be a different story.
