Default Fuel, engine management, parameter scanning?

Ok, I just picked up my xB and the wife's xA a few weeks ago but I have dreams of boost again from my last car, a 3800 Series2 V6 in my Bonneville SSEi. I am no stranger to boost as that motor made well over 300WHP.

However, our 3800 community had means to see just what the engine was doing. We have OBDII scanners that can monitor every PCM (You guys call it an ECU) parameter under the sun to see just what the car was doing. There was also tons of info on just how much fuel the car can push on the stock injectors and what injectors were needed to get more fuel.

SO, my question is, some of you guys running boost or for anyone in general, is there any tool out there that you can hook up to the OBDII port on these cars and monitor what is going on in the ECU? I can't imagine someone would boost a computer controlled car but not be able to monitor just what the car is doing.

Any information on such tools would be great! I will buld my own kit for a turbo or S/C as I believe the current kits are a bit overpriced. These cars only need about 4lbs of boost to be fun and safe I would think, but I don't like pushing any boost unless I can see what the car is doing.

Thank you in advance. I am a new member here but hope to hop up the x's a bit. Just need to learn the motor and how to see what the car is doing!

I think you can do all the monitoring you need with basic guages such as oil pressure, fuel pressure, water temp and boost. In my boosted box, I had those guages as well as the AEM UEGO wideband o2. Those should give you all the monitoring you need.

Well yess gauges are needed, however, I am more after scan log capability, etc. A wideband is great and all, but I like to see everything at once such as the pulse width of the injectors, information the ECU see's from knock sensors, what it's doing as far as commanded timing advance, what the MASS AIR is reading all along with RPM etc so I can dial it in through the whole range.

Basically I want to see a readout of what the computer is doing. We have this ability in the 3800 world and perhaps it has me spoiled, but I don't like pushing the limits of the motor and having no clue what the computer is doing as I drive. We had laptop interfaces so it could all be logged and reviewed at a later time, as well as being able to reflash the ECU with new code, etc.

I guess it could be just me. Does anyone have specifications as to what our fuel system can support as far as airflow etc? If you change the injectors there is no way to recalibrate it is there?

I probably should have made a topic of Electronics and ECU.
