Hey all....

I came across this in my daily internet surfing:

http://www.autoindex.org/news.plt?no=1246#

Scroll down a bit to the bB Concept...and there is a pic on the right side of the page (if anyone wants to post it please do..)

I looked for this on here already but couldn't find...

Just thought you'd want to know!

I to would not mind seeing that over the t2B. I could see the lines getting a little softer for final release, but all good.

I don' t like that, its looks like the PT cruiser, definitely not a direction I would like to see this car going.

don't like the up-swept beltline. causes the back windows to become smaller then needed.

a bit too rounded and curved in at the lift gate for my tastes.

They put a Toyota emblem on the front grille instead of the bB emblem? Where's the cargo area? Ofcourse we'll have to wait for the official Feb 2006 release in Japan land. The US might not even get the new bB at all...the replacement might be based off the Avensis chassis... ala t2B concept. That looks smaller than the current bB/xB.

oh god...it does...NO! and I loved it so... COME ON :loser: . LOL
IMHO the only thing that makes the PT ugly is the mustache and the forward slanting roof, that is what makes it look like a Cockroach...now this...this is hot, it has fixed the downfalls of the PT, and adds flare. OKAY, the windsheild needs to be smaller, but that is all I see, I personly LOVE IT.

i think they concepted it in the wrong color. the limeish puke green is ruining it for me. plus it is a fade to redish? HURLLLLLL. anyways i don't think it looks that good. the windows tilt up and the front windshield looks like it is stretched up. i also don't like the front bumper IMO. but it could just be the color throwing me off.

from thehollywoodextra.com (http://thehollywoodextra.blogspot.com)
Toyota has just introduced this wierd looking concept. But behind the overdone fenders, skirts etc... Is the next Xb.
It just looks like a light redesign of the present car... So even Scion is playing it safe....
Here is a shot of the production model, currently testing. You can't see much, I know.
And it does look quite a bit longer than the concept.

Who knows, maybe that's part of the camouflage as well...

They used cardboard boxes to camo a Box on Wheels? From another similar post: Are those 5-Lug Steelies on the bB? And where's the center clusters like on the current bB/xB?

I'm not feeling this new thing, personally. How can they improve on PERFECTION? They need to start over. It looks too forced, trying to make the Box hipper...

IMO, they need to go with something more along the lines of the t2b, built on the Avensis platform instead of Echo if they are worried about the "Power-Hungry"market. I'd rather see them stay with the smaller sized econo but fun types. Either that or give us a few of the half-dozen other JDM cars that could come over with few changes and be big hits.

As I said eslewhere...
Looks like 5-lug... :)

Also looks like considerably more overhang at both ends than on the current xB. One of those "longer, wider, lower" things that happens to US market vehicles?

One of the most endearing things about the current xB design is the lack of "waste space" in the styling. That's why the current one is shaped like a box - no swoopy curves trying to hide the very functional "Urban Utility Vehicle" shape. Form follows function, eh?

That's actually one of the things that really attracts me to the styling of this "Tokyo City Car" (bB/xB).

I don't WANT an HHR or PT Cruiser. :D

I like my little box that even makes a Honda Element look curvey... :P
:D

i think it looks alright

those are five lug wheels!

and the "production" model above does not look like it has the same curved up windows it looks more like they took the xB and added stuff from the concept model.
then again it is all covered up

I think they took some of the styling cues from the t2B without making it look as hideous. I hated the t2B but love the bB concept. I certainly hope they bring it over as the new/replacement xB. When it comes to color I was wondering how close it is to the color the RS3 is going to be...

Looks like the next gen Yaris dash in there. Not too surprising, and I like the idea of a bigger sound system.

I know that Panasonic is trying to get into the action with potentially providing upgrade headunits in our cars. Something with HDD and an SD slot for video and music and what not.

That's what they hope, at least.

Comparing the green concept vehicle and the camoflaged one, there are some big differences. Where the concept has no side hatch windows, and little room for any, look at the rear of the camobox., there's all kinds of room there. It does appear the front bumper has changed and is not quite so flat all the way to the ground, and the hatch area grew a few inches. I love the interior, but unfortunately I fear that the concept is nowhere close to the prototype we see camoflaged.

To everyone complaining about it resembling a PT Cruiser - you know what they say about opinions...

I was disappointed when learning the xB would be discontinued in 2007, but this would be a suitable replacement. Although it does resemble a PT Cruiser from the side (fenders and angle of tail-lights), it doesn't offend me since I own a PT and love driving it, but the mileage is bad (22 average... yuk). But then again, I didn't buy a PT because everyone liked it.

Does anyone know if Toyota will continue with the fuel efficient engines, or will they upgrade to the 2.4L Camry Engine as with the tC?

I definitely do not like how it looks (PT Cruiser-like), but i trust Scion to make it into something with more appeal. I think if people with xBs don't all like it that much, it doesn't have much hope elsewhere.

gjpjr84
10-14-2005, 03:28 AM
well you have to think, NOBODY EVER thought that the xB would sell here in the US. and look what happened.
I think toyota can make this work. I dont think it looks half bad.

Agreed! Although I do like the interior in the concept (and we do spend more time in the vehicle than out), it's not enough of a selling point for me personally. I understand that change can be a good thing, but I'll pass on this one.

Oh btw, on the comments about the Chevy HHR, the "PT Cruiser-knockoff thing," . . . the guy who designed the HHR is the exact same guy who designed the PT Cruiser. Knock off? Maybe. . . but it's kinda hard to rip off your own work. Is it still ugly? YES!

The new Subaru Tribeca was designed by a former Alpha Romero guy. . . which is why the grill bears such a strong resemblence. Ugly? Yes, ugly as well.

SirScion
10-15-2005, 03:08 PM
^^you guys wanna know why the Suby grill is like that? (btw, it is on the impreza too..) Well, even if you dont Imma tell you, Subaru is trying to give it the feel of an airplane, with the wings and fusellogde(sp?!) and have you ever been in a tribeca, IT IS SO COMFORTABLE for the driver and the passenger (except those in the third row) the whole thing just WRAPS around you, like in a cockpit, kinda like the last gen. Supras.

Well these are concept/prototype pics. . . nothing is necessarily going to go into production, let alone the whole thing as a whole. But it does look fairly production ready, so we might see something about 90% clost to the pics.

On the lighting thing, interior lighting is ok, so long as it isn't visible outside the car from a predetermined distance. Exterior lighting in blue or red (except for tail lights) is illegal in every state, and most other decorative (non-functional) lights are illegal in almost every state that I know of. There are certain exceptions, like clearance lights and limo's (longer cars deem it a safety issue).

There is no way that any of the exterior neon stuff will hit production as an accessory. The interior lights alone will probably be dimmmed significantly.

exactly. i was just too lazy to have gone through all that typing, thank you for doing it for me. :)

in some states you can get away with some different colored lights as long as they are in a "stock location"

i think that's a great idea.. and if the element had it, never knew, never could look at that thing long enough to look inside, i think it's ugly..
