Default tC 5-Speed shifter rocking back and forth (5th Gear)

After owning my tC for about a month now, i've noticed that on 5th gear when I am cruising at any speed and I let go of the gas, the shifter rocks one way (I forget if it's forward or backward) and then when I step on the gas it rocks back the other way.

It only happens on 5th gear for me and I have never seen this happen in other cars that's i've driven/owned.

Any insights on this?

One quick question before I go any further. Is there any noise(grinding) coming from the tranny? When you accelerate there may be some movement which is normal. The rule of thumb with the tranny usually is if there is no noise then it isnt too big of an issue. In the long run it may be but short term there isnt. Best bet if to take it to the dealer if you think that its that big of an issue because it will be covered under the warranty. Good luck

if there's no weird noise, that's normal when you hit the gas, just engine doing it's thing

There is no noise coming from the tranny, just rocking back and forth.

Like I said tho, the weird thing is that it only happens in 5th gear.

I already took it to the dealership, but the service advisor said "Oh it's normal, it's the torque". I didnt want to get into it at the time, but i think that's bs.

It is normal, you probably never noticed it before in other cars you have owned because the cars had shorter shifters so they moved less. The shifter should "rock" like that in all the gears, and you should notice it more in lower gears, you are probably just not looking at the right time. Cars with Transverse mounted engines (Traditional front drive set up)rock front to back, and in cars with liner mount set ups (Traditional rear drive set up) the shifter rocks Left to right. The ammount of motion depends on the length of the shifter, the ammount of torque applied to or by the engine, and the stifness of the motor and trany mounts. Transverse mount cars you may see some slight left to right motion with the front to rear motion, but it will be bairly precievable due to the front to rear swing.

Engine torque dampner! Pm me for details. I can touch the gas in fifth and the car goes, i can let off and the motor satys put. You will notice a more responsive drivetrain with less shakes and bumps.

i haven't noticed the shifter moving with accelleration, i do notice that it vibrates in fifth when i apply more than 1/3 throttle going over 55 mph. but that was already discussed in another thread

happens on mine. 5th is the only real perceivable rocking. i'm trying to think which way it goes: i think it rocks back on accel, forward on deccel.
