Default Just Picked Up a 6.5" Component Speaker Set - 56K =)

Just got a set of Kenwood KFC-P605ie 6 1/2" Component speakers....

» 3/4" UFLC soft dome tweeter
» 5,000 Hz external crossover
» frequency response 35-25,000 Hz
» power range 8-50 watts RMS
» peak power handling 200 watts
» sensitivity 91 dB

I installed this set in the rear (6.5" woofers & corssovers in mid-panel) but still have a few things left on the install to make it complete:

1. Should I install the tweeters? If so, what location in the rear is optimal (see the image below w/red circle for an estimated location)?

2. I need an amp to power these, and a future front set of the same components. I am looking at getting a 30W - 50W x 4 amp and mounting it underneath the front seat. -Got any suggestions?

kenwoods, rock, i've been looking to get those. did you have to take the whole rear panel off, or just the speaker cover? and how hard was it to install?

stock speakers always suck, if you hold the SSP button for a few seconds you can change the vehicle type, use the volume to move it to type xA, much louder. and i just went and checked on my car, you gotta take off the whole panel, bleh

Oh nice I didn't know you could change the car mode.

The components cost me like $159.99 from Crutchfield...which I highly recommend. You might find a MUCH lower price elsewhere, but Crutchfield includes not only the set, but an installation manual, several guides on how to obtain optimal sound (less vibration, ideal installation locations, etc.) speaker wiring harnesses (so you don't have to cut your stock wiring) and the speaker baffle that let's you bump up the stock 5.25" size to 6.5" easily. No drilling required. (I also had a $50 credit )

Included Wiring Harness: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-SCE8p9s...1035&s=0&cc=01
Included Speaker Bracket: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-SCE8p9s...SAT6&s=0&cc=01

The speaker installation requires you to pull the lower part of the back seat as well as the entire side panel...but don't let that throw you off. It is all held in by clips, meaning you don't need any tools for this! Just pull and push! There's a writeup about this somewhere on this forum...just gotta run a quick search.

The sound is definitely waaaaay more defined, but again, I'll need an amp to get the full juice outta these badboys. The stock stereo is only pushing out like 20W I think, and these are rated at 50Watts RMS.

Anyone install an amp under the passanger seat?

yep yep, MB Quart is much much better than those Pioneer or Kenwood (even better than Infinitive, Alpine...)

I'd be very careful in positioning those tweeters....if not placed properly, you'll be killing your ears by one side and not getting hardly any sound from the other side(when in the back seat).....If it were mine, I would mount the tweeter inside the panel with the mid somehow..... If you're set on making new holes for the tweeter, I'd move the spot you have marked as far forward on that panel as possible and fire them toward the rear seat....try to keep the sound field of the rear tweeters behind the front seats....

I've been debating on putting components in the back myself..but I'm completely unsure of where I should put them or if it will be too much on the highs. Believe there was someone who did it a while back and posted pics of where he installed it. I can't seem to find the post right now though. Well keep us posted on where you install them and how it sounds.

Since they are rear speakers, I wouldn't be overly concerned about tweeter positioning. They just need to be placed pretty close (a few inches) to the mids so you don't get bad separation. In fact, I'm surprised you put the components in the back instead of the front. Front speakers are way more important, considering the majority of the time you just have people in the front (and yourself, of course). The front stock speaker locations even have a separate tweeter spot already. I usually just put coaxial speakers in the back, preferably the same brand/series as the fronts.

I would try sticking the tweeters in different spots with some double-sided tape until you find a spot that sounds good and mount them there.

^^^I agree with ya.....if there aren't already aftermarket components up front, by all means put these in the stock locations.....

The biggest problem I see with tweeter positioning in the rear is the probable chance of getting a harsh tweeter sound right in your ear either in the front seat or back.....

what do you have for your front speakers? imo you should have bought coaxials for the rear and bought some bad ___ components for the front..

front is for you to listen to.
rear is to fill the sound (it doesnt make that much of a difference if you put components back there)

but hey thats mine opinion

and its best to keep your tweeter close to your mid-bass driver.
