Ok, everyone, I am back...

I recently posted on the question of me being tall and being able to drive comfortably in the tC...(the one which will very soon be sitting in my driveway...)

But here is just an opinion poll...very simply put....

Manual or Auto Transmission?? What do you think???
(this question is especially for the owners that have had their tC the longest..)

I prefer manual, but its all preference. I had an auto for 8 years before the tC and dont see myself going back soon. Im 6'1" and fit in the car jsut fine and my 6'4" buddy didnt have any problems driving it either.

In general... for small engines (under 4.0L), manual works best for performance and gas mileage. Above that, the high torque levels even the playing field, and its all personal preference.

For tC's, manual is the only way to go. Why? Well, the gear ratios are way TOO high in an automatic for aggressive driving, on top of the fact it uses a power-robbing torque converter.

i know i drive an xB but i've only owned manuals except for the occasional winter beater in auto. i prefer manuals much more fun and sporty hands down!

i think it depens what kind of driver you are... but i prefer manual BY FAR... after driving manual , auto just just doesnt feel right unless you are buying a family car with great engine and transmission like a G35 or IS350 or something like that

Just because you're asking in the Power Hungry forum, I'll have to say you're gonna get 95% of the people saying manual.

Manual is best hands down (plus we're the only ones right now that can use the SC :P).

i have a manual, and its really fun to drive although i dont discourage auto because sometimes i like to drive my moms car just to chill and relax a little bit but in the long run manual is more fun and i feel like im in total control. after driving an auto for a while it irritates the hell out of me the way it up/down shifts even when you dont want it to.

should have just made it a poll. i say manual is the only way to go. i do understand why some people go auto that are doing alot of stop and go driving in traffic b/c they usually do not get enough room to take advantage of the manual ratio, or some of them just get tried of the clutch. so it all depends on what you want the car for

manual till the day i day, that's how every car should be. all you auto drivers can walk or take the bus.

I'm the odd man out. I say 'Auto' because my girl likes to drive the tC (when I let her! :lalala: ) and she doesn't drive "Manual'. That's all I need is to hear grindin' gears! :P

I drive Auto too!! lol, i mean ve been drivin manual since i was in sixth grade, but wen i went here to the u.s. 2 years ago, i cant drive nemore coz i dont have a license, but wen i got my license last february ive been drivin my moms minivan and my aunt's rav 4, i mean manula is reall cool, its more fun, nd i definitely feel that i ahve more control of my car, now i got auto coz first of all i like to chill in my car and listen to music, and have a lot of friends in my car and have fun... lol, so auto i think is pretty cool too, not too "shabby", but on the contrary id drive a manual any day... lol, coz it's really more fun... in the driving perspective! lol

manual all the way! you have more control of your car for one, more gears means better performance..and if you ever want to boost your car the manuals gonna hold up better ( although toyota auto trannys are tough) plus you have more options to upgrade , stronger clutch , light flywheel etc.

Manual is the only way to go unless u just want the car for cruisin around town and dont want to race it. my car before this was an auto and i hated it. id only go back to manul if it was a super luxury car or an suv but like everyone else has said its a personal preference

depends what you want. Auto if you want to relax when you drive or manual it you want to work when you drive and go a little faster.....I don't get it the scion site says the auto gets better GM "MANUAL 22/30
AUTOMATIC 23/30

*2005 EPA-estimated 22 city/30 highway mpg for tC
manual transmission and 23 city/30 highway for tC
automatic transmission. Actual mileage may vary." i heard manuals get more oh well,
i guess based on the driver. huh? i would say manual. mor fun.

Before the tC, I had never driven a manual car (maybe once or twice in a parking lot, but not actually going around town, etc...) I was very hesitant to get a 5 speed because like I said, it was new to me, and I was worried that it would be too annoying/cumbersome in traffic. First off, after driving stick for a couple weeks, shifting becomes so natural that you don't even notice. And the clutch is extremely light, so you won't get a sore leg from sitting in traffic. I've had my car for about 6 months now and I get stuck in traffic regularly on the long island expressway. Even then I don't regret getting the manual, and I've never had a problem with my leg getting tired.

I've yet to see a person regret getting a manual... can't say the same for the automatic crowd though. There was even a post on here by thequietthings saying that his future cars will all be standard.

i hate when i see a hooked up or sports car autotragic. whenever i see an auto vette, its soul cries out to me. and whenever i see someone with a modded slushbox i feel like telling them "didnt feel like learning stick did ya..."

These threads are really just a good excuse to start an argument.

It's a personal choice. Get the transmission you'd prefer to drive for the next five years.

There are tons of cars that don't even offer manual transmissions and the cost of upgrading them to handle more power is much less than custom building & installing a manual gearbox. I'm all for driving manual, but keep in mind that some ppl have no choice but to get an auto.

i guess based on the driver. huh? i would say manual. mor fun. It's because the manual and automatic have different gearing ratios. They set the manual up to be more aggressive, hence less gas mileage.

i live in los angeles and sit in crazy traffic every day. to deal with this problem i smoke fat blunts to calm my nerves so the drive wont be too bad. smokin & shifting in bumper2bumper traffic? auto for me. and i still am adding performance, i got the whole trd suspension upgrade plus rear swaybar, injen exhaust, injen cai, and ill be getting dc headers very soon, and i dont race, well not really. an auto w/ performance, hate me if you must.

I bought my car for competing audio so I need space in the place of the clutch. I am still modifying the performance of the car big time.

I dunno I test drove the auto TC and then I bought a manual... I am so much more impressed by the manual. You can actually feel some of that 160 quoted HP. The auto feels sluggish.

The automatic has extra space, where
