Surprised noone has asked this, but with the supercharger, like most other sc/turbo cars, will it need premium gas? Will the gas mileage be affected in a noticeable way?

TRD says a minimum of 91 octane.

The SC installation instructions say 91+ octane.
No one has reported results on fuel efficiency, however I will assume by the simple laws of physics that your gas mileage will be affected. You’re flowing more fuel and more air and boost is fairly constant with a super charger.

well considering most any car with a super or turbo recommends 91, i don't see why anyone should ask this question, but ya, 91 minimum

Straight Nitro Methane..or whatever premium is in your area would work too I guess.

Agreed but this is a happy middle ground. I was also looking into a RX-8, and\or WRX STI. But really did not want the huge payment or the gas bill to go with it.

I know Cali has some of the "worst" gas in the country, and this question came into mind. If a fairly non-sensitive turbo or sc car can run on cali 91 oct., will it run on "nicer" michigan 89 oct.? haha

In TN, premi is usually 93 oct. There is one gas station where you can get some race gas. I suppose 100+ octane.

The answer is maybe. However, I doubt it. You might be able to get away with 89 octane.. but would 10 cents per gallon be worth the risk?

As for gas milage, I would say.. expect to lose a couple miles per gallon. More if you hammer religiously, less if you drive like my wife...

I was just wondering. Did you guys read the scc mag where they noted that people who dyno'd their cars in texas got more hp than the same gas in cali? I thought that was interesting.

Pretty sure octane has nothing to do with it unless the car adjusted it's timing for a higher octane fuel. What was the temp and altitude of both places, that could be why. It gets damn hot in Texas, which robs a lot of ponies. You're also talking two different dyno's and maybe two different cars, that test doesn't hold any merit.

I am no expert but I read that the supercharger doesnt kick in unless you are tryign to speed up fast so if you are cruising onteh highway you are still utilizing teh same amount of gas however you need premium always.
