Ok so by the end of this week I will have the S/C for my tc installed and I already have the Megan Racing header. I also should have the dyno's completed and ready to show you guys by this weekend also. But the question is what now? My options seem relatively limited. I can run with the full exhaust and a downpipe which I hope after it's superchargerd should free up 20 or so horses but then I'm at a sticking point. Any experts out there want to tell me how I am going to get my tc to a point where it can atleast run with a base SRT-4. I'm not shooting for the EVO's 0r the STI''s I would have gone turbo but how will I be able to hang with the middle class 4 bangers out there?

Options: ????

wow the srt-4.
That would require some serious bank

Good luck

A port and polish job would help out a bit.

Also, Alphawerks has an aftermarket throttle body.

Thirdly, the s/c has an airbox - you might want to swap the airbox out for a cone filter.

Plus a lightened flywheel to get through your power faster (SRT4s have these stock as well as LSDs so what do you think?)

What still needs developing: new cams, new intake manifold and some other things, I'm sure.

Don't forget that you need to get that power to the ground better - an engine damper and a LSD will help.

I'm sure there's more to do out there..

The SRT-4 will hang with an Evo and the STI. The problem with this kind of thinking is there is always something faster that you are gonna want to hang with. Just build decent power the you can USE. Anyone can make 400 horses with enough money, it doesn't mean its usable. Just throw the s/c on there give it a nice supporting cast of parts and just be happy with what you got. Also assuming you can launch it well and the s/c gives you some decent gains you should be able to hang.

up the boost on the sc, swap out the pulley....

The SRT 4 has 230 crank horse right! the tc with sc and full exhaust should put you around 220, thats pretty close, the biggest advantage the srt4 has is that lsd, other than that your tc should hang with it.

if you get the sc, he cant change the pulley (if he wants to keep it under warranty)

you deff wanna do a full exhaust, and about the cone filter, im not sure if it would make that much of a differance, the air box will be larger with a TRD filter i believe, which is pretty good filter

the install guide says the SC coems with a new intake manifold... im not sure if this is true or not though...

also, as one of the guys said, alphawerks makes a larger TB, i would deff get that

look for a pulley kit that will increase boost from your SC. NST, www.NonStopTuning.com is said to be working on some stuff. after that, work on better traction with tires, suspension, etc.

The pulley on the SC is secured by a "tamper proof" casing. So, my guess is that if you change the pulley on it, you void some/all of the warranty on it.

Wow a lot of good stuff thanks guys. I came across a Unichip site and was reading about it. I can get it for 720$ but they don't have any Unichips designed for the tc with a supercharger. Most cars your only looking at around 10-15 hp but I noticed on a lot of the turbo/ supercharged cars the gains ranged from 22-44 hp. "According to there dyno's" Would this be a worth while investment? Does any one have any experience with the Unichip at all?

Secondly, what do you think the throttle body by Alphaworks would add in terms of numbers to a TC supercharged, because they are pretty pricy for only a 4-8 hp gain. I found them for 450$.

i thought a fmic could be used on a centrifugal s/c?

i thought a fmic could be used on a centrifugal s/c?

As long as there is enough room for the pipeing it might be possible.

I might be wrong here on this one, but since this is a centrifugal s/c it will be making 7psi near the top of the RPM band. That means that most of the heat created from the s/c will be near red line. So unless you are running near red line often a FMIC might not be needed. The s/c would then cool slightly as the rpm's drop because the outside air is much cooler and less compressed when the RPM's are low.

Food for thought.

As for the original post. I think if you want the most power for your buck, and you want to 'hang with the big boys', the S/C is the wrong way to go about it. Even if you did make it to the rank you want, the cost will be higher then with a turbo. Like another has already said, be happy with what you got and stop comparing speeds/hp numbers. Just have fun.

There are two ways to get more boost from a supercharger. Replace the pulley on the SC itself (tamper proof) or replace the crank pulley with an overdrive unit (not tamper proof)
Most NST kits (MR2, Levin, etc) used for supercharged cars have overdrive crank pulleys which will cause the SC to spin faster as a result. If this is the case for the tC then you have nothing to worry about. leave the tamper proof cap on and enjoy :)

Have the engine bored to a 5.0.

Kidding. This is a tough one... Can the supercharger be tuned for more performance?

Anything can be tuned for more performance, it just depends on what you are willing to sacrifice and how much you have to spend. For example you probably could get someone to grind you a cam that would maximize the strengths of the supercharger however you would loose some road civility and a wad of cash for a special cam. You could have a stand alone fuel management system put in to help max power, but it costs a lot of money and you would void all sorts of warranties. There is a saying that has been around a long time "Your car can make as much power as your wallet will allow!" Trust me anything can be done, it's all about what you are willing to give up and how much you are willing to pay.

Tamper proof cap + heatgun = Tamper non-proof cap.

I saw somebody mention Unichip... I tried it on my SC'd Matrix - drove a rental for a month, went through 3 kits, countless hours on the dyno - all for nothing. Sent the kit back, had to pay half of the rental bill. On the other hand - I've heard stories (not many though) of people having some success with the Unichip on SC'd 1ZZ cars (matrix, vibe, rolla). Matrix SC has a piggyback ECU vs. reflash that tC is getting, so it might be even tougher with the tC.

Lemme check with a friend who had a centrifuigal super caharger on his tiburon he knows how to boost it up and how to tune it
