2005/2006 Quandary
About 2 weeks ago I went to the dealer and dealt with a super nice woman. I ended up ordering a 2006 Camo Xb. I just received a voicemail from the dealer. The woman is no longer working there and the man that called is now taking over the "deal". The message was something like: He has not heard when my car was coming in, but he does happen to have a Black 2005 with about 2000 miles on it. He was wondering if I might be interested in that so I could not only get my car sooner, but he could help me save some money.
WTF? I really, really liked the woman I worked with and this guy seems like one of those flashy, pushy, typical used car salesmen. Do you think he would get the commision if I switched vehicles or will he get it anyways? I have already put down a deposit and have been approved for the loan through the woman.
I really hate not having a vehicle. I live in the suburbs and have to have my friends drive me around (my car died). However, I was really set on having a brand new car for the first time with little/no mileage on it. My other car was black and I have always wanted a green (or greenish) car. But, I hate waiting!!!
I do not know what to do :? and I need to call him back tomorrow.
Sooooo...what would the pros/cons be for each, in your opinion...

When all is said and done, make yourself happy! And pay what you want to pay. Would the (apr) terms of the loan change if you got the Black one? How's the warranty? Was it a test drive vehicle? Ultimately, you have to drive this car every day. If you want green that bad could you handle looking at the Black one without saying to yourself , "I really wanted the green one"? Good luck, and listen to yourself.
I have not called him back yet. I am 98% sure it was the test drive vehicle being that it was the only manual that was there. That was also one of my concerns, owning a test driven vehicle. Don't people tned to beat up on them or is that just me??
I am really stupid when it comes to cars, so I would not even have thought to ask about the APR or warranty. Thanks!

I have the demo one from my dealership and I haven't noticed anything wrong with it. If there was, the fact that its still under warranty is comfort enough for me. Mine had 1,345 miles on it, there was nothing wrong with the car, actually mine seems better then I've heard some people say about theirs...i.e. back door ratteling, engine noise, etc., I can't say that I have these annoyances. But I agree with MikeC listen to yourself, and what you really want. At the same time look at the options and what might be your best bet financially if that is something your considering. Take everything your looking for into account, then make a sound decision. But I can say a demo car is not necessairly a bad thing, mine also had mods already done to it that I didn't have to worry about getting myslef, or spend more time waiting on my car because I wanted them. I'm completely satisfied. I was able to finance my car for less since the price was discounted. Had I waited months to get one and had upgrades on it, I would not only have wasted alot of driving time, but money in financing too since the mods with a brand spanking new car would have cost more than mine. With only 1,345 miles, it was still practically new.
Well, as far as "beating them up" that usually refers to vehicles with noticable amounts of power. My concern would be that there is a break in period for new, or rebuilt engines, and chances are that this vehicle was not driven easily as it should have been. I've not taken many test drives, but the ones I have taken have always lead me to slam the throttle to the floor. Someone might tell you otherwise (God knows that the dealer will), but for my money I would feel much better about making payments on a brand new vehicle. The only benefits I can see are A) The car is there now. And B) It is cheaper. My concerns greatly outweigh the benefits though. Warrenty, driving history, and just plain peace of mind would solidify my desicion. But I am not you, nor do I know your financial situation. I am still waiting on my Black Xb which is floating over from Japan as we speak. So you could say I am biased.
I was offered the "demo car" at a reduced price also. After seeing how they drove it on the test drive I turned it down immediatly, the salesman was spinning tires out of the dealership and driving it like he stole it. people might not do it on test drives but dealers sure do when no ones around
IMO, wait and get the car you wanted. If you buy the demo and have problems with it, you'll be second-guessing yourself as long as you own the car.
If you have questions about working with this new salesman, contact the manager of the dealership. Tell him/her that you just want to make sure that the transfer of your deal to the new salesman isn't causing a holdup in delivery of your car, and while you're at it ask if you can get a reliable ETA on its arrival.
Who gets the commission is really not your problem. If the original saleswoman is staying in the business and just went to another dealership, they have protocols for handling deals that are in the air. And you'll probably get a postcard from her eventually inviting you to do business with her at her new job. I've gotten many of those over the years.

rdclark made a good point. The dealership has their own system for handling sales commissions. It's really not something the customer should be concerned about. BUT, what you should be concerned about is that you purchase the car from someone you feel comfortable with. The previous salesperson took the time to build a relationship with you and to earn your trust by being professional and informed. You should accept no less from your "new" salesperson. If you have the time, visit the store and meet this person, talk to him and let him know what your previous salesperson as-a-representative-of-that-Scion-dealership promised you and what your expectations are. Though the original salesperson isn't there, any committments made still need to be honored by the dealership.
If you like your new salesperson, great. If you don't you can call the sales manager and ask to work with a new person. You don't have to give a reason why. It may be that you'd feel more comfortable working with a woman, if that 's the way you feel don't apologize, just let them know what you would like to have happen.
Most Scion customers develop a great relationship with their salesperson. This is the person who will be calling to follow-up with your purchase experience, or to invite you to any upcoming Scion Owner Events. If you want to purchase accessories later or schedule service this is who should be your contact person. Make sure it's someone with whom you WANT to maintain a professional relationship.
Okay, sorry for the long post, btw I bought a "demo" car too, it had 1000 miles on it, and I adore it! But it was exactly what I wanted, no compromise. A year from now it won't matter that you waited six weeks for your car to arrive, but if every time you look at the car you remember that you got your SECOND choice instead of your FIRST choice...
