Default xA Stereo jumps up one track or by .2Mhz when cold ???

I saw that Geotpf listed this as a symptom in the long running "What I don't like about my xA" thread. Anyways, I have the EXACT same problem with my '06 xA. When it's colder, my radio station or my CD/MP3 will skip upwards either .2Mhz or by one track within 10-30 seconds of starting the car.

Does anyone else have this problem (feature)? I thought it would be the steering wheel, but now I'm thinking it's in the head unit. The steering wheel can jump tracks, but cannot change stations by .2Mhz.

I'm asking here because the dealer needs me to leave the car for a couple of days, and that would put me back into a rental car situation, which would cost me money (to get something fixed that should be under warranty!).

Thanks!

Forget leaving the car. they can swap out your head unit in less than 5 minutes. Tell them to put in a different unit and if it happens again then leave the car. More than likely it's just the deck. Your seeing what 40 degree lows right now? If it's happening on a delay it's something electrical. If you were close I would just let you use mine to see. (You can swap the deck with anyone so if anyone you know locally has a deck try a swap for a few days. But the dealer shouldn't have a problem swapping the units, is this the 6 disk?

Thanks EExA -

The head unit is a standard 1-disc unit. The dealer is pretty sticky about not doing anything for a problem they can't easily replicate. I may wait until the days become really cold, so I can leave my car for 30 minutes to "really cool off" . Hopefully they'll be able to repeat the problem then!

I have the same problem. I called the local dealer and he asked me to bring it over for the day. I told him it was not doing it consistantly and they could look at it for a day but that's all they had and I would need a new unit wheather they could duplicate it or not. He said OK. I too am going to wait until it gets colder and when i take it i will leave the radio off so no internal components will heat up.

Good idea flyerI! Didn't think about leaving the radio off. Following the same lines, it might be good to leave the heat off too, providing the ride isn't too far!

I get the same symptoms with my 06 xA. Except I wouldn't consider it to be that cold here in Hawaii. Although just for the record it has only happened to me in the mornings going to work.

Just talked to the local dealer again. I mentioned that I have now seen this on ScionLife and asked if he had seen this problem yet. He suggested that if others take this complaint to their dealer and have them call Toyota with the problem it may start the ball rolling so that others aren't asked to bring their cars for several days. I will get mine by there in a couple of days.

Hmm, in my STi the volume changes sometimes, but I can't fiure out what causes it? I know it's unrelated cars, but it's still a strange problem.

Mine is Salsa Red. :p

The problem is *very* inconsistant, and only happens within the first minute or two of driving after the car was parked over night. It's probably happened to me less than ten times so far.

I don't know about your warranty, and what your dealer does when they say they have to keep your Scion overnight or more, but my Scion warranty says the following:
If for some reason your ride doesn’t go, and your Scion
must be kept overnight for warranty-covered repairs, you
are eligible for transportation assistance from Scion. The
Transportation Assistance Policy applies if your car must be
kept overnight for any of the following reasons:
› The warranty repairs take more than one day to complete.
› The warrantable condition requires extensive diagnosis.
› The parts needed for the warranty repairs are not readily
available and your car is inoperative or unsafe to drive.
The policy does not apply when the warranty repairs can be
completed in one day but the car must be kept overnight due
to dealer or owner scheduling conflicts.
(For my dealer it means I'm driving a year old Corolla for a day of so, free...)
