Just wanted to see if anyone else is having this weird thing happen to them when turning up the volume on a stock 06 headunit. Its just a regular HU not the Ipod or 6-disc. Whenever I turn the volume up it changes the radio station to the next one above it, example: 104.7 turn volume up it goes to 104.9. It does not happen all the time only sporatically. I'm going to be changing the HU soon anyway, just wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing this also.
As much as I give them credit for actually using a decent sounding stock system... it is a Pioneer. I have experience with more Pioneer audio devices than I can count on my hands and they ALL ended up screwing up early in life. Mine is already getting touchy about the discs I use (as is the case with everything they have made in the last 6 -7 years). I also know an audio dealer who is dropping them from thier catalog due to so many issues with their stuff. I will be keeping mine for a while since I have other things I want to focus on, and since it does sound decent. That is why I took the time to make it all blue to match the gauges and console... but I expect it to start failing more seriously within the next year given what I have experienced. It is a shame too.. they used to produce much higher quality devices....
Man, I knew it wasn't just me that was having this issue. It's not really too big of a deal to me; I don't listen to the radio ever. But sometimes, when I listen to MP3 CDs, the track either starts over or skips to the next one.
I'm looking to upgrade the HU in the coming year anyway, so I think I can hold out in the long run.

Yeah.. I thought it was just me. I get the tunning thing when I'm listening to the radio sometimes and the track restart when playing cds.. Has anybody noticed an increase in the volume when accelerating? Has anybody had the unit replaced?
I thought I was crazy... Yes (sometimes) when turning up the volume the station changes. I think it has changed without me touching it before too.
I always blew it off thinking I was doing something wrong.

Chaulk another one up! My 06 has done this about a half a dozen times. It usually happens when I'm driving and not really looking at the radio. So I thought maybe I was hitting another button. Glad to see this post.
My 2006 tC does this too. So far, it has only happened in the morning and only on 1 radio station (though I only listen to 1 radio station in the morning). I drive with the cover down and use the wheel controls to change between pre-selected stations. It changes from 107.7 to 107.9 (always up one notch), and I'm POSITIVE I'm not pushing any buttons. 107.7 is my number 3, but 107.9 isn't a station I've selected, but it always goes there.
I wonder how widespread this is to get some help here. It's obviously a problem that's going to be hard to demonstrate to the dealer.

I am pretty happy with the stock system (for now only going to upgrade most of the speakers) but want to maintain the HU as new as possible. I figure the cd player will die first due to the moving parts, so I want to stop using it ASAP.
Slainte!
Similar behavior to this has been brought up is at least three threads here on ScionLife, and here is a link to another of them.
It appears that this may be more common than one would think, since most people probably don't think it's their Pioneer head unit changing in error, but something they did to cause it.
Has anyone actually gotten a dealer or Scion to respond to this?

Just took delivery of my '06 BOP Saturday. They had one on the lot that had no options and I added a few things during the purchase. It had no radio either and they installed that yesterday. Today I was driving to and from lunch and in the 5 min trip each way, it bumped up one (94.5 to 94.9 each time). I'll speak with my dealer in the next week or so as I am still waiting on them to get the spoiler, Sirius, and fog lights in so they can be installed. I also noticed last night that the rear speakers aren't working. Either disconnected/never connected, not installed by some fluke, or they don't work (either due to bad deck, bad wire, or bad speakers). Hopefully I'll have something to report back in the next week or so on the phantom tuning issue.
It's a brand new Toyota/Scion dealership that opened in December, so they have a relatively light load and the service advisor that I worked with yesterday was very good and took the time to talk to me about the car and the fact that the options they showed as in stock from Toyota were then listed as backordered when their delivery truck came yesterday. Best service experience I have had from any dealership in years.

I cant really say that I reccomend any changer. I have never seen one that didnt have some issues, or that did not wear out sooner than a single disk unit. But, I have not really kept up with them either. A changer has more intricate moving parts, hence, more points of failure than a normal player. Even the home units end up having issues sooner or later. With MP3 players being so common now I dont worry about it. I can fit 140 songs on a disc, which is more than enough. Granted, it would be nice to have 6 of those loaded at once, but I can buy an ipod ready unit and not care either
But out of the pioneer issues I have seen, only one was a changer. The rest were all singe disc units, so it is not just their changers. The CD drive just started failing on all of them.
