Default Halo Fog Light Grille Advance Warning! (install coming soon)

Coming soon. just got the grille, and very haphazard put it on the box, i will post pics and finish the write up when i have time. until then i wanted to warn people if they planned on buying the front grille with the two foglights, it is a very difficult install! it is not just plug and play. you have to either vut your box, or the light fixtures (which is what i did) inorder to get everything to fit snuggly. after that it is a basic (easy) wiring job. Write up coming soon. I need more time in my life!

Cant wait to see the pics. Does the wire harness for the stock fog lights not work for these, or is it that you also have stock fogs?

well, i won't be able to make the write up til sometime sunday (for me saturday for the rest of the world)

Stock harness doesn't work becasue of where it is. Plus i am planning on getting the real foglights also. but..these have the LED lights from the Halo, and H7 lights inside, so they need extra wires. i am working on running these to the Fuse box, so if you leave the lights on they won't drain the battery. right now i have it on a switch connected to the battery. Don't want to get oo into it, but the writeup will be sometime this weekend.

busy busy busy next coupla days.

Yo WeeMan,

Is dat you I saw the other day? I saw a BOP xb w/ those Halo fog grill and a dude w/ blond hair drivin it at Harmon. If dats you, gotta say those grill look sweet. Can't wait to see da write up.

I've seen these grill in person before and did notice that the housing for the fogs does interfere parts with the headlamp assembly. I would splice into the "parking lights" for the halo. As for the fog, there are 2 options.

You can get the factory fog switch and relay (the wiring for the fog "bumper") this wiring system comes preinstalled in all Scion xB/xA. The wiring switch to the factory if I remember is located in the lower dash under the ashtray, tucked w/ a plastic snap. Look for a harness (I think it's white) that is looks like is connected to nothing. This harness goes to the factory fog switch. The location for the relay is in the fuse box; which needs to be plug in. Switch and relay can be purchase at your local Toyota?Scion dealer. Also you need to connect the wires to the socket, which is found on the drivers side scuf plate. Wiring the factory fog harness (in the bumper) to the halo fog (or aftermarket fog) however might need some fabrication.
To install the factory fog, which most info I got from is in this web site Overboost.com
http://overboost.com/print.asp?id=1098

2nd is to do a complete seperate wiring system (which you did most likely) included fuse, togle switch, and alot of wires........well maybe not that much wires.

Why not just use some t-taps and tap into the headlight harness wires for power to the fogs and leds? It will look much cleaner than having wires run all over the place. Plus, this way they will only come on with the low beams (or high beams if thats what you prefer). Ground and power will be right there.

Just a suggestion.

Look at where each headlight is in the engine bay. You will see a big harness there. Use a test light to find out which wires go to what and just tap into them with these:

Those taps do come in handy. I used them when I installed my aftermarket HU. The harness from the Sony unit was spliced/connected to the harness adapter using these taps I bought at NAPA for under 2 bucks.

I rather tap the Halo to the side markers "parking lights" (NOT THE BLINKER LIGHTs) rather than to the headlight, besides the amps for the headlight might burn up the halos. Also you might burn up the fuse if you hook up the fogs to the headlamp, if I'm not mistaking. I tried that in another car, try to short cut the fogs by tapping it to the headlights only to find myself replacing the fuse every now and then. And if your using those hyper white/blue H4 and the fogs at the same time watchout!!! The bulbs pull out more watts than your regular H4 bulbs.

After all what good with the halo if you can't see them with the fog light on? With fhe fog off and the halo on, it nakes a big difference in looks.

if you tap into the headlights, you will get dimmer lights allaround, and the fog halos that came with the grille i exchanged out for 100 watt h7's. The 100 watters would ahve burned right through the stock wiring, and turned the headlights into DULL yellow blur.

I needed to run thicker wiring, to help keep the lights powered and keep my hood from catching fire. but taps do make a little bit nicer install. i have the wires uncovered for the photos i will be uploading tomorrow, but i have covered all wires with a blue hosing to keep the engine bay looking nice, and to hide the wires. will take all photos and write up tomorrow when it is sunny!

also the halos are small LED lights that you don't even see when the fog lights are on. so you have to run the two seperately, possibly parking lights, and headlights would have worked, but i opted for a seperate switch because i like to turn them on without my headlights on and cruise the parking lot looking cool in a shoe box
