I might have plans to rebuild the stock motor for alot more power, but i need to know what breaks frist on most engines..... Clutch? Crank? Drive gears?


With a little more research, i might be able to do a 1.7L 200HP motor..... but i still have a few things to look at first.

The clutch will wear out faster, but besides that the first sign of trouble is usually a leaking head gasket.

I would say yuor warranty

too much power and your rods will fail as well

rebuild the bottom end with some thing lot stronger

or run less boost

I wouldnt worry about the rods. They are forged from the factory. Everyone worries about the wrist pin location, but thats not going to change even with different rods. So again, dont worry about them. I was running 10 psi daily for about three months with NO problems whatsoever with the head gasket or anything. A couple others are running more with chargers and have had NO problems. As long as you dont get boost happy it will be fine. Just remember, its not a 2JZ where you can run 20 psi without a problem....

But if you are going to run 5-10psi, the motor will be fine.

Just remember this too, everyone on here is full of opinions. Listen to the ones that have actually gone forced induction (me, DGhotlava, simplyscion, matchbox) for the correct answers... Everyone is quick to say the motor cant handle any boost. Those are the ones you DONT want to listen to. We have done it, and it holds....

i've been boosted for well over a year. only thing to go was the clutch.
matchbox is boosted for well over a year too. again, only the clutch.

the axles and CV's are not that strong. so don't drop the clutch at 6,000rpm. if you know how to drive, they will be fine.

well - through a few short words - I think stage0 is the way Im going to go but im not sure when. My main concern is that you cant piggyback the ecu so I deff dont see that being a good thing. I wish zpi would post more about what their future plans will be so the buyer knows when to expect changes that he/she might be looking foward to.

I talked to ZPI the other day and they said you can get the E-manage for the stage 0. So that may be the way you want to go. Its to bad they don't just add it to there kit. I'm considering which kit to buy but I'm out in Iraq so I would have to wait until January to put it on.

IMO there isnt one particular part that gives out first unless you didn't properly prepare the car for boost. However with that said when I had a 89 turbo supra the headgasket was the first to go...but with that car the headgaskets were a big issue.

The stage0 should already come with it because you dont want to use the stock setup. I am also waiting for the cast manifold. I am interested in what exhaust setup I want to get and if I should wait on my spipe or get it when I get the exhaust. If anybody knows of a quiet setup that will be good for a turbo (down the lie) - pm me and ill talk about it.
