Default Need help finding a floor jack for XB - front too low

I am looking for tips for changing the oil in the driveway.

I have a pair of jack stands. My plan was to purchase a floor jack – jack up the XB
on the cross member in the front and set it on jack stands (with pads) for oil changes
and tire rotation .

I purchased a nice floor jack at Sears But when its under the front cross member the
xb is so low I cant move the jack handle!!!! I had to return the jack for a refund.
Going in from the side did not help either – same problem.

Using the jack that comes with it – the jack is in the side notch and I cant put the
jack stand in the right spot. Besides I have to hack up each side and it’s a pain.

Any suggestions? I ruled out a bottle jack – I really don’t want to be under the car
when my life depends on a rubber O ring in a jack.

I was considering ramps but again I feel the front is so low I would not be able to get
it on standard ramps. Maybe I am wrong about the ramps? Real experience is
appreciated?

Well, there is this company that has these ramps called rhino ramps, they are composit and they do work with a stock suspension up front and out back. but i have a craftsman floor jack and it works fine, you just cant do a full pump, they have to be short ones. But, those ramps work great. Check wal-mart for those ramps though, they work fine.

Found a link for ya.

Thanks! Will check out the ramps! Great tip. What model jack do you have. Sears has several Craftsman floor jacks. I guess if you know the weight capacity I can match it with a current model. Thanks again!

Even if you use a bottle jack to raise it, you should still use jackstands...

How low is your car? I've got a two inch drop and lower sideskirts and my $15 Walmart jack works OK. Try using a block of wood between the jack and frame or cut a 2x8 at an angle and drive up onto it first.

I saw a little ramp made for this at Pep Boys. It even had a picture of an xB on the package!!! But it was basically the same thing as the cut 2x8

My XB is stock. I went for the delux racing jack - aluminum body. Nice jack i just cant work the arm when its under the xb the handle is hitting the plastic ferring in the front so I cant make it go up and down to pump - same when I try to come in from the side.

2x4's. Seriously. Lay them down and pull the car onto them. That should give you the clearance you need. Low profile ramps are good too.

dude Rhino Ramps r the best...even if ur car is lowered it wont hurt the bumber at all, just scrapes the bottom but who cares. they are sturdy and durable...no need for floor jacks if u got these......AND if u get 2 pairs of em.. u can roll ur car up on all 4 of them and perfect height to get underneath to install like say Underbody Neons...
