View Full Version : Hit 130 MPH today...
Poison 11-13-2005, 11:36 PM So I went to the outskirts of town which was less then a mile drive from my house :) Anyway once I found the perfect road I gunned it till I hit 130, the car picked up pretty nice and smooth. I had quite a close encounter since I was driving on a 2 way street, a truck driving towards my direction caused my car to sway to the right by a lot. To be honest I was scared ____ less afterwards, my arms became stiff and I could not let go of the wheel lol. I've never gone so fast in my life before, last time I ever do something that stupid.Say have you guys noticed how sensitive the car gets once you hit a 100+? Is this normal for stock cars or cars in general?
VVTIGUY 11-13-2005, 11:41 PM I would say that it is pretty normal due to the fact that at higher speeds it is harder to control the car. Also if this is your first encounter with 100+ MPH you get a little jitty and nervous and it seems a lot more sensitive then what it really is. Don't worry however the more times you drive over 100 the more confident you get. (this is not always a good thing) lol
Serialk1llr 11-13-2005, 11:45 PM  :nope:

Straight up man, next time I'll do it on a more even road, crap load of pot holes, i found 2 scratches on my car from driving out there :(
StatuSCheckA 11-13-2005, 11:48 PM What RPM are you at when you go 130?!?
In Germany in the rental car, I went 190 KMH, thats about 125MPH, i think.
Anyway, it didnt seem so fast because EVERYONE drives at least 150 KMH :D
Poison 11-13-2005, 11:48 PM  :nope:
Whats that suppose to mean? Lol .....*cough* hypocrite*Cough* lol

To be honest I don't remember lol, my attention was on the road lol. But above 5 for sure, because the rpm meter steadly increased.
VVTIGUY 11-13-2005, 11:58 PM yeah also the wider the road the better for little mistakes (when I say little i mean like you take your eyes off the road for a sec, which is a big no-no at those speeds) and you don't have to worry about cars coming right at you
Poison 11-14-2005, 12:00 AM My brothers friend who drives a BSP tC is going to hook up my ECU chip to a computer and reprogram it so that it will allow me to reach higher speeds and Revs?...or at least some thing to that manner.

The smallest of bumps caused the car to sway either left or right drastically pretty fudging scary man lol. But lucly the road was deserted besides that damn truck, hell the outskirts of town are known for being a popular place for speeders. I saw a blue Nissan 350z so I assume he was testing his vehicle out aswell :)
VVTIGUY 11-14-2005, 12:04 AM yeah it sould also help control engine functions such as spark timing, fuel/ air ratio, etc.
Poison 11-14-2005, 12:06 AM yeah it sould also help control engine functions such as spark timing, fuel/ air ratio, etc.
Thats cool, it costed him 400 plus for the Chip? Program? w/e the hell it is lol. It will be my first true "performance" mod.
VVTIGUY 11-14-2005, 12:06 AM lol I beat the 350 was too. Do you have a body kit on your car or were the pot holes just so deep that it scratched the stock bumper?
VVTIGUY 11-14-2005, 12:08 AM $400 is not too, too bad for an ECU esp. a high performance one
Poison 11-14-2005, 12:09 AM lol I beat the 350 was too. Do you have a body kit on your car or were the pot holes just so deep that it scratched the stock bumper?
No my car is completely stock other thne a few Electrical mods (Lights and what not). Well the road was pretty crappy so yeah it must have been from a pot hole, but its hardly noticable. I'll be getting the AIT Wide body kit so I'm not tripping over it.
VVTIGUY 11-14-2005, 12:10 AM besides the ECU what all do you have planned for your car to help you achieve those speeds at a faster rate?
ie turbo, supercharger, headers intake
VVTIGUY 11-14-2005, 12:13 AM that kit will be a cool mod for the car
Poison 11-14-2005, 12:13 AM besides the ECU what all do you have planned for your car to help you achieve those speeds at a faster rate?

Well i'm putting off performance mods, I want to work on looks first :)
VVTIGUY 11-14-2005, 12:14 AM ic ic
cool
Poison 11-14-2005, 12:18 AM hmm...nothing but peeps with Flint Micas responded haha...
datrickster24 11-14-2005, 12:32 AM :)... I also got scared when I first hit 130mph ...havent done it since.. due to i dont wanna f*** up my new rims!
dredge38 11-14-2005, 12:32 AM ive heard we couldnt reprogram are chips at least in the xb but both cars have vvti just wondering if it is posiible or not? Ive been 130 with my parents 740il and it was like nothing for that car i felt like i was going 80 but ya i was young and stupid and probably wont ever do that again
davedavetC 11-14-2005, 12:45 AM fastest ive gone in my tC was between 125-130 also. i did it on the highway at 1:30 in the morning comin home from providence. not a singe car on the highway (which was odd might i add) so i let it rip.
(also i wanted to post to add to the amount of FM owners responding lol)
Darkspyte 11-14-2005, 12:52 AM i used to have an srt-4 with a few mods with something like 260hp. and 290ft.lb. and i got it going about 153 on the highway racing a new bimmer 330i scaring as hell especially when your in traffic.

I remember in drivers ed they would show us videos of car accident scenes were the driver split his skull open and all around his head are pieces of his brain lol...I was like damn!!!
unlimited77 11-14-2005, 04:19 AM OK..am i a retard or does the tc even do 130?
I am thinking not...since tc does only 127...and some of these comments are jokes..???
i am guessing?

I could have sworn I saw the speedometer hit 130...
lbmdt 11-14-2005, 06:11 AM governor is by determined by the states.
And its generally 125-127.
Try to go 182.
Now thats fast.
I wouldn't recommend you really trying out your car unless you goto a track. If you live on the coast around D.C. I recommend MIR (Maryland International Raceway). They also have a Nos refill tank.
tekniq 11-14-2005, 08:01 AM I remember being smarter when I was younger too! Somehow this seems like a bad idea now. Damn this downward spiral of my intelligence!
MotoMedic 11-14-2005, 08:21 AM remember, the speedometer is not absolute... error increases with speed.
...it might read 130 gage, but you'll actually be doing a few MPH less.
you need to find a cop who's cool & will clock you for fun. i live in south louisiana so it's not a problem... this might be more difficult in other areas!
"Louisiana- 49th is everything except reckless fun!"
ricexizxgood 11-14-2005, 04:48 PM i've read about someone going over the governor before
it was somewhere in the forums.
I dont think a cop will ever do that in California haha
wickwickitywak 11-14-2005, 04:57 PM remember, the speedometer is not absolute... error increases with speed.

Im from south Louisiana too, one of my friends dad is a Baton Rouge sheriff. He clocked me in my moms G35, 153 mph. I want to get him to do my tC.
mandos 11-14-2005, 06:22 PM tC = limited at 127. The whole excited driving really fast the first time and not really staring at the speedo will make ya think it's higher...the first time I did it I coulda sworn I hit 135. I've done it a few times and can verify that the engine stops going the faster at 127 :)
VVTIGUY 11-14-2005, 10:27 PM ^^^^^ agreed
It is the whole adrenaline rush that gets you thinking you see something you really aren't
it's a fun bouncing effect at 127, I would agree that it looks close to 130, but since death and I are really good friends I was able to look close  . sadly didn't hit it. but you can take out the limiter if you know enough. so I need to find someone who can take it out, I want to red line in 5th just before I burst into flames and destroy a small part of the countryside.
emiller 11-14-2005, 11:15 PM The speedo might say 130 but the car is limited to 127. Speedos always read high and the difference goes up as speed goes up.
lukkytoodye 11-14-2005, 11:16 PM now thats pleseant. Right while im eating too!!!
VVTIGUY 11-14-2005, 11:18 PM not sure but that seems like a real bad idea do to the fact that the goveners are there for a reason. but hey got to to what ya got to do. Have Fun! LOL
What I can't stand is, if the governer is set at 127mph, wy do they istall a speedo that says 140? is pointless I tell you, I tried that one time as well and it looked like to me it cut off at 127mph.
VVTIGUY 11-15-2005, 02:05 AM maybe for looks, maybe the car has the potential, the main reason it is set at 127 is obviously safety. However there are ECUs you can get that will turn off that damn governer.
tcBlue 11-15-2005, 02:15 AM Please don't do that again on public road......
Magnus213 11-15-2005, 02:30 AM I can't think of anywhere around here where I could hit 127 without ending up smeared across four miles of pavement.
Poison 11-15-2005, 02:44 AM Please don't do that again on public road......
Lol....believe me their are TONS of stretches of deserted roads here in Los Banos, I'll do it again once I start puting performance mods into the car and that wont be for a while. :)
ScionRulz23 11-15-2005, 06:36 PM You should be proud of yourself for being a complete moron!
Maybe next time you'll crash into an innocent family minding their own business and kill someone. You're scum... :loser:
tc_wannabe 11-15-2005, 07:42 PM ^^^ what he said.
BIGRKtC 11-15-2005, 08:23 PM I'm glad I read this whole thread. It went on way too long with out someone bringing up the government limiter. Its 127 and anyone that's ever done it knows that the speedo reads 127 (halfway between 125 & 130) not 130. It will not go faster. Not sayin that everyone is BSing, just agreeing with most that said its your mind playing tricks due to the adrenaline rush. What I remember about my tC is that I still had room left on the RPM meter but could not pass 127. I think this means the Stock tC should have the capacity for at least 135. Its pretty aero dynamic looking. When I did it, it felt like nothing 'till about 115. Then it seemed like a life time to get to 125 and 127. I chickened out the first 3 times I tried it. Really gets your heart pumping. Oh yeah, don't ever try this, its really stupid, yada yada yada.
Poison 11-15-2005, 10:50 PM You should be proud of yourself for being a complete moron!

Okay next time i'll aim my car to the nearest family van...idiot.
emiller 11-15-2005, 11:24 PM Even without the governer it wont go much faster. 135 maybe.
lilman4210 11-15-2005, 11:35 PM It is kinda funny how you went 130mph considering that the governor kicks in right around 120mph (I know from experience)
Lucky4tC 11-16-2005, 12:14 AM The gov. kicks in at 127mph, there is no way around it unless you reprogram your ECU. You cannot just add a chip to take away your speed limiter, oh and a BMW 330i is not a fast car so your SRT-4 should have pulled far away.
Be careful dude, we have all seen so many accident posts on here! Good luck and drive safe!

You can't win, man. There's always the people who think you're nuts, then the others who don't really mind. Next time you might as well just lie and say you were on a track to avoid the whole deal, I know I will.

I tend to stick to neighborhoods, and school arias…. or at least that’s obviously what most people here think :blah:, and that there is never a clear open road at 2 am :ponder: . But then again their mommy’s probably don’t let them out that late….
Skunk 11-21-2005, 11:43 PM I want to start by saying that driving that fast anywhere is dangerous. Just because you're on a deserted road doesn't mean that something won't go wrong. An animal could run out in front of you, you could have a blowout, you could simply overcorrect and lose control of the car, etc. And at speeds over 100mph any one of those things has the serious potential to end your life. And for what? Because you wanted a few seconds of adreneline?
I know many of you are young and naive and think "That can't happen to me" but I assure you it can and will if you keep driving the car that way. Especially if you're racing someone else. They could have a blowout and lose control of their car and take both of you out.
That being said:
125 in my 95 Saturn SL2
150 in my 300zx
185 in my friend's Oldsmobile Toronado
105 in my 05 WRX, I don't really like to push it that high on the streets anymore
Save it for the track, it could save your life.

W/e you say hypocrite
xAwahl 11-22-2005, 05:44 PM why do companys make their cars go even 127mph? They know that some people are going to try and push the limit. Oh yeah and ive drivin a lot faster than 130 mph...the GS limited out at 155. I had it up there once on a backroad in the middle of nowhere. If your safe doing it and realize the risk then im all for ya, just be safe and dont do it with others around who dont know your doing it
Skunk 11-22-2005, 11:04 PM W/e you say hypocrite
:nope:
Like I said, I don't push it that hard anymore.
But when I did, those were my highest speeds. All of them were on the Gandy bridge in Tampa (straight and 7 miles long) at 2am with no traffic except the Toronado which was on the Sunshine Skyway (even bigger bridge). A blowout was still possible in all of those cases, but I eliminated the possibility of animals, cops, unseen traffic, pedestrians, just losing control, etc.
But in favor of my argument, thats another thing. If a cop clocks you over 120, chances are you will not pass Go or collect $200...
chunk13 03-20-2006, 09:43 PM ha, i dont mind drivin fast and it doenst scare me. what does are the fines and penalties and possible problems from goin too fast. A friend of mine got arrested for doing 155 in 55 in his 3000GT VR-4. He ended up losing his license for 3 years and tons of fines. He also melted his Nitto 555 tires and destoyed the plastic in the wheel wells.
neuromonic 03-22-2006, 01:24 AM How is this thread not locked?
captainlaziness 03-22-2006, 01:50 AM Ok, I'm not real sure why I've read all of this. However, it brings a question to mind. Most of know that the ECU cuts fuel at 127 MPH. My question is how does the ECU get the speed information? Does it read speed at the wheel?

it gets the information from what gear its in, and what RPM the gear is in. There is only 1mph the car could be in while in 4th gear at 4900 RPMS.

umm, what mods do u have that allow you to hit 130?? did u somehow disable the speed limiter? CUz its set at 127...and i have bounced off it @127 a few times on 95/495. The engine just stops accelerating at 127 (close to 130, but not quite! :silly: )
I've gone 160 with my boy in his Evo that runs 12.8 1/4 mile..his supra runs 9's. been in that too. almost crapped myself
io333 03-22-2006, 05:33 AM Can someone please explain to me how a Toranado can go that fast? I drove one a long long time ago, and I doubt that thing could have gone 120.
Nick06tC 03-22-2006, 06:15 AM I read through this briefly. Its amazing how, unless you do it all the time, people think 130 is scary. I lived in europe for the past 5 years and for the most part of it owned a porsche. I also had a merceds 190E (failry good size car) and wife has a 2003 Corolla. All of them except the corolla would do 130 MPH easily. If you arent driving just to drive fast most of todays (if not all) cars can cruise at 120+MPH. Even the corrolla that cut out at 113MPH, could do it easily for hours with the wife sitting next to me and children in the car.
Speed is all about how its used. If its used for commuting its just as safe as 65 MPH.
tC9o9 03-22-2006, 06:44 AM WOW....too fast for me, i get scared cuz i think the tC cant handle it. i will only go that fast on a track, dont endager yoursself man. not worth it. plus your only 17, you have a lot to learn, and dont risk your life for something so stupid
atodak 03-22-2006, 11:42 AM blackonblack, Your sig kicks arse!
The_Sciontist 03-22-2006, 04:04 PM Gosh..if you all think 127 is fast and dangerous..you must NEVER have been on an airplane before... 500 mph 30,000 feet up in the air.. If you can do that, you should be able to drive your tc 127.
Nick06tC 03-22-2006, 04:31 PM The tC should be able to handle 127 MPH with cruise set for hours, or until the tank is empty.
I said it before, its not as fast as you think. Its the thrill that makes it scary. Hopefully I will be moving back to germany soon, then I will be able to see how it does. Seeing as my wifes corolla could handle the speeds just fine, I am thinking the tC will be fine. I have seen minivans cruising at those speeds. Its not as fast and unsafe as some make it think.
I wouldnt do it in the states tho, because others dont know how to handle a car going that fast around them.
Skunk 03-22-2006, 04:33 PM Can someone please explain to me how a Toranado can go that fast? I drove one a long long time ago, and I doubt that thing could have gone 120.
Unfortunatly at the time (about 8 years ago) I wasn't very car savvy. Least of all about American muscle. I don't even know what year Toronado it was, though I believe it was a late 60s model. But sufffice it to say, my friend Mitch and his dad would buy old cars, and work the hell out of them. It was a retardedly overbuilt motor (and I imagine transmission, to go that fast). Especially since, if I remember correctly, the car was front-wheel drive.
That was one of the many ridiculously built muscle cars Mitch owned in high school. I've sort of fallen out of touch with him, but I'd like to contact him and ask what all was done to that car now that I know a lot more about engines.

i was innocent civilian :lalala:
Artur 03-28-2006, 09:14 PM Yeah going that fast is a rush. I've gone over 150mph twice in my life. Once was in a rental car when I lived in Europe and the other was in my ZX2 on an empty highway. I got a pic of me going 250kph in Europe and a vid of 150+ on the ZXPoo..er 2.
Anyways, I'm sure its been said(I havent read the whole thread) but its dumb to go that fast :)
