Default Scion TC turbo/supercharger gauges?? Which ones to get?

Since there have been many people buying both turbo and superchargers for their tC’s – what gauges are everybody getting? I am planning for my future s/c mods so I am in the market now for the gauges. Im suprised that scion doesnt offer a pod setup as a dealer option.

I personaly like the autometer gauges! (cobalt and Nexus series to be exact!) You can't buy them directly from their website but they have a few links of places that sell them.

www.autometer.com <-that is there website!

You can also purchase them @ www.creativecustoms.com

Both of these series have every type of gauge you would need available in them! The Cobalt are blue and you can get them in short sweep, full sweep, or some digital. The Nexus series are amazing because you hook them up to a central control box that can record info from the gauges and can be run in a comp. program to compare different runs. They also have different color selections that can be changed by the touch of a button (i.e. the box comes with a remote). they are a little more exspensive because you have to buy the control module for them but they are very cool!

ScionDad...that does look awesome. What three gauges do you have on the pillar? There are so many different models in the blue cobalt series.

I have the boost gauge, oil pressure (electric - no one wants hot oil in a tube in their interior) and oil temp. If I didn't have turbo, I probably would have added electric instead of boost. But if you are or plan on going FI...get boost and it will just show vacuum until then.

I also have the Cobalt AFR (air/fuel/ratio) gauge and EGT (exhaust gas temp) gauge going in another pod custom made by ZPI. These two I just got for tuning the turbo fuel mixture.

Wideband O2 sensor of choice
Boost/Vac gauge
EGT Gauge

These are the most essential

is an EGT gauge needed for S/C applications? I can understand why it is for turbos.

It's not particular to a turbo or SC thing. The EGT gauge provides a warning if something goes wrong in the fuel or timing system. If the EGT gauge sky rockets, you can lift off the throttle and potentially save serious engine damage. It's not really necessary unless emanage or similiar is in your future.

Personaly if you are going to just S/C; not take the interanls, other perf mods to the extreme; then I would just go with a vac/boost, wideband O2, and maybe an oil pressure gauge.

If you are like me and are going to go all out you can get a little of everything. If it serves no other purpose than just looks, if that is what you want; get it!

I have 7 gauge pods in my tC and now need to fill them with gauges. I am doing a show car though so I overkilled on the gauges.

You should monitor EGT's with a WB O2 to determine best torque without EGT's raising and power fallign off. Once you determine EGT and best power, you can now match the same A/F in any other time in the RPM bad easier now

I plan to have the ZPI turbo kit professionally tuned on a dyno.. They have their own wideband gear.. Would you still recommend my own wideband gauge and EGT gauge, or could I stick to a narrowband air/fuel, boost, and oil pressure for basic monitoring?

EGT gauge is a must IMO for major tuning. Monitoring that and seeing a spike can save your engine if something changes in the middle of a run.

A narrow band AFR gauge is pretty much useless because they are all over the scale all the time (0 to 1 volt). You would be hard pressed to see anything out of the ordinary. But your exhaust gas temp spiking is a dead givaway.

Now a wideband 02 sensor (0 to 5v) can be very helpful with EGT, oil pressure and boost.
