View Full Version : i got my recall letter...
B1uEsC1uEs 11-14-2005, 06:53 PM I live in cali cand i have the injen CAI, my tC is getting recalled because of the moonroof and they said they will fix the moonroof. I am just wondering... Will I still have warranty if they see it? so should i remove the intake before going to the dealer to get it fixed?
rolstc 11-14-2005, 07:06 PM lol .... of course they will fix it !
Warranty only voids if they catch the mod you put to defect the issue.
If the hood magically opened on the highway going 65 mph and the bolts happened to unscrew and your intake goes flying and hits your moonroof then yea thats when they will say nope cant fix it.
Stu_Gotti 11-14-2005, 07:21 PM  Good one!
SSM_tC 11-14-2005, 07:28 PM what could more realistically happen is thatthey will note what mods you have on your car and if you happen to come in some time in the future for warranty that COULD berelated to such mods, they will have it noted and could possibly use it to deny that future claim.
all depends on your dealership, of course
Thread 11-14-2005, 08:30 PM Even though I don't own the car anymore I got my recall notice in the mail this weekend. I forwarded it on to the new owners.
WeDriveScions 11-14-2005, 08:32 PM I would want to know why they opened my hood to add an applique to my panel....
They shouldn't give you any crap about warrenty... shouldn't even open your hood for that matter...
TCAV8R 11-14-2005, 09:54 PM What does the recall involve?
I didn't get one yet.
B1uEsC1uEs 11-14-2005, 11:18 PM lol i know this sounds silly but can they call the cops for not having a carb sticker?
lol i know this sounds silly but can they call the cops for not having a carb sticker?
No...don't worry, they would never do that, now if they find a dead body in your trunk, then yes, they will call the cops.
What does the recall involve?
I didn't get one yet.
Yeah, me neither, what's the info?

Yeah, me neither, what's the info?
shattering moonroof in freeway going 65 mph or higher. when a particle hits the wind deflector, it can shatter the moonroof, causing serious enjuries or a fatal accident. most of 04 and 05 tC's ans some 06. if u get a letter then you should go to your dealer to get it fixed for free.

Thanks for the info, I'll keep an eye out for the letter.
insaneintenti0n 11-15-2005, 03:45 PM got my letter. i'll take the car in when i get the oil changed next month. doesn't really affect me though since i can read the manual where it says not to have the roof open when going more than 40/45.

Yeah, I stopped doing that after the first time I took it in, because my roof had a nasty wistle, they fixed it and it hasn't come back. I always see tC owners in the freeway with their roofs open and I bet these are the people that have the most problems and complains with their roofs.
b_griggs1 11-15-2005, 05:43 PM hmmm ive driven 39k miles in my tc and have the sunroof whenever i can. most of my driving is done at 80mph up and down california, no squeeks, whistles or shatters yet..... i guess ill consider myslef lucky

You might as well just ignore the recall sent by toyota since you are so smart. Yeah, all the sunroof problems are because those people aren't as bright as you are.
A$$

are there even any 04 tC's? i thought the first year was 2005.
tuffCookie 11-17-2005, 04:00 PM i also got a recall letter too.
i called to make an appointment and they said it might take up to 2 hours!! what a bunch of bs. it shouldn't take 2 hours to install. i know it doesn't take this long.
i asked why it would take so long for a piece of laminate and they said it took about 2 hours the last couple times they did other tC's. :eyebrow: :eyebrow: :eyebrow:
does anybody else here have something similar in terms of install time?
anyway, as for scanning the letter, i can do it. probably have to wait until the weekend or Monday. or maybe i'll just take pictures....
Friek 11-17-2005, 09:46 PM Is this for all TC's or am did I missing something.
TCAV8R 11-17-2005, 10:25 PM are there even any 04 tC's? i thought the first year was 2005.
First model year is the '05 but it was released mid '04.

thats what i thought (my friend baught his in 04 as an 05) but that wouldnt make it an 04 right?

bluenjsciontc 11-18-2005, 12:08 PM they claim to put a protective laminate kit on mine when i took it for an oil change, rofl it looks the same and there is nothing there lol, :tap: i think they just were looking for a reason why it took them 3 1/2 hours for a stupid oil change lol
bsp-tC 11-18-2005, 10:07 PM Just got my letter yesterday, and it says right in it that "The repair will take approximately one hour. However depending on the Dealer's repair schedule, it may be necessary to make your vehicle available for a longer period of time". I don't mind them having to take longer, as long as they don't mind me hanging around them watching & waiting, or else giving me a car to drive in the interim. I need to have the 10,000 mile work done soon (I'm at 8500 now), so I'll probably ask them to do it then. :tap:
mfbenson 11-18-2005, 10:17 PM got my letter. i'll take the car in when i get the oil changed next month. doesn't really affect me though since i can read the manual where it says not to have the roof open when going more than 40/45.
So if my manual says no such thing I will be part of the recall?
insaneintenti0n 11-19-2005, 06:07 PM 1) if you get a recall letter. You’re part of the recall. Period. Even if the car sits. You’re part of the recall. you can choose not to participate.
2) i think people are going to have to stop quoting my a$$. i did not have the manual in front of me when i wrote what i did. i does not SPELL out for people to not use the moonroof at highway speeds. But it is COMMON SENSE.
Manual states "As driving with the moon roof opened fully will cause wind throbs, we recommend you drive with the moon roof 2" from fully open." Yea, ok so that doesn't flat out say anything about speeds. But it warns you not to do anything that would potentially cause problems.
Sorry for all the sand i put in certain people's panties, but come on now. If you've paid any attention to your car when you're driving you would notice that if you're doing much more than 40mph and the roof is open all the way, it bounces like a MF. And, you know, for some reason that says to me DO SOMETHING TO MAKE IT STOP. (ie. close the roof).
This is what has worked for me:
0-40mph - Fully Open, Closed, Whatever floats your boat
40-80mph - Position 1 open (Front deflector closed)
80+ - I close it... too much extra drag.
I will not open to position 2 or 3 unless I’m going <20mph.
And to TCAV8R, um, you need to learn to read too. I said "I’ll take the car in when I get the oil changed next month.” Does that mean I'll ignore it? NO.
I'm done.
:relief:
More arguments welcome. Though probably will be ignored.
RockBlocker 11-19-2005, 06:22 PM Got my recall letter and laughed.
One - The dealer doesnt have the part to put on right now
Two - I have been getting referrals to use my stuff instead of the factory piece they use. They cant get it to look right and has a dull look to it. Mechanics are not trained to install this product.
Three - They take to long
Four - I did mine from day one. Since it was a prone area for damage, rocks and pitting off the glass.
TCAV8R 11-20-2005, 06:36 AM And to TCAV8R, um, you need to learn to read too.
LOL
Since you will ignore this...
I never said you need to learn to read. You clearly stated you read the manual.
p.s. I don't drive at highway speeds with the roof open either. Thanks for being "done".
