Default first gear questions

I have a manual o6 silver tc and i have a somewhat idiot question...

I know if manual cars your first gear is to just get you going but with my car it seems as though my first gear doesnt get me ANYWHERE!!

my boyfriend has a 92 prelude and his first gear at least gets him places but my first gear doesnt do anything except like 0-5 mph. I dont know if that's standard for manual cars and if my bf's car is just stronger or something ...

im sorry for the long post but im just confused and im hoping there's nothing wrong with my car kuz its brand new!!

5mph? do you have your parking brake on? it's ok to let it rev up a little...the top speed in first is like 30mph. try having him drive it..

first isn't hard to drive in. sure, it's a little touchy, but once you get used to it, it's fine.

First gear on the tC is very low. My '93 Honda Civic was geared a lot higher.

Don't worry, you'll get used to the low first gear.

How long have you been driving a 5 speed? Let your B/F drive it and ask him. The TC has somewhat aggressive gearing, but 5mph is proposterous.

our gears are geared rediculously low... done on purpose for aggressive drivers. but yeah... it's more around 15mph then 5mph.... btw, 15mph is the recommended shift point according to the manual.

first gear is rather weak if you don't step on it to at least 3k anything under that you see cars next to you pass you up...
