i purchased a genuine leather shift knob for my xa (made by trd) from carson toyota-
www.newscionparts.com/product/?id=660

unfortunately, they didn't include any install instructions and since have told me that they do not have any. the item on the website is located on page 3 of the interior section of xa accessories. altough the picture is not of an xa carson toyota says that it is a jdm part for an automatic xa. it appaers that the shift knob in no way matches the size of the shifter shaft. has anyone purchased/installed one of these? any help is greatly appreciated.

looks like that 2 screws hold the shift lever knob on

tried that and pulled lightly up and there was resistance, i'm assuming from some type of wiring. i didnt want to damage anything (being i have no idea what i'm doing!). it just seems like this isn't the right part, although they swear it is. anybody have this ??

This might help (it is for an echo, but the shifters look pretty much identical):
