View Full Version : dual exhaust for tc?
tC9o9 11-15-2005, 04:55 PM hey guys, well i plan to go with the street concept M power rear bumper, i will most likely make the middle piece carbon, and i was wondering what your opinions on this exhaust were? it is a single muffler dual tip exhaust that is made for the SRT-4 and i think that if would fit perfect, but i am not sure on the dimensions of the rear bumper, or on the exhaust, but anyways i will just be buying the muffler...so tell me what you think:

kcautotc 12-15-2005, 03:57 PM this is exactly what i was thinking about doing. please help others! i tried looking on ebay for the mufflers that insert in the middle on one side, and outlets on both sides, that way i still am only running single exaust, not dual, but having dual tips. a lot of cars have systems like that, but im not going to buy a 500 dollar cat back that doesnt even fit. i want just the muffler, and have my local exhaust shop do the piping.
also, ill buy the tips sepatate, but it would be nice to have two of the tips that come on trd's axle back. that would be real sweet. but i really dont want to increase the sound that much. like right between trd and stock, so no hint of ricey 4 cylinder sound. i hate that since the last 3 cars i had were all v6's. and no replies about how you dont think it sounds ricey, it prob doesnt. just personal pref. thanks.

he was talking about this but im not sure where he wants the exhuast to come from
if you look at the bumer the whough the huge holes where it looks like you would shove 2 fart cans cant realy fit them due to suspension parts so i guess the exhaust has to exit under the center section witch meens it can hang realy realy low since this kit hangs low to begin with
tC9o9 12-15-2005, 06:20 PM well, now that i have done alot of reseach on the topic, i have found out many things. for one... it is really easy to have a dual tip exhaust on our tc's. becuase we have about 20 inches from the axle to the back of the bumper... we can fit any muffler sideways. this means that if you go with a 5 inch round magnaflow muffler, connect a y pipe at the end, run two pipes from the Y... one going to the right and one going to the left... something like this.

this set up would have really poor flow. i would look at something more like the 350Z has. like this. http://www.hopupracing.com/meraoeexni35.html but i am not ompletely familure with the rear suspension and subframe of the tC. this will give you that dual exhaust look with out the reduction in performance and sound quality. Great project.
aarontrini85 12-15-2005, 06:48 PM yes the 350z or g35 one would work and you could pick a muffler up like that from almost any where and passing up the suspension shouldnt be to big a deal but no performance gains from this setup more just looks and dead weight but hell if your doing a body kit you probly dont care mutch about performance
Phixeus 12-15-2005, 08:27 PM well you could get the performance if you where matting it up to a a system like DRAXAS. you could have any custom shop form a piece to mate the to up real clean. for cheap too. i think it would look great.

searching does wonders.... anyway, i believe Gabe at PrecisionMuffler has addressed the single in-dual out before and i believe he said that it is difficult or impossible to do with the amount of space under our car. this set up is nice looking, but it really is more for looks than performance

its not that hard especialy since every thing is able to hang lower since he is going to have a body kit
just not worth any thing but looks
ucyib2papi 12-15-2005, 09:46 PM i was actually wanting to do the g35/z exhaust also. and yes i want to do it for looks so leave me alone

Phixeus 12-15-2005, 11:27 PM the reason i think that the 350Z or G35 kits will work better is b/c the technology is already there and all you have to do is get the pip over to the inlet and not fabricate the whole thing. it most certainly is for looks and that is great but if you use a kit that was already built for that pourpose i dont think you will loose any performance at all.
i also think that with a lower rear valance or a complete body kit you will not have any vis issues.
tC9o9 12-16-2005, 12:11 AM well, i wanted to use the g35 exhaust, but most companies only make a catback... and wont sell the muffler itself.
Kenshin 12-16-2005, 05:05 AM go to a junkyard and get a muffler from a junked 350
IAmTheProdigy 12-18-2005, 11:45 PM Just got my car up on a lift and had some of the guys at Lou's Custom Exhaust take a look at it. They were thinking 2.5 all the way back and splitting the piping towards the end and going with the 2 mufflers. It'll be a tight fit but it should be doable. I was also quoted around 800 for stainless magnaflow from the header back. Not too bad. But as was mentioned, definitely a style mod.
I hope there are more mods on your car, because if you use pipe that is too big, you might actually lose power.
IAmTheProdigy 12-21-2005, 11:37 PM This is the precursor to my AW header, supercharger, and intake. I plan on getting the header and exhaust done at the same time so I can knock out the rasp immediately.
krdshrk 12-22-2005, 03:25 PM It's twin mufflers and tips... but..... EW ANGLED!
WeDriveScions 12-22-2005, 04:07 PM Still have yet to see a dual exhaust, other than on a SEMA car, that really gets me excited... if you look under there, there isn't that much room to play with, unless you really want to worry about scraping all the time....
Great for Show... Bad for Go....
HKSpeed 12-22-2005, 04:17 PM would a Z33 (350z/g35) muffler be too narrow (the space between the exhaust tips)? i would imagine you'd have to modify the tips to get a wider angle to fit the tC's bumper.
i wonder if an oem Z33 muffler would make any performance gains on a tC. 4 cylinder VW owners have used oem mufflers from 6 cylinder models for cheap horsepower/better sound.
has anyone ever been able to modify a ZZ231 Celica (last model Celica) exhaust on a tC? i know its not a dual exhaust, but that Celica's exhaust layout looks similar to the tC. i always wondered about compatability since that celica has a greater exhaust selection.

unsungfate 12-23-2005, 07:09 AM why dual muffler??? its a 4 banger... so you guys are doing 2 cylinders per exhaust??
WeDriveScions 12-23-2005, 02:57 PM For SHOW... Not GO That's why people do it.
BLAZIN 12-23-2005, 03:40 PM zero is that your tc? cause DAYUMN! that looks good.....i would scrap my HKS hi-performance for that beauty.....for sure...if not yours who...if you know.
SSH_Motorsport 12-23-2005, 03:54 PM Blazin, as far as I know, the pic that zero posted is of a tC in FL. I think it belongs to a guy that works for Scion Speed. I emailed him a while back about getting an exhaust setup liek that, in 2.5" cuz his is 3", but he never got back to me. :tap:
BLAZIN 12-23-2005, 04:11 PM Thanks bro, yea I just looked up the sorce of the pic and saw its from scionspeed.com. Its they're project car, I just email there website, I hope they get back to me and plan on retailing it cause that thing is beautiful!
WreckedtC 12-24-2005, 03:04 AM I had a local shop custom bend some pipe with 3A weld on tips. It's a bit loud but I think it looks awesome with the body kit (but I'm a bit partial  ) Plus it wasn't too expensive.

RacerZack 12-28-2005, 01:36 AM wow, i'd be interested to see pix from under your car, wreckedtC. that is very clean looking. what muffler did u use?
i don't get why everyone keeps whining about how "little" space there is under the tC. omg it's the grand canyon under there. u want tight, go poke around under a miata. if i can have a single-in, dual-out exhaust on my miata -- with power gains -- then i do not see why it can't work easily on a tC. in fact, i plan on doing a dual tip exhaust on my new tC as soon as i can... i will also have dyno tests of before/after and will get pix, i promise.

looks good what color is ur car?
Jimmy 12-28-2005, 11:48 PM just wondering why you would want to put dual exhausts on a 4 banger? IMO the engine doesnt suck enough air in for dual exhaust.
just my opinion
