2 cabin filters?
Was Lookig over the manual for the new 2006 Xb and couldn't figure out on of the air filter things. I've read and read, but it seems as though in my manual it says there are two cabin filters. One is in the front that youi have to unscrew and one that is the pull out one. I've not seen the front one ever mentioned. Just wondering if you it is included in these write-up's
The owner's manual does appear to show two filters....at least on the '06. I had to purchase the paper one though. The second one seems to be some sort of washable deal.
I really haven't looked that closely though. Guess I need to read the manual to see exactly what it says.

read some other thread here on this website regarding making one's own cabin filter for a much lesser price...
I did with a Filcrete filter this weekend ($3.97 at Home Depot, and I can make four filters out of it...). It was really easy making it to fit after reading the thread about it this past weekend...

According to the service manuals for the 2004-05 xBs, the area below the 'air filter case' (the removable drawer the filter goes into) where the '06 owners manual thinks there is a second filter is the 'blower motor cover' which has the 'recirculation/fresh air inlet damper' in it (the black trapdoor that opens to 'recirculate' cabin air).
With only minor changes to that cover piece there could be a place to put a filter.
In the '04-'05 xBs there is only a filter for the outside air coming into the blower. Adding a filter for the recirculated interior air almost seems unnecessary, but they certainly could have done it easily enough.
The next question is, of course, will the '06 'blower motor cover' fit the '04-'05 blower?
(Personally I don't really want an additional filter, but I am interested in finding out if the pieces are interchangable.)
PICS! PICS!

I haven't even bothered with looking into the air filter... got back from riding my quad on the track the other day and blew my nose... had more dirt coming out in one day on the track than probably all year driving the xb without a filter.
Hi, I got my xB last wednesday and the dealer told me that beyond the filter I also needed to purchase a box where the filter goes in....he even said that he had the filter in stock...called polen filter but he was out of the "box". I did not believe him and I'll remove the glove box to take a look. I have a '06 model. Did anyone buy a box for the filter ?
If he is referring to the tray that the cabin filter fits into, it's already there.
The debate on this thread is whether the '06 has 2 filters as shown in the owner's manual....the regular cabin filter and an addtional filter on the front of the HVAC blower.
