View Full Version : GETTING A 2-TONE PAINT JOB...NEED SOME ADVICE
DaDa_688 11-22-2005, 02:22 AM hey i need some help here. i have a tcm xb. Im planning on getting a 2-tone paint job. i have a few questions. My first question would be should i paint the top half or the bottom half black? My next question would be is if i do paint the bottom half black, would i have to paint all the door jams and all the little parts inside of the door? would the paint job look bad if i leave all that tcm if i paint the bottom half black? If someone could photoshop one of my pics on my profile with both the bottom half painted black and the top half painted black so i can see both that would be a big help.
2tone_xB 11-22-2005, 03:14 AM how about you stay away from black?
if you're sticking with black, move away from Orlando. :silly:
too many of the same colors here. :]
Sciond 11-22-2005, 03:29 AM how about just paint the left or right side........
squirrel 11-22-2005, 03:34 AM Black, in Orlando!?! Better upgrade the air conditioning!
bB2NER 11-22-2005, 08:30 AM In order for it to look "right" I say do the jams to match. The color combo sounds hot Bro. No wonder it is such a popular thing. Good luck
Scotty_Dietz 11-22-2005, 10:57 AM IMO the jambs should be painted.Black and silver is a cool combination.I thought about it but went for a two tone gray on DA BOX.
hotbox05 11-22-2005, 07:50 PM paint the bottom black. the jambs should be black but don't need to be

Agreed

bB2NER 11-22-2005, 08:40 PM paint the bottom black. the jambs should be black but don't need to be :eyebrow: That statement makes no sense.
It would look unfinished and dumb with the jams left silver. Plus you would see the silver around the gaps.
suspended 11-22-2005, 08:41 PM think about this as well, if your car is silver and you paint the bottom black...what about the engine bay? it would look kinda weird if the whole bottom was black then you open your engine bay and its silver...i'm just anal like that

agreed completly, do the door jams, and i didn't even think that you would see the silver, but thats a good point...finish it off, save the money for it ;-)
DaDa_688 11-23-2005, 12:47 AM well thanks for ur help guys...the reason i was asking about the door jams is because the guy wants an extra 300-400 dollars to paint the door jams. Do u think its worth the money...like would it make a significant difference in the appearance or the quality of the paint job? AND can someone photoshop a few pics for me plz so i can see both the bottom and the top painted black
bB2NER 11-23-2005, 01:27 AM It seems like it would be more work masking off the jams from the exterior surface. It would look like do do if they just sprayed the surface and did nothing to cover the jams. You could alway spray the jams yourself first then just let him do the rest. Something doesn't sound right !

yeah it does. it SHOULD be done but it wouldnt be horrible if it wasnt. i'd do it but it isn't NEEDED. just should be done.

Padanky 11-30-2005, 01:42 AM doing the top will cost 1/4 of price.

I wasn't sure where you wanted the division between silver and black, so I just guessed.
