Ebay is flooded with the things now. Ending auctions are going for less and less. Pre-orders last night on EBay were going for over $1K, now the actual systems, NIB, are going for $600. I've seen some as low as $500.
One note people falled to see. To play original XBox games, a broadband connection is required in order to download the emulators so they'll run. It only comes with emulators for Halo 1 & 2.

Never said it was a bad thing. My theory is, most of the people who bought them had no intention of using them thanks to EBay. They thought "oh I'll just buy a couple and sell them on EBay for 400% profit", problem is everyone is doing that, saturating the market. I don't know about some of you but I make more $ at work in 5 hours than spending 5-6 hours in freezing rain for $200 profit.
As more and more people toss them on ebay, the profit margin shrinks. It's basic economics, once supply exceeds demand, the prices will fall.

First wave of games is somewhat anemic; noisy exhaust fan; no built-in wireless networking; only three USB ports; no support for next-gen HD movie discs; no DVI or HDMI output; doesn't upscale DVDs to HD resolution; gigantic oversize power supply; price will almost certainly drop.

I looked around on the xbox 360 forums and most people there are very happy with there systems. There are a few people on there who got faulty ones with cooling, setup, controller, etc. problems. If you got a bad one then thats probably just bad luck, when the line to get one decreases, exchange it for a new one.

From what I'm hearing the demand is way larger than supply, in the total market that is. So even if many people are on e-bay selling them, there should still be a great enough demand that the prices won't come down that much, atleast not yet.

True but if the prices are too high, then no matter the demand, no one will buy it. In a perfect world, demand at a price will equal supply at a price creating an equilibrium point. For instance, demand at the retail price of $400 is much higher than demand at $1200.
That in one way is the beauty of EBay, demand has a very big effect on price.

Here are my 2 cents about the 360:
A great system that is vastly superior to the current consoles out on the market. Unfortunately, the developement time on these units wasn't that long. About 8 months with real hardware in place. If you look back at the release of games on PS2 from launch to current, the software has gotten so much better. Companies will always have all this hype around new systems, but it takes time for developers to create great content. A lot of the games had to be dumbed-down to make it past QA testing on the Microsoft side. Next year and the years after will really show the muscle of this unit.
That being said, I still want one. Yet, I'm wasn't going to wait in line for one. If I'm able to secure one through my company then I'll purchase. I mainly want it for HD. Once you start playing games in HD, it is so hard to go back and look at the current consoles. Just leaps & bounds ahead graphically. Also, the 360's are a little on the loud side. And the power brick is huge. Think of this sleek case as a pc. The power supply needs to go somewhere & the fans to cool it need to pump air.
If you got a bad one, the odds were simply against you. Just need to trade it in. These machines do run hot. Give them room to breath. You don't want to hear them at full blast.

i agree on the price hike for the 360 it isnt right, its the same as ticket scalping, and i also agree that you wont get the real power of this sysyem until next year...but i am really excited about the new nintendo, the controller seems really cool, its crazy that xbox and sony systems cost so much and they make no money whats so ever... i read an article the other day sayn it will take sony and xbox 3-4 years to see any profits on these system... that just seems insane to me, especially when there like 400-600 dollars ive heard the new nintendo is gonna be arounf 199.00 that is way more affordable, and the system is really sleek lookn. i dunno i think nintendo for me might be the way to go

I hate gamecube and in my opinion the controller on the new nintendo system will suck. Imagine pointing your tv remote at your tv for 1 hour while moving it around and pressing multiple buttons. Not fun. If the revolution is anything like the gamecube, it'll suck...IMO. In a year, once the 360 will have games that really show it's power and you will be able to get a 360 with no waiting for $400 or less, then it will be worth it. The 360 will will be a great system after they fix the launch system's bugs and make it easy to go to a store and just pick one up without a line.

I def agree with you. No sense in getting a 360 now, especially when it means waitiing in line for hours (and here in the northeast, it was also pouring all night) and not have any real good games to play on it. I love Halo, so Im gonna wait until MS announces a release date for Halo 3 and then Ill go get one. By then, i could probably just walk into a store and buy one. And even when MS releases Halo 3, with the way Bungie makes their games H1> H2> H3, and Halo 2 sucks already. Halo lasted over 3 years; Halo 2 blows and it just hit its 1 year anniversary... maybe I'll recant my previous statement about waiting for Halo 3. When is PS3 being relesed? :lalala:

Gamecube wasnt my favorite system either... but i do love mario kart, smash, zelda, so revoultion will be a hit... and its not just a remote they have a controller cradle that is more traditional for those who like a more tradional controller, but the new ontroller will have motion sensors and is movement sentive so say ,im Link and i swing the controller link will swing his sword, thats pretty neat to me, its better than what xbox is offering, a over priced half way next gen system... now if you were making an arugment for ps3 you have a point but not with xbox they have one game, halo and that bout it! only game i own for xbox is halo2 lol but thats just me, i cant think of another game on xbox at the moment thats good. but whats really crazy is that microsoft lost 4 billion dollars on xbox, nintendo made 1 billion profit and sold less systems
there was an article (no-biased mind you) that said if xBox had not released with HALO, it would have gone the way of the 1st gen nokia n-gage.

What do you meen by that? Sure, if your looking at just the games that are out NOW its not that big of an improvment besidesthe graphics, but like i said, wait 1 year and you will see the true power of the 360's hardware. It IS a new generation system, just not with the games on it currently. And about xbox having only one good game....I TOTALLY disagree with that. Halo is to xbox as Mario is to nintendo. There are many great games on xbox like Fable, Forza, and Doom 3 just to namea few. Plus, theres probably a lot of games on xbox that you haven't played that are very good. Nintendo is a much more cartoony system, graphics wise and just overall gamewise which really isn't my thing. That's probably why mostly kids under like age 12 buy them (Gamecubes). The only good nintendo game i can think of is Zelda...that's just off the top of my head. There aren't very many games made for nintendo either. in comparison to other systems it's probably like 1 to 5 games (nintendo to xbox or ps2).

i guess each system appeals to different gamers. i think playstation is better for role playing games but xbox has the online gaming market cornered. and nintendo, like stated earlier, is geared more towards kids. this is why i will continue to get all 3 systems so that i can have the best of all worlds.
i love what each system brings to the table and they each have their own little advantage.

I agree completely with that^
If I could afford all 3, I would buy all of em, but since me, and the majority of people can't do that we choose which one we like best. When you pay $50 for an xbox game, it usually has Live. That meens that your $50 are going much further than a ps2 or gamecube game because you can play the xbox game for a much longer time and not get bored of it becuase it will change everytime when you play online. Thats also a big selling point to many people. Although ps2 has online games, theres not as many and not as many people play ps2 online. Plus ps2 online is laggy, it supports 56k'ers.

I just love how a lot of people are screaming it's too expensive for what you get. Is anyone forgeting the launches of the PS2 and original Xbox? The PS2 launched at $299 same as the core 360, 5 years ago!
Here's what you got in the box ($300 in 2000):
1) PS2 System
1) Wired Controller
1) RCA hookup cables
1) Power cord
Here's the core 360 ($300 in 2005):
1) Xbox 360 System
1) Wired Controller
1) RCA Hookup cables
1) Power Block
1) Xbox Live Silver Membership
Now for the same price 5 years later, you get more. Oh but you might say "the PS2 played PS games out of the box", then I'll say "big deal". How many of us bought the PS2 with the intent of playing PS games? I know I didn't, I already had a PS. Here's something the PS2 didn't have, networking out-of-the-box, this is something that the PS3 will also most likely still be lacking.
The original Xbox listed at $350 at launch and came with FAR less than the $400 360 Premium Pack.
The Xbox at launch ($350 in 2001):
1) Xbox system
1) Wired controller
1) 8GB HDD
1) RCA Hookup cables
1) Power cord
Xbox Premium at launch ($400 in 2005):
1) Xbox 360 System
1) Wireless Controller
1) HD Component Hookup Cables
1) Xbox Live headset
1) DVD Remote (launch units only)
1) 20GB HDD
1) Network cable
1) Xbox Live Silver Membership
1) Xbox Live Gold 30-day Trial
1) Power block
Now the original core of the Xbox was your standard 733MHz PIII, the 360's core is a mind-numbing, triple-core PowerPC chip with each core running at 3.2GHz!!! Multiple times more advanced than the original. Also, the original Xbox couldn't play DVD's until you bought add-on software, the 360 does this standard.
Doesn't look like the 360 is a bad deal afterall. Remember, the launch games for the PS2 were crap, the only memorable one being Tekken Tag. The first batch of PS2's barely lasted a year, I no mine didn't, because of the dreaded disc read errors.
I personally don't have an original Xbox and will gladly get the Premium 360 and be grateful, it's a great deal. For those that think the PS3 will be in the same price bracket as the 360, you'll be very mistaken. I easily see the PS3 listing for between $500-$600 based on the specs of it.

Couldn't agree w/ you more...supply & demand. Quite simple. If these idiots want to pay twice as much for the system, that's their deal.
Lastly, I'm waiting a while for M$ to get all the bugs out of the system. There are so many instances already of the system overheating and crashing in games.
The PS3 is going to launch in the spring in Japan and shortly there after in the States most likely...there is no way they are going to wait 4 or 5 months before releasing it here after the Japan release. It's def. going to be sooner then later too...Sony Execs released pricing to reflect current xBox prices.
Oh yeah...and Nintendo. It must be the loyalty in me...but I think Nintendo puts out a superior product that gets dissed because it doesn't always get the same games as PS2 and XBox. They still have a ton of 1st party games that will kick any 1st party games from Sony & M$...

that's why some people were having overheating problems, cause they put the 360 in confined spaces...the manual clearly states to make sure the power supply and the 360 be clear of any constrictions...let it breathe...
if you look at the number of threads popping up in the 360 forums about defects and such, it looks like there's a lot...but it's the same people posting at the same threads...making it look like there a lot of defective boxes..

^^^ Exactly. I have a second-shipment preorder for the 360, so at this point it's a waiting game.
I don't understand the whole rivalry, frankly I think it's pointless and immature. If a person doesn't like what the system has to offer then just don't buy it. I could see where if I had my hand in developing either box, then I could see being a little bias, but come on! I'd be willing to guess that most of the people that scream "Xbox sucks, PS rules" have never even played an Xbox. I have played the original Xbox but hated the controller, doesn't mean I should become a PS2 fanboy.
Personally I plan on getting both the 360 and PS3 (probably not at launch) because I like what both systems have to offer.

some state that they did have problems, but fixed it with small solutions..(i.e. AV cables not being plugged in all the way; hard to see tape covering disc tray, causing it not to open)

haha makes you wonder how those kind of people even got the box open! although i did try opening my cd tray with the tape on it still. didnt see it at first.
the taped door does suck tho, it leaves tape residue all over it, so then you need to clean it off carefully and make sure u dont get any of the rubbed of residue inside the tray

except sony screws the consumer with every sony product. their cameras all require their brand memory cards which cost more. psp only works with their memory card

what i meant by a half way next gen system was that the xbox 360 will be so inferior to sony... it doesnt have hd dvd, it doest have wirless contnection built in(100 dollar add on) no hdmi out put, its huge(but so is ps3) sony game disk are gonna be able to hold 45 gigs of memory compared to 4.5 gigs in which xbox holds, once people see ps3 its gonna be over just like it was for dreamcast,it has hdmi, wirless wifi, cna play up to 7 controllers on 1 system(8would make more sense) and it goes up to 1080p, but who has a tv that goes up to 1080p im not a big sony fan but im just stat'n fact, the power of thatmachine is gonna be awesome i sall metal gear in real time and it blew me away, it looked lke a cg video

How many of us bought the PS2 with the intent of playing PS games?
I know I did. :P
The first batch of PS2's barely lasted a year
Mine still works fine, it has met the floor a few times, and I had to do some emergency surgery a year ago. I must be lucky.
_______________
one thing i dont like are fanboys, its prejudice. if i felt that MS offered me something special with the xBox, sure i would buy one. but i think a PC is a better choice between the 2.
but before that i would probably have a PS3 and the revolution (i think the controller will be interesting to use!)

O my God. I still have my Coleco Vision and I thought I was the only one who ever played that Smurfs game lol. My Dad bought it for me and my Sister for XMas when it first came out. HE was so excited about it he let us open it early and play it everyday after school and we'd wrap it back up after so my Mom wouldn't know LOL...good times. I wonder how much my Coleco is worth now...

^see what I mean. I'm sure the bugs will be fixed by first quarter next year but the first few batches will be crap at best. I've had the original PS, PS2 and now the slim PS2 and never had any problems with any of them. Sony = quality and M$ = $$$.
P.S. - isn't XBox live gonna cost like $80 for the starter kit and another fee per month?? With PS3 you can buy any compatible headset and there is no monthly fee.

strange I respect cnet.com a lot on how they review the stuff and they actually gave the xBox 360 a really high score 8.4 that's the highest score any product received from cnet

i think it's $69.99 for the 12 month membership, with no additional monthly fees...unlimited play and some downloadable extras might require points/money...i like playin on xbox live and another plus is no one can cheat/hack

ok, $80 for the starter kit and $70 for a year. that's $150 extra dollars just to play online. Cost after cost after cost just to play these games. In the end, to me it's not worth it when you can spend less money on a better system. Don't get me wrong, XBox has awesome graphics and great games but it's just dollar intense to get those awesome graphics and great games.

You guys have it all wrong on the X-Box Live prices. Yes, the new Gold Starter Kit (12 months) is $80, but you get the 12 Months of Gold Service, plus a $20 Mail-In Rebate on any X-Box 360 Game, a free X-Box Live Arcade Game, 200 Microsoft Points, and a 360 headset.
X-Box Live still costs $50 for One Year, not $60 or $70 like you guys are saying.

I'm going by the prices I saw online. My whole point is that it costs to get the Live package and PS is free.

I don't know/don't care whether the 360 is worth it or not. Personally, I don't have the $300-$400 to waste on it, plus the cost of games/accessories.
Regardless, I have a relative who works for Best Buy. His boss told him and his collegues to wrap up 360's with games/accessories and sell as arranged. The people in line protested, and ultimately got what they wanted. I guess he was expected to sell $300 or $400 in accessories for every xbox 360 sold.
Can you imagine that. Someone shows up at a store, lays out $300 or $400 for the console, and then goes ahead and shells out another $300 for accessories.

you don't have to shell out more cash after you buy the kit...that is your xbox live account...
yeah, not everyone will shell out that much money for the Xbox 360...neither will people spend that much money on the PS3, nor high end wheels, nor all-out audio/video car set ups, home entertainment systems...everyone has their own preference...ahh, i'm tired...i'm close to a turkey coma

I waited in line at Walmart for 8 1/2 hours. :loser: There were 14 chairs for 14 XBox's. I was number 5. I bought Call of Duty 2 and Project Gothom Racing 2. It's hooked up to my Hitachi 55" Wide screen HDTV and my Bose Surround sound. It is amazing. I'm really into XBox live. It only took about 30 seconds to transfer my live account from the old Xbox to the 360. I haven't had any problems yet. I know about the overheating issue, but that isn't the 360 itself, it the exteranl power supply that is overheating. It shouldn't be laying on the ground. By the way the PS3 isn't slated to come out untill 2007 due to development kit issues. It was well worth the wait in line.
