Default Major problem if stalled!!

This is the weirdest thing that ever happened to me...just to fill you guys in i have a 05 scion tc 5speed with injen intake and greddy evo 2 exhaust...also a viper alarm...only mods so far, so i dunno wut could cause the problem...

First off....yesterday i was leaving work and i accidently stalled....so i started the car back up....almost imediately it shut back off...so im like wtf?? Then i try to restart the car again and the engine just wouldn't turn over!! i checked for any engine lights nothing was indicating nething going wrong...then i turned the car completely off and restarted it and it worked fine..im thinking it might be a fuel problem or ecu issue.

After trying to test it out a couple times i found out that netime i have that problem it only works fine if i turn the car completely off and restart it...so im guessing somethings resetting. also sometimes when i stalled it to test it....it didn't always shut down when restarting...sometimes it would get fuel cut...then da fuel kicks back in and da car jerks and drives normal....what could be the problem?? i need help asap before i end up having to take it to toyota.

This happend to me when my car was completly stock about 3 months after i bought it. 05' 5 speed and i brought it back to the dealer and they said it was nothing at all. it only happend once, however how you explained it, it was the exact same order as of how it happened, and yes i had to turn the car completly off in order to make it turnover again. hope that helps

Its possible that when you stalled it the ignition thought it was still in the on position so you had to turn it all the way back to reset it. I dont know much about it tho. But I have driven diesel trucks that you could crank partially and get to fire on 4 instead of 6 cylinders. So i imagine its all in the ignition.

Thats weird as hell but I feel a lottt better that im not the only one.....at one point i thought it was the remote start but turned out it wasnt. im gonna check it every now and then and see what happens before i decide to take it to the dealership....btw how long did they keep your car for?

You also make a good point.....now that i think of it....if i remote start the car, when i get inside i have to put the key in and turn it to the on position....hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I have the same problem. I'm working on a fix right now.

You have remote start on your alarm right? It's the DEI unit that sends the ignition code from your valet key under the dash that's conflicting with the stock key's code. You either need to send both keys at once or one or the other and I think I'm sending both right now, but I have to double check.

What happens is, the ignition kills due to your stalling, and the ECU looks for the right key code before it will send fuel to the injectors. You had fuel in your lines long enough to get a few feet but the fuel cut off engages and the car stalls a second time.

I'm not sure what's going to resolve the issue, but I'm pretty sure it's coming from the DEI immobilizer bypass. I wasn't having the problem until we switched the sending methods on the unit. Have your installer take a look at it and explain to him the problem. Do you notice you can't put the key in and IMMEDIATELY turn the ignition? I have to wait 2-3 seconds before the code sends now since installing the directed bypass unit. Which is the same issue, a delay in sending the correct code or the ECU trying to sort out which code to take.

fuel cut off and the ecu needed to reset? This hasnt happened to me in the tc yet when i stall, usually like you say it starts right back up.

On another note, this did happen to me in the 4runner, given that it was an auto, i accidently popped in into reverse instead of neutral while going forward, and i dont mean rolling forward.... besides the engine stalling and every light in the dash coming on, a suv isnt that easy to control without power steering and brake press. nevertheless, i had to shut the car completely down because it wouldnt turn over from the "on" position. i was young....

Im not sure if this helps, but every manual Ive ever driven if stalled required the key to be turned to off before the car will restart. The tC acts no differently than any other manual Ive ever driven (and thats quite a few).

it might not start because your dumping fule into the cylinder w/o it being ignited...my 2 cents
