Is my XB a car, wagon, mini van or micro van? My wife insists on calling it a van :x . I rant and rave and tell her that it's a car, but...if I squint with one eye and don't look out the other, my Hot Lava looks like the bastard child of a Chevy Astro Van. In any case I still love my bastard baby :D

Most aftermarket sites I've seen categorize the xB as a "Micro Van".

You could always call it a "Short Bus" if you want to...

I prefer the Japanese designation of the class - 2box

Tell them its N/A - Not Applicable - the vehicle is unclassifiable.

wagon seems to be the common term.

BraveLittleToaster

I wouldnt consider it a van because most vans are built on truck frames, so its most likely a 5dr wagon.

It's a 5 door wagon. I sometimes think of it as a microvan. Does anyone know what the xA is? 5 door wagon or compact?

Just like the Beetle Volkswagon, it stands on it's own. Classification is just a matter of insurance purposes. It's one to many saki's during lunch brake. :P

I might make my self look like a retard but on my registration it says... class SUBRN , I was guessing that means suburban. But a chevy suburban is umm alittle bit bigger eh? No idea why it would be in that class.

How do you mean? My VW beetle is clearly a 2-door sedan. My xB is clearly a 5-door wagon. Insurance rates on 5-door wagons are quite low, so don't complain about the mundane sound of the classification!

Sorry to burst any bubbles my friends, but the xB is a SUV/VAN. Seriously.

Everyone's overlooked the one glaring hint every single xB and xA have that tell you what there classification is.

All xB's come from the factory with factory colored glass ("tint") from the B-pillar back. All xA's come from the factory with clear glass all the way around.

Federal law prohibits the sale of a CAR with factory colored glass in the US. When ever you see a CAR with tint - some tinter somwhere did that AFTER the car was brought into the USA.

Vans are another story. Federal law will allow TRUCKS (e.g VANS, suv's, sut's etc) to be sold with factory installed darkened glass. This allowed ONLY on trucks. No exceptions.

If it was a station wagon (as insurance companies classify it), the xB would not be allowed to have factory "tint". A wagon is a car.

Technically, the xB is a sub-compact VAN.

So anyhow - it's the factory darkened windows that give it away.

On the papers from the dealership it says its a wagon. The guy at the car show called it an upgraded car, not a downgraded truck. But I've seen it called a micro van on many websites. My husband thinks its funny to call it a van but just because it ____es me off. That's where I got the name micro machine. Remember the micro machine cars? Thats what it reminds me of. I don't really care what you want to call it because its the coolest micro machine in the whole wide world! I love it. :D

HAHA funny - b/c fed gov't classifies it as a WAGON! tis why insurance companies classify it as a wagon.

window tint smindow tint! my moms lexus and benz came with tint FACTORY, so did my BFs VW! factory!! imported from GERMANY!! and my BFs from BRAZIL! the fact that its a wagon or an suv or wutever has NOTHING to do with window tint, it has to with what the fed rate it as and the feds call it a wagon end of story.

now you can call it whatever ya want. if your insurance lists it as a suv, you got ripped of b/c SUVs cost more than a wagon. mwahahahaha

my rav4 got switched to being called awagon b/c after many years the fed realized that the rav4 isn't anywhere close to being an suv. its actually a celica wagon....

so i got 2 wagons on my insurance... DAMN its cheap for a 22 yearold chick! muti car paln and both are wagons!

In the state of Texas it is rated a Small Wagon on the window sticker. And the xA is rated as a sub-compact. So that is what Texas thinks.

Ok kids...I'm an insurance agent, and our company, along with most other companies, and the Fed Govt, classify the xB as a wagon. The xA is a 4-door hatchback, the xB a 5-door wagon. Clear as mud, huh?

Besides, wagons are cool rides. Ever seen the Japanese market-only Caldina and Wish? They are sweet, and they're wagons...Look at the Audi S4 Avant. Hauls gear and ___!!! :D

My Insurance company has it listed on my policy as a Wagon, which thank good if they did not and it was an SUV I'd call and _____ at them since the rates would be higher for the mis-classification. I'm not sure the rates on vans/trucks, but a wagon come on it's got to be better... I wouldn't know though since I'm not a good comparision, 5 tickets and 1 suspension due to points, how fun it was.

All I know is that the carwashes in town charge me extra for it being an SUV/truck. As you would figure I've argued against that designation profusely. Come on, charge extra for washing these tiny boxes? I'd have to go with microvan as the correct classification.
