what i like about the alarm is it opens then doors when you turn the car off. I hated unloacking the doors when I wanted to get out.

Say what? Are you sure you got the Scion system? Mine does nothing of the sort.
I think the factory system is way overpriced and under featured.

Carjackers just LOVE cars that automatically unlock like that. :)
The normal 2004-2005 Scion VIP Security system doesn't do that...can you find out from the dealer (or even from the owner's manual for the alarm system) which alarm system you have?
Thanks!

dealers in my experience try to sell you horrible alarms for horrible prices.
My parents just bought a matrix... and the dealer tried to sell them an alarm (with the engine immobilizer) for 700$. (and if we wanted a shock sensor for window breakage it would cost 400$ more)
Thing is the matrix already had the engine immobilizer AND this wasn't even the toyota OEM alarm (VIP system MSRP: ~$400).
I asked exactly what we were getting and the manager told me it was a "passive alarm" and apparently it didn't do anything else except make a lot of noise.
For half that price you could get a remote start system, with 2-way notification. For around $100-$150 you can simply get a noisemaker.
I should also note that there was no theft deductible coverage as well (unlike normal alarms). If the car was stolen it wouldn't even cover the cost of the deductible.
There's only one system I know of that's by and for scions, and that's the one on their website, the VIP Scion Security. If you don't have that then your dealer lied to you (which many do quite often and quite liberally). It is a possibility though that they just installed the alarm that way.
