I heard the rumor that the tC in 2008 would be replaced with a rally-type car.. AWD, etc.. Now that Toyota has a stake in Subaru and will be using their factory in Indiana, has anyone also thought that the AWD type rally car could definitely be a reality for scion??

I mean think about it.. Everyone knows that Subaru has an excellent AWD system, the tC is done for in 2008 and a new model is scheduled to replace it.. Toyota this week has said that they are ramping up production for the 2008 model year..

So hey anything is possible.. but it sure seems to me that Toyota is getting something ready when the same time frame the Honda CRX is rumored to be coming back as well..

i really hope they don't build it in indiana though....subaru is already having problems with their trannys (this from some subaru dealers) which are built in japan. although the idea of a subaru inspired scion is awesome :)

Have any of you looked at the new Subaru SUV. That thing is horrible looking. If Toyota and Subaru join forces, lets hope it looks better then that thing.

The B9 Tribeca?!? Holee Crap! It's beautiful! It's got that Alfa Romeo vibe going, not to mention AWD with a boxer engine! It's definitley not a cookie-cutter SUV inside or out... but, then again, it's not every one's taste - don't h8 - appreciate! :P

Toyota is most likely going to build engines and transmissions at the plant - they can up production at the other plants if they can produce more drive trains.

Is Honda really bringing back the CRX? Where did you hear that from?

sciontc_mich
11-29-2005, 11:03 PM
from honda forums, plus there was this honda chat with the civic engineers at edmunds.com with the intro of the 2006 civic from what I remember.. they said that yes that the CRX would be coming back later in this model run.. so that puts it at 2007-2008..

hey it might not happen, but from what I've been hearing.. looks like it will.. plus you pair that with toyota looking at subaru, plus the rumor of a rally-type scion.. subarau=awd.. toyota using subaru's plant?? i mean it's simple addition to put the two together.. would be fun..

and no i don't think they would use the transmission from subaru, i believe that toyota would realize it has some problems and fix it.. but it'll be interesting to watch..

the tribeca is unique looking. i love the front and the interior. the side profile resembles the nissan murano. i don't like the rear especially the dimple for the license plate (looks as if they ran out of "puddy" to fill out the recess :P .

and what the deal with almost every suv has to have 3 rows of seats. if you need that much room, get a minivan !!!!

don't expect an awd vehicle from scion. doesn't make sense. AWD is expensive and to incorportate that into a scion would raise prices, going against the "target" audience. But on the other hand, I could be totally off base and they could produce an awd vehicle lower than 20k?

not so impossible when an impreza (same model as the WRX) starts at about $18k..

11-30-2005, 12:11 AM
yeah but that impreza is stripped. no audio, no power...nothing

as bubblemyster pointed out, it would go against everything that Scion is about....tons of options for "youngsters"!

hey not wanting to argue, but the impreza has most everything that the tC has.. only thing I can see is an MP3 player it doesn't have and sunroof..

for them to make a true rally car it would have to be a 2.0l engine so the tc would be out on the fact the engine is too large in size. from what i can figure they need to re-vamp sales for the xa so it has a chance.

I read an article today that they may build Highlanders there.

hmmm...2008 CRX you say (I'm a CRX-whore, I've owned 2, still have one).

I hope Honda doesn't mess up the winning CRX formula with stupid features, ugly design, and too much weight/not enough power.

I'm sure they could make one for under 20K (base). The #1 car I think of when I think Toyota AWD isn't the Celica All-Trac but the Starlet-Glanza AWD. Which come to think of it started to look more like the xA before it was discontinued...

They make two versions, a 5 passenger (2 rows seating) or a 7 passenger (3 rows). So you don't HAVE to get the one with 3 rows if you don't want to...

Let's make this simple. What does Toyota need more production of and is already assembling here in the US?

Avalon -Kentucky (doubtful -production numbers and sales seem to be good)

Camry - Kentucky/Japan (doubtful again-Japan can bring in cars when ever the line here in the US needs to adjust BUT there is need for more 4cyl LE models and the new Hybrid Camry will need a home)

All trucks are out- There is another Texas plant coming on line for Tundra and Tacoma numbers are fine.

Solara - Kentucky ( no -issue with assembly plus the conv. facility is there)

Corolla- US/Canada ( selling beyond the production numbers and the suppliers are here for the plants already) We may have a winner

Sequioa - Indiana Could go up there but the paint booth system is not set up for that large of a vehicle and production and sales numbers don't seem to justify it.

All the rest are Japan vehicles Scion  And the SUVs (RAV4, Highlander, 4Runner and Land Cruiser.

Lexus is a no-no because they would NEVER share a plant with their Lexus name plate with a non-Toyota shop.

WINNER - COROLLA
2nd Place CAMRY (maybe the hybrid model)

We sell both Subaru and Toyota/Scion here. As far as I know, the current generation of Subaru's do not have any tranny issues. That is something from the past.

First, each line has it's own merits. But if you are going to argue performance then the WRX os much better than the tC.

Again, there is really no comparison between Scion and Subaru. A WRX for example, now using the 2.5 liter engine, is generating 230 hp. With the new supercharger on the 2.4 liter tC you are looking at approximately 210 hp. Yes, no turbo lag so better off the line performance for the tC, but the WRX performance wise is the better vehicle.

As far as the Subaru plant being discussed. Toyota is looking at timelines here. It can take over 2 years just to get the permits and plans in place for a new plant. Here they just convert the plant in less than 2 years. It is highly lilkely the initial production will just be drive trains. The current plants are not at full production because there are not enough drive trains available. Toyota is building new plants as part of the planned increase in full size trucks. Their Camry plant will produce the new Hybrid Camry due out sometime later next year.

Sorry guys but none of the above. For now just an increase in production, hoping the Toyota name helps boost some sales to try and top GM. The new TC may be the next Celica model thuogh since its been dropped. Not positive on that one just heard that the Celica may be taken over by the Scion Division.

uhhh. WRX did NOT debue In 02. Its been around a while. The problem with the transmissions on the wrx's is the way they were built. they do NOT have the problems with the STI 6 speeds. when you are putting 300 horse through a tranny that is split the long way you get alot of flex.

also, about the 2.0 for rally cars? the STI is a 2.5L and alot of mitsu guys are running the evo head with the 2.4L bottom end. :) I miss my WRX

The WRX and STi versions are still 2.0 in Japan. The 2.5 boxer only comes in the Legacy GT turbo there I think. There may have been STi versions with larger displacement, but i'm not 100% sure

I waved at the Subaru plant when I drove by yesterday. Didn't see any 08 rally turbo tC's parked in front though
