Default Who's taking the NA lead ?

Having just read a bunch of stuff on the Skunk2 RSX (sub 10sec NA world record) and seeing the video. It struck me that there's really not a whole lot of aftermarket NA products for serious power for the TC. Once you've got IHE that's it really. Sure you could add a pulley or a flywheel or maybe a polished port - but there are only 1 or 2 of each available and then you're really at a lose.

I appreciate that the TC is only 2years old, but the focus really does seem to be on Turbos and Superchargers for power.

What are peoples thoughts on the NA side of the market and how it might develop or not?

I wish I knew the answer.

No one wants to track their bolton tCs.

F/I is cheap and easy, but some of us like to stay NA.

See that's just the thing, cheap for who?

Looking at the skunk2 site the bolt on additions aren't that expensive:

Cam Gears $200-300
Cam Shafts $400-700
Throttle Bodies $300
Intakes Manifolds $300

There's a lot of stuff, and it's cheaper than buying a $3000 turbo.

Now I know there are other things to consider, and I didn't plan on this being a whole NA vs FI flame war.

I was just curious who is anyone is going to take up the TC's flag in the NA world. ZPI seem to be there, but I sense their focus is on the big ticket turbo's, which require less R&D I'm guessing as they are built with 90% existing items (not that I don't blame them of course).

And before I get slammed, yes I know that changing the cam shaft is probably not a "bolt on" product. It's probably more complex than adding a turbo (machanically).

yeah, changing the cams is more involved than a turbo kit.

To make big NA HP we would need more compression. out the box, tC's are "low" compression 9.6:1, NA race cars run around 12:1 or higher. I think real power would be found by adding Hi-Comp pistons & maybe rods and ballancing for Higher RPM's in addition to the cams & headwork etc.. would probably give real NA power..

aside from that spending money on headwork or throttlebodies etc.. alone in search of big HP may not justify the costs..

Think about it.. to OVERSIMPLIFY, Turbo's and SC's increase the compression when they create boost...

Just my 2 cents..

Skunk parts are good for Cali peeps...alot of their stuff is CARB exempt for most Honda's and Acuras.

Cams would help a bit... if we could shift peak torque to around 5200 or so, that'd make a signifigant difference.

Good luck with idle though
