good light source
socket wrench with 7mm socket
standard screw driver (optional)
small 9/32 cresent wrench (optional)
patience and 15 minutes.
DO THIS WHILE THE CAR IS COLD AND NOT RUNNING.
Get a flash light and notice right behind the airbox, to the far upper right hand section of your engine bay, you will see the BPV behind some hoses.
http://motozen.net/tC/bpv/1.jpg
The BPV is connected to the car by a little vaccum hose on top of the BPV and 2 hoses from the side and bottom.
Unscrew and loosen the 2 hose clamps with a standard screw driver (optional), fitted 7mm socket, or in combination with a little 9/32 cresent wrench (optional). Please make sure you take off the little vaccum hose on top of it. It should come off with no problems.
Reverse the process and replace the BPV with the new BPV. I would make sure it is nice and snug in the hoses. Tighten the 2 metal clamps snug but not overly tight. You don't want to bite into the hoses.
Don't forget to reattach the little vaccum hose on the top of your new BPV. It should slip right on.
Took me about 15minutes. It is easier to get to if you detach the airbox hose a bit so you can get both hands involved. The airbox hose clamp comes off easy with a standard screw driver. You will see what I mean...
Disclaimer: Need I remind you that you do this at your own risk and that I am not responsible if you screw anything up? I thought so.

Hey Moto, I have the DC Sports strut bar. It seems to be more in the way than your hotchkis. Should this be a problem? I'm not so worried bout replacing the bpv, but rather getting to it.

dang I dont know. You can then take off the big airbox hose and you should be fine.
That gianormous hose attaches to the airbox and curves down the the SC. Loosen 2 clamps and it will come off np.

i popped open my hood and when i tried to find the bpv by how it was described in the write-up, i noticed something that looked similar but wasn't sure if it was bpv. the vacuum hose is on the right and not the top. maybe mine is just different?
Yes that is your BPV. the little vaccum hose is slipped on the top of the BPV. You have a hose to the left, and a hose coming out of the bottom of the BPV.
Take all 3 hoses off and replace. That simple.

Moto,
I installed mine last night. PITA, because the DC sports strut bar was TOTALLY in the way. I ended up taking off the strut bar and the hose that goes from the air box to the supercharger. It made it a whole lot easier. My bpv seems to be sitting the same way mr valentine's is. I don't how this could affect anything. correct me if i am wrong. I hope its ok. I don't feel like doing it again.

i just installed the bpv today. and all i can say is wow! you can really feel how much boost you gained back after replacing the old bpv with the sport one.
all in all it took me a total of maybe 25 minutes. most of that time was spent fideling with the freakin' intake tube trying to get it back into place perfectly.
very simple upgrade and you can automatically feel the difference after you put it on.
i give this upgrade a 10/10. go get yours now!

Does everyones S/C have that chirping sound at idle? I installed the 110 BPV today and it seems as if the chirping at idle is gone. :nails: All I hear now is the mechanical sound of the S/C.

^^^That is a good thing.
On another note, I read the TRD manual for the kit and it looks as if my BPV was put in diff. :tap: Stupid tech.
Anyway, I don't think it really matters but I switched it to what the manual has it just for esthetic reasons and to keep it OEM.

aww man. i installed the same way you installed it! lol it's ok. i might switch it to the other way around sometime. i don't know when, because i don't feel like messing with a good thing. :P but you're right it's the oem look, and us car guys are generally meticulous.

Yeah it really ticked me off. Switch over for me was like 15 minutes so it isn't a painful thing to do but still. :tap:
The BPV works by the little vaccum hose that sucks up the internal diaphragm so don't worry, it is still doing its job perfectly. Especially over the stock BPV.

it's actually really good that they've been using a bosch bpv-that way, they can never really give u a problem about changing it. i doubt the service depts really know that it's a 102 stock, and people changed it to a 110. realistically, changing the bpv shouldn't be an issue at all, but who knows how the service people and scion/toyota will look at it. the whole point of getting the sc was the fact it had the warranty. i don't wanna deal with them trying to give me crap about changing anything.

the only way they would know was if they checked the part number. and then its only 2 number different. *stock ends in 02, the new one ends in 10), and then even if they checked the number the mechanic would have to know what the stock number was.
Do you think they are going to go to every part on the car and check the part number against the booklet?
(i guess they could, but sounds doubtful)

thats what i said before
now that i got my header and spipe.
thats what im thinking again. stop modding think about warranty.
but o wells, i kno ima end up swapping out the bpv for a turboxs instead since nobody has tried it yet.

This is quite an informative site ( thanks again motozen for the tips ). We recently added the sc to my wife's car; unfortunately it was installed on same day as a snow storm so we've had only limited days to go out and run this thing. For her/us, it's more important at this point just to get the most fun for the buck. The valve sounds like a great change to make; as it should be something you can feel every day on the street. We also are looking into some of these other mods posted on this site ( pulley, etc ) but do keep warranty in consideration. If raw hp was the desire, she would have chosen another car; but this one fit the all around bill for her, plus gets us options to have some fun working with it and still keeping it affordable. I'd be interested to see what trd comes up with for add-ons that build more power, yet still keep us covered ( no reason they won't jump into the fray on this--they'd still like to get the sales ).
Heck, i'm just glad my wife enjoys her car ( she already had cosmetic/audio/exhaust upgrades done to her TC ) so i can have my toy and still goof around in hers once in awhile....
bass boat & tuner car.... can't wait for summer to hit... decisions decisions...
sorry for the ramblin' post; just an ol' gearhead still learning this stuff.

when i mentioned the bpv looking exactly like stock, i meant that it was good for the bosch 110 to look exactly alike, because other valves like the forge007 come in silver rather than black, and right now they don't have any-so i ended up getting a polished one rather than waiting weeks for the black one to come thru. not only that, but the forge black valve looks kinda shiny from pics i've seen of it, not the same dull black the bosche looks like. most service guys won't know the diff, but some will-two of the service guys from penn scion both have the trd sc and mod their cars, and also check forums for info. if they know, that means other people in their service dept know. they probably would never really give u a prob about changing the bpv, but they could if they felt like being jerkoffs about it. i care about the warranty-that was one of the main reasons in getting the sc, so just in case-i'd like to not deal with warranty bs for a lil bpv. when i go in for service i'm gonna change out the forge since it's silver.

Alright, I'm gonna do it...I'm gonna ask a stupid question...
What the heck is a BPV and what does it do?? And the numbers you're talking about (100, 102) what do those mean?? And...last question...how much does one of these upgrades cost??
I'm just trying to learn before the auto s/c comes out, I want to be a little knowledgeble, lol!!
