Ok I have been thinking about adding a supercharger or a turbo to my xb. Now, I'm not a mechanic, I'm learning as I go, I'm learning to install my own aftermarket parts here and there, I can change my own oil (though I rather just pay someone to do it for me when I get my lunch) and I can change my own brakes (see note above)
Now this car is my only car, I drive it every day, and I drive it VERY hard, <I have a led foot>.
So here is the question, for a daly driver car, owned by a guy like me... what would be the best choice? I want a boost in my car's preformace..
(BTW: I love the turbo sound...)

lol, keep it na until you have more knowledge. loving the "turbo sound" sholdnt be the reason why you want to go FI. even if it was, i would expect someone to have more knowledge on the subject.. "knowing how to change oil or brakes" has nothing to do with a FI setup.
so, again, for a guy like you, keep it the way you have it now until you know more about it. you could pay for someone to do it and know nothing about how it works or somethin like that... but i despise a person that does that. i mean, its understandable if someone pays for the install but knows exactly how things work and can pinpoint problems if they arise. but to just throw it on and think youll never have a worry in your life is just nonsense imo.
i hope youre not taking me coming off as rude, but im being serious with you and trying to prevent you from running into any unexpected problems in the future.
try www.howstuffworks.com and read the auto section. theres a section in there for turbos and superchargers.

Blitz has a supercharger kit, and I'm pretty sure most of the turbochargers are custom jobs. FI is a really touchy subject here, but that's mainly because people want to get crazy numbers from the 1NZ, and that's not going to happen. I don't have any plans to go FI with my xB, but I'm constantly trying to figure out whether a SC or TC would be the better choice. Typically, SCs are good for almost instant low-end power, and TCs are good for top-end, but you're going to have a small turbo on these engines if you go that direction, so it's not like there's going to be much lag, but with the small amount of exhaust volume produced, I'm not sure. Right now, I'm thinking a TC would be the best choice, because in higher gears there's not much power, like for passing maneuvers. Don't plan on making a drag queen, or something, because that's really not what these cars are about. A good 120 whp would be fun. SCs are usually cheaper than TCs, so that's another thing to consider.

I dont see the point of boosting XB. If you want more hp u should just trade it in for tC or something.

i like the style of my car and just needed alittle more power so thats why i went with the supercharger. If i wanted my car to look like every other car on the road then i would of gone with the tC.

If you want to go turbo, you'll have to build up the internals if you want more than 6 psi of boost. If you want to keep the internals stock, go w/ the Blitz or Power Enterprises setup for the SC.

Turbo all the way and dont be scared to creep up to about 8 psi AS LONG AS YOU ADDRESS FUEL/TIMING....you can be safe at occasional runs at 8psi if not 10psi as long as you have the proper tune. Hell, I have spiked out to 13 psi on my xB and have not had any problems but I think that all has to do with my return line and also the tune on my Camcon that I had.

so if i wanted boost, what kind of turbo would I need, and secondly, i wont have to do any internal work if I just keep it no more tahn 6psi?

I would go with a T20 or T25 series Garrett turbo...have somone make you a custom equal length manifold to sit on top instead of behind the firewall if you can...also if you keep stock internals then yea. run 6 psi daily.

i perfer a supercharger over a turbo. thats just me thought. At the numbers youd be running, its pretty much up to personal preference.
As for the comment about the tc....i agree, there arent many xa's around, and the other day a tc was messing around with me, and i stayed ahead of him, so there!

sorry noob question, what would having an equal length mani to sit on top instead of behind do?

It gets real hot between the firewall where the TSI kit is mounted because our exhaust manifold is in the back...I burnt off some of the padding on the firewall from the heat coming off the manifold and turbo.

Well, because I love my Xb... ALOT
I can get a TC, but at that point I would just get the new Civic or something and look like everyone else.
the XB has character that no other car seems to have, it stands out, and with the right mods looks badass...
I just want a little more power out of the engine, I'm not going to race, I just like driving fast.
