Default Does anyone know about the ZPI Racing Stage 1 head package?

Everyone loves to talk about their turbo or SC but what about the NA guys? Has anyone purchased the Stage 1 package from ZPI? I heard it gives like 30 hp, if that is the case then it's a real steal. It cost like $550 plus a core charge of $700 but you get that back so instead of paying 3k for 40 hp you can put down just $1300 and get most of that back and end up with a super reliable motor with a broad powerband. I guess that's the hope/hype. I am sure the guys with Turbos and SCs could also use this head but that's another story. So does anyone have any experience with this?

I haven't heard of anyone that bought it actually putting it on yet. Seems like everyone sells it before they get a chance. Surely there is at least one though.

Cause it looks like a PITA to install and cost a pretty penny to have it installed... everyone runs out of money....

We haven't sold a ton of these like we have other things.. and I think it's largely because of the labor required to install, like WeDriveScions said.

We should be installing a couple of these soon, maybe we can get some dyno pulls in..

If you want to make a trip down, we can probably cut you a good deal on the labor..

So what type of labor are we talking and how much? Could this be a do it yourself type job? Where are some of the dealers located? Anyone got a list? I live in AZ and was hoping one of the local shops can get it, that way I can have it done here and return the core quickly. Need to see the #s first though. What puzzels me is the turbo looks like a total PITA and people are doing that left and right.

If you haven't rebuilt an engine before, it's not a DIY. Not sayingyou couldn't learn, but the question you wanna ask is do I have the tools, downtime, patience, and technical background to understand and finish the job.

I'm hoping I won't be the first, but come Summer I will be doing the 11.1 piston swap, maybe a P+P and cams if they are available or plain feasable with funds. Tuned with a camcon, MMW header, K&N intake, CC full (hiFlo Cat, Borla). Dyno's and a writeup you can all expect.

Looks like a head install would run around 500+

Although, that's a rough guess...

Hondas are on the cheap side of the spectrum (lego sets) at ab 400, but from what I hear ours is a bit more labor, around 6-700. So if you guess around 550-600 you shouldnt be too shocked.

you would probably see more of these out there if they were complete heads so you could just swap them out but i understand they are trying to keep the price reasonable.

Agreed, not everybody has the means to swap cams/valves/etc.

Just an FYI, I'll be doing the P+P either with ZPI's (plus a cumbustion chamber polish) or a custom P+P in about a month. I'll make sure to post my rebuild photo's and remarks.

I plan on getting the head as soon as they throw in new cams/ gears, then I won't have to go back and replace the components a second time after the initial swap into the P+P'd head.

There's another company that's working on FI and NA cams that work with VVT-i. Look for some big updates in the next month or two.

Golden Eagle's cams too work with VVT-i.

Looks like cams are the next frontier for serious competition in the tC world. We can only hope.

BTW, this other company is looking to do a complete head job with valves and springs and the like.

You have to drop a name for this company putting out the cams!
