Default Stock xB exhaust - loud! + PICS

I rented a Camo/automatic xB for the evening (The only one they had). While driving on the freeway, I noticed that the stock exhaust was really loud to the point that it bothered me. I plan on getting a 5-speed and from past post I read the running at 70mph the rpms are at about 4000rpm. The automatic was running at 3000rpm. I can't imagine how loud the exhaust would be at 4000rpm.

Tell me this is not true. Tell me the exhaust is quieter this. I like a nice exhaust note, but this thing sounds like it is running without an exhaust at highway speeds.

How many miles on the rental?

My xB was horrifically loud at freeway speeds for the first 500 miles or so but got much, much quieter after that. Either that or I went partially deaf.

The only thing on my car at 80mph is that the tires are overriding everything. Poor quality tires but the exhaust was never a problem.

5-speed ... 4K rpm = 80mph.... stock kinda drones, nothing turning up the stereo doesn't fix... TRD has a loud drone from what I'm told .... you want quiet at highway speeds ... invest in a Precision Muffler axle back exaust ... Gabe will hook ya up ... I have one on my box and def. diggin it...

Got to be something wrong with this xB! Driving it home today I had one person stop me in a parking lot and a neighbor come over and say what is that??? I let both people check it out and get inside.

Personally, the room inside is awsome!!!

What were you driving before? This car is a little loud. You get used to it though, haha.

Does it affect gas mileage or have any other drawbacks? How much quieter?

These kind of noises are why they put in the bumpin' Pioneer setup. Crank it up!

Seriously tho, its not any louder than any car in this size and $ class, IMO. Maybe the one you got, someone drove it like a RENTAL CAR...

What are you comparing it to?

I am the first renter, but come to think of it, my bro-in-law put it through the paces during a lunch time test drive...and I mean through the paces!!!

My wife drives a 2000 Hyundia Accent, but it is much quieter in the freeway, but after coming back from dinner, I think her 2000 Accent is about to become a 2004 Auto xB!!! She pretty much told me to order two of them In june when they come available!!!. I my self drive a Saturn L200...much quieter...but can not wait till June now!!! The lease in the Saturn is up June and I will get my 5-speed xB in June. Just kinda worked out!

Pretty sure the Saturn is a lot quieter than the xB. I have a Sentra and it's quieter at 70-80 mph. Plus the RPM is a lot lower.

I have an auto, which system do I have Gabe? I love it, it sounds great! I havent been on the highway yet... but...somehow I doubt it is gonna bother me even if it is loud, considering that I just moved from stang gt with an offroad H-pipe (no cats) and dumped 2 chamber flowmasters...that thing was loud! Vert too! Just turn the music up!!!

whoa Doc! I thought you had the 5 speed! You have the one for the 5 speed scion, the automatic scion exhaust is still in the works. But if you like the sound, more power to you my friend. Enjoy it! :D

Hey Gabe,

Could you answer this question?

I would very much appreciate it.
