Default xB Rarity = high market resale value?

From unknown source, I heard that Toyota might temporarily stop production of the xB after a year or two. Then they might release a totally redesigned xB later on.

If this is true...

will our xB become a high value commodity in the used car market during the hiatus?

When I bought my xB the dealership had a used one on the lot from CA. The price on it was 21k. (It didn't have anything fancy on it either) He said that they will eventually not get anymore and then they could charge whatever for it becuase it is used. I was surprised. Maybe they will be worth something later.

21K? what did the "used" xB came with?

Back to the topic, well it all depends if Nissan and Honda brings their Boxes over. Since the Scion's are essentially a Toyota, there's that higher than average resale value. Head over to CarMax, your trade in well be much higher than most dealerships.

Well here's the deal ... if the xB gets discontinued all together then yes .... if it goes on a sabatical for a few years you better onload it then, cause when the redesign comes out watch for value to plummit ... for most of us, I think it'll be a car they hold on to even after our next car purchase. Obviously it's hard to say now if it'll go the way of the corvette and increase in value every year or if it'll go the way of the AE86 and not be worth a lot but will still have it's diehard core of owners and fans. Either way... I'm keepin my box

That sounds like a car they might have had shipped from cali and they are trying to recoop the s&h too

We have a Thunder Cloud Grey xB AT demo with TRD Sport Muffler , Illum. Cup holder, Geen Int. lights, floormats & cargo mat w/ 3500 miles for sale. Cost was high than what we are asking for it.

Toyota = high resale value period.

Check Edmunds.com and you'll see they ranked the xB as having one of the lowest cost to own of just about any car. TCO (True Cost to Own) factors in depreciation, maintenance etc over a 5 year period.

It's important to understand that. This is why a $9000 new Hyundai is NOT A GOOD DEAL. Sure, lower monthly payment. Then in 3-5 years when you sell it, it's worth as much as a new television, meanwhile any Toyota or Honda has 80% of it's original value.

Do the math and an xB winds up costing you $18k or something to own while a $9k Hyunday will cost you way more.

It's "rarity" won't have much of an effect and I seriously doubt the rumors about them ceasing production and redesigning it after one year. It doesn't make good business sense.

yes.. i agree that Toyota/Scion will maintain a high resale value. However, regarding the redesign of the xB... it is more than likely to happen. You have to realize that the xB or BB has been around since 1999 in Japan. That's already a 5 year production line...which is pretty long for a car model...usually it's about 4 years. Although the newly redesigned xB probably will not hit the U.S. shores till 2 ~ 3 years from now... i strongly think Toyota will be coming out with a new designed bB early next year or so for the Japanese Market. Eventually that model will hit the U.S.

It may not make good business sense to us current owners of the xB...but it makes sense to Toyota and potential buyers.

If they are selling as well as the dealers say, it is very unlikely that Toyota will discontinue them. Bad for profits!

One has to ask what the motivation of the "unknown source" is for creating this rumor.
