Are you joking?...there are literally hundreds of posts on here about header rasp. By removing the precat built into the header you are dramatically increasing exhaust flow. If you want to cut it down you will need to add a resonator but it may not eliminate it completely. Mine is a little raspy and I have the stock exhaust..yours must be ridiculous.

i know theres a lot of posts about header rasp but im just suprised about my combination of parts....especially with the greddy exhaust...how could da header make that exhaust sound so bad?? if i flore it....it sounds good till 3k rpms...from 3k to 4.5k....its ricerrrrr....den after 4.5k it sounds great. would it make a difference if i switch to dc headers? im thinkin it might just be alphawerks

Try the CC exhaust inserts.

Thats just the rasp point of the engine it seems. Mine is raspy around 3500-4500. A larger resonator is supposed to help out a lot.

has anyone ever heard of dc headers sounding raspy? cause im hearing a lotttt about alphawerks being known for rasp now

DC Sports header is the stock header basically same pipe diameter. The only difference is the removed cat...

It causes some rasp as well..people with the Megan racing header claim little to no rasp and the MMW header is also not known to rasp although it is way more expensive than anything else.

damn this sucks so bad.....any one find a solution yet??

As of now the solution is to add a larger resonator

I had the same awhile ago. The greddy evo2 system wasnt design to handle the air flow from an aftermarket header. I got a bigger resonater, but that didnt help much. so i bought a HKS exhaust and it fix the problem. Try searching my posts.

I have the solution to the header rasp problem right here, Precisionmuffler.com has a special on our axle backs for the tC. Our axle back keeps your exhaust system at a low note and deep tone with your header on!! We have the axle back to solve the rasp problem right here!! We installed our axle back on a tC with the MMW race header and found that the sound was deep and helped get that raspy sound away. Check them out here at www.Precisionmuffler.com

anyone with precision and alphawerks yet?

It's true that the megan header has no rasp. I sold my used greddy evo2 and installed it on the customer's car with an megan header and supercharger. The tone was nice, quiet and deep.

hmmm. does anyone else have the megan header with trd exhaust or something similar?

damn this sucks so bad.....i guess im looking at changing either my exhaust or header....sounds like theres no real way to get around this, and from what im hearing a larger resonator doesnt do much.

I have the megan header, which will be equivilent rasp wise with any of the others and run the precision axleback with no rasp.... and love it....

Best Header friendly muffler setup out there.... you can even listen to it in my sound thread!

WeDriveScions, has it on his tC and has a sound clip also. :D

DC Sports header is the stock header basically same pipe diameter. The only difference is the removed cat...

not sure if you have actually seen the dc header very different from the stock manifold if anything the megan looks more like the factory manifold.... all the pipes are similar, looks like they just cut-off the cat and welded a downpipe on it

Similiar???

Doesn't look that way to me? LoL

You missed the "Same pipe diameter", I didnt mean similar looks/design...besides the cat delete. :lalala:

I have read that the alphaworks is bad for rasp on another site. The post said the rasp was from the header pipes being to close and vibrating against each other. The solution was to weld them togather or maybe wrap the header. You might want to contact alphaworks about it too. Don't know if the guy got the prob. fixed havn't been on that site for a while. I think it was on Your Scion TC.com hope this helps.

Unfortunately, you get rasp with the DC Sports and Megan Racing headers as well... the alphawerks gets an additional problem on some of the headers due to that problem... but not all of them...

The Rasp is really a No-More-PreCat Problem than anything else... the trick is finding a muffler setup that keeps it quiet... and there are only a select few unfortunately.

the solution is simple WRAP YOUR HEADER SO THE PIPES WONT VVIIIBBRRRATTTE TOGETHER and amplified by the rest of the exhaust sys. let me know if this is a fix.

The solution is the CC exhaust inserts....

Beantowntc
12-25-2005, 02:43 PM
Hks also makes exhaust inserts for their exhaust it supposedly can silence up too 7db

Thats for the muffler itself, the CC exhaust inserts are welded into your exhaust piping.

Do you know if the cc insert hurt's performance?

Look at the bottom of the page, the test on the 383 chevy, they gained hp by adding the inserts... Dont know how much the tC will see, but it should deff, quite it down. Hell it can quite a 383 open header chevy, it can silence us....
