View Full Version : injen intake install... is it easy? supitsmark 04-17-2004, 07:46 PM i was thinking about getting one but since i am in no way mechanically inclined, i had to ask. is it easy? BlueScionXB 04-17-2004, 08:19 PM Ya it is easy, if you have any questions talk to ikonXone, Sam, about the install...he recently put his on... its_ikon 04-17-2004, 09:19 PM this is by the easiest intake i have installed. took me about 30 mins to do the install. F.Y.I. You have to open the airbox to take out 3 bolts. Scionic 04-17-2004, 09:23 PM yup.....it takes longer to get the stock airbox out in then to actually do the install on the intake. supitsmark 04-17-2004, 09:46 PM does installing the intake void toyota's warranty? XBman 04-17-2004, 10:06 PM No it doesnt void the warrenty. Great buy for the cash. The installation is easy... its_ikon 04-17-2004, 10:26 PM does installing the intake void toyota's warranty? as for voiding warranty, check out these threads http://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4746&highlight=voiding+warranty http://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2512&highlight=voiding+warranty http://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8789&highlight=void+warranty http://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6421&highlight=void+warranty http://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3753&highlight=warranty Leinad 04-18-2004, 03:25 AM i've heard that some of the intakes will not pass cali smog checks. is this true with the injen intake? mitchell 04-18-2004, 03:37 AM Very easy Install it yourself. More fun its_ikon 04-18-2004, 04:13 AM i've heard that some of the intakes will not pass cali smog checks. is this true with the injen intake? all injen intakes are carb'd approve so you don't have to worry about it. although the scion ones might be in the process still. supitsmark 04-18-2004, 09:01 PM thanks for the replies guys. Alter_Ego 04-29-2004, 06:44 AM Take the battery all the way out of the car and things will be much easier. unlmtdndeavor 04-29-2004, 11:58 PM at least we dont have to remove the bumper like wen i did a cold air on a civic Alter_Ego 05-04-2004, 05:57 AM haven't had the bumper off the xb but I've done tons of civic intakes and the bumper can be taken off in under 5 minutes on most. V2 intakes are a new deal for most people since you have to replace a motor mount. After that the xb is cake. gogol13 05-10-2004, 05:55 PM I installed the Injen Intake this weekend. It took me about 1.5 hours to install. I only had one issue, the diameter of the vacuum hose in the kit was a little too large. I would also recommend removing the battery, as I had difficulty when this was in the engine bay and also removing the engine cover. This make removeing the stock vacuum hose much easier. If you need info on removing the stock intake, look at the K&N Typhoon instructions. These helped me out a great deal. prefect 05-10-2004, 06:08 PM I also installed an injen intake this weekend. It was my first mod on the Xb and it only took about 25 minutes. The Xb is the easiest car to work on that I have yet encountered. I would recommend taking out the battery and removing the eninge cover first as well. I was also pretty pleased with the power increase. It actually helps the box get up hills better . -charles bBist 05-10-2004, 06:27 PM Very easy to install. If you need any other info i'm always up to help anyone out too. -Steve (626)215-1515 xbchance 05-11-2004, 08:14 PM i was thinking about getting one but since i am in no way mechanically inclined, i had to ask. is it easy? Super easy to install. Did it this past weekend. Check this: I have never installed anything on a car, other than a stereo, and even that I don't do anymore. I checked Scion Life for tips and tricks, PM'd Sam for any suggestions and away I went. Didn't make a single mistake, didn't have a single problem. Install took an hour because I was so unfamiliar with engine's parts, I really doublechecked everything against the pics in the installation instructions. The funniest thing is it took me a couple a few minutes to really take the entire stock airbox out because it just looked like I was taking out SO MUCH than I should. ha.. I could easily do it in 30 minutes now that I am familiar with the pieces. Suggestions, also mentioned on this site elsewhere: •Remove the battery first [there's a post with specific instructions on this even if you're a little unsure] •Removing engine cover does help. •The stock airbox is really big and goofy looking and yes, you do take the whole thing out, not just the hoses that attached to it! •Make sure you have all the pieces in the package before beginning; another poster was missing a few. I was fine. One last thing: you are going to LOVE how this thing sounds between 2nd and 3rd gear (if you stomp on the gas). It growls! I was laughing my ___ off. It was funny and cool at the same time. Really, beginning in 2nd, the engine just responds differently; you can almost hear it taking a deep breath. As if it had asthma before. Too much fun. Finally, thanks to Sam and everyone else for their tips. Much appreciated. Happy installing! HotBox 05-25-2004, 04:10 AM man i just finsihed installing my new INJEN CAI right now... easy my ___!!! this is just me and my opinion but, this was the hardest intake ive ever installed up to date. hondas are so much easier. i started around 6 or 7 and finsihed at around 10 10 something (i never really time myself with any install) one of the big draw backs that really kept me from finsihing quicker was taking out the battery and putting it back in. i dont not like to touch the terminals cause i am scared of them i know they dont shock you unless you touch something metal with them or whatever but still i dont not like to touch them. so i waited for someone to come home which took about 45 mins and finally got the battery off. i was so fustrated with trying to get the damn stock air box off when it came time to take off the sensors i said hell with it and starting cutting them (not the actual sensor but the black plastic that was holding it) it took 3 of us tagg teaming it. after we finally got it on and put the bumper back on i had some botls left and said hell with these and threw them in the cup holders and took off to see if it made a difference. this is where all the fustration really goes away. me and my friend hop in to see if we can actually tell if it made a difference or not. well the car feels alot smoother now while at full throttle and actually picks up quicker rather than struggle. (i have an auto) i can actually get to 80 with ease. at around 53 54 to redline my DC exhuast starts to sound kind of ugly. not sure how it sound from the outside tho i have yet to let someone else drive it while i listen since i just out it on IMO its a _____ to install but worth it in the end supitsmark 05-26-2004, 08:51 AM man i just finsihed installing my new INJEN CAI right now... actually, we were talking about the short ram. HotBox 05-26-2004, 12:53 PM i dont think that was ever stated in any of the post above oh well now you have an opinion on a CAI pampadori 06-16-2004, 04:43 PM i just installed my injen RD CAI last night. about 40 minutes. not too bad. i don't like the battery mount idea. but i guess thats the only place for the bracket. right now i'm running it in "short ram" mode. nice sound. maybe a little more power. i can't really guage how much power. maybe 3-5hp with the short ram portion only. i wanted to drive it like this for a week or two, then as a cai and compare the difference. http://www.jgycustoms.com/scion/images/injen.jpg there is a picture of the one i installed. not sure what everyone else is using. i guess the IS injen intake??? Shaun AKgoalie7 06-16-2004, 05:03 PM i just installed my injen RD CAI last night. about 40 minutes. not too bad. i don't like the battery mount idea. but i guess thats the only place for the bracket. right now i'm running it in "short ram" mode. nice sound. maybe a little more power. i can't really guage how much power. maybe 3-5hp with the short ram portion only. i wanted to drive it like this for a week or two, then as a cai and compare the difference. http://www.jgycustoms.com/scion/images/injen.jpg there is a picture of the one i installed. not sure what everyone else is using. i guess the IS injen intake??? Shaun did you have to remove the strut bar or bumper to install this? Others have told me they had to.. which is a turnoff to me.... let me know how the install was plz... BlueScionXB 06-16-2004, 05:08 PM Yes, to intall the Injen RD CAI, which is what I have, I had to remove my strut bar and take my bumper off to put the filter on. It is very simple and only took me about 40 minutes to do...and the end result is really worth it... :D pampadori 06-17-2004, 01:38 PM i didn't have to remove my bumper. and i don't have a strut bar. you slid the filter in from under the car and removed the fog light cover to access the clamp. Shaun Cruise_Control 06-21-2004, 01:34 PM word has it around that the CAI is a no no on the scion xB's, one puddle u go through might be your last for some time! and it adds less HP than short ram, costs more and a way larger mess puttin it in! When i installed my injen short ram 2 weeks ago first of all i got it for $150 shipped 2 days, it was super easy to instal with out the removal of the battery. take the stock box and tubes out, take the engine cover offput it all in Exept for the filter, secure everything and insert the filter up under the bumper haver some one hold it, make shure the clamp is over the filter, have someone hold it and secure it...gravy note: its nice to work on a COLD engine, i did mine when it was super hot..lol oh well and the sensor WILL be tight, dont worry about it. ok by the way im andrew and i was the first customer to get a scion in the state of wisconsin that isnt a dealer! |
