View Full Version : ZPIracing Motor Mounts **special**

ZPIracing
12-12-2005, 09:02 PM
ZPIracing is proud to announce the Pre-release of there now motor mount kit for the Scion tC. These will be a full polyurethane mount insert that will result in 75% less travel of the engine under acceleration. Keeping it polyurethane also will allow the mount to absorb the vibration at idle to keep the cabin rattle free.

This is a must have for you turbo and supercharged cars while great results will be seen in the N/A cars with bolt on modifications to stock platforms. This will eliminate the dreaded tire hope that is commonly found in the tC platform.

We said that we where not going to do a pre-order after the turbo kits but we found ourselves in a position where we need to. We had to order an initial 1000 mounts to have these made to our design. So to make sure that we are not stuck with all of these at time of arrival we will make some pre-order pricing to help take some of the excessive inventory right off the bat.

We are promised delivery January 15th so we are going to promise delivery to you February 15th as we see no reason as to why there will be any delay but nothing exceeding 30 days. All of these will ship together no batches as we will take delivery on them at one time.

We will offer these at a pre-order price of $95 and a retail price of $165.00

What's the hardness on these? RAAMaudio went aroun 80+ poly on his front and had some major vibrations.,,, I'm interested, as I was going to mold myself some... as I hate hop...

What Shore A Hardness is the poly?

Thanks, Interesting and about time they came out.... no more dampeners.... fix it the right way!

So what are the pros and cons of using motor mounts versus an engine dampner? If both eliminate hop and engine movement, is the main difference that motor mounts are more permanent?

WeDriveScions
12-13-2005, 01:57 AM
It's about where the weight is and how the engine moves on it's pivot points... the dampener fixes with problem of the wimpy oem mounts, the mounts fix the real problem... the mounts themselves.

Not the real stock one but a motor mount:

I'm pretty new to this so does this actually compliment a dampner or replace the need for a dampner altogether?

rcruz2525

Well the motor mounts are design to suppress engine vibrations. That is why you don’t feel the engine inside the car. By adding a damper you will be helping the stock motor mounts. This is a good thing, now went the engine generates more power (turbo, s/c) and usually people add a superior clutch and/or pressure plate, the motor vibrations become stronger or the motor will jerk to the point that can cause what is call engine hope or tire hope and will actually destroy the stock motor mounts with in time. That is why the damper was invented and it is the easies way to reduce motor vibrations but is not the best way. The best way will be by replacing the motor mount like the one ZPIracing is selling. The only think to take in consideration is the material in which the mounts are made off, some are so hard that the vibrations inside the car become uncomfortable and are not desirable at all. Also remember that most cars have 4 motor mount and the motor jerk from one site the other. I hope this can help.

How easy is an install?

No good if' they are $95 to buy but need the entire engine lifting and will cost $600 to install.

Also, what are the downsides? What parts 'could' this cause to fail (according to Toyota in 2 years that is?)

Typhoon
12-13-2005, 07:34 PM
Install it yourself, we ve installed mounts on 2 cars not hard at all, we did have to lift the engine but thats no biggie. Good job to zpi btw I trust zpi more and more after they keep releasing products for the tc.

Lifting the engine is no biggie? Scale of 10, 10 being a clutch change, 1 being an oil change.

IAmTheProdigy

So not to beat a dead horse, but if I purchase these in addition to my engine dampner, that would be a little overkill? And like Limey asked, what are the downsides?

We do not have pics of the final product...We will not have pics of these until we get the shipment in with the ones that we are selling.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REMOVE THE ENGINE TO INSTALL THESE

These will install very easy. You can remove one mount at a time and switch the mounts and move on to the next one. These should install in under 1 hour.

Thanks

i did these in my focus. i didnt have to remove the engine, just place a floor jack under it so once the mount is off the engine stays in the same position making it easier when you reinstall

would you want to install the damper? .....then engine was designed to move.... thats why it does..... the new mounts sound like a good idea but wouldnt installing the damper also be a bad thing?

Typhoon
12-15-2005, 01:46 AM
I didnt mean take the engine out I just meant we had to place a jack and lift the engine a litle higher very little not too hard. Plus if what zpi says its true ( idont see why it wouldnt be) you just have to put something under the engine so it wouldnt move when the mounts are taken out then the new ones in sounds about the same as what we had to do, really guys if you can change your oil install an intake you should be able to do this not much harder.

one is a tranny mount, i think the motor mounts are front and back. 2 of em.

The front one may be bolted to the tranny, but since the tranny is bolted to the engine, it really doesnt matter. The rubber "insulators" are on the sides, one left, one right, and the third is in the front, if you are standing in front of the car, looking at the engine, the front one is to the right of the header/exhaust manifold. Kinda hidden from view from underneith by the crossmember its sitting ontop of.

12-24-2005, 10:32 PM
how many mounts do the tC have? 3??? the back mount of the engine causes the most vibration to the cabin. i dont think adding just the front ones will cause vibration, though you gotta get your moneys worth.

i doubt adding mounts and torque damper together would hurt your car. but im pretty sure you can feel the pull when you shift...

these mounts are really good especially for FI tC's, it would make a huge difference probably if you add the torque damper too... but mounts NA tC's would perform the same as damper, and together just improves slightly.

IMO, id rather get mounts than damper....

ZPI gots it for 99 bucks for pre-order? thats a deal..

Hrmm.. double checking the pdf file I have, looks like you may be right, its odd, the way they have you remove the engine from the vehicle, is after you disconnect everything, you unbolt the cross members and drop the engine/transaxle down with the crossmembers still attached. then remove the crossmembers from the engine/transaxle. I overlooked the step that says to remove the RR insulator, which I guess is the rear one.

HawkINX4
12-25-2005, 03:01 AM
that makes sense... the mounts on the front and the back of the motor should be on the cross member... the back one is bigger then the front one.. the front one is ther to stop the motor for rocking back and forth.. the third is on the side where the tranny is, thats pretty big as well.. then you get the big mount on the side and you can see it when you open the hood, its by the head

Yes they gotta be pressed in, ZPI mention'd that already. Just take em to a local shop that has a press, shouldnt be that expensive.

Or buy mounts from a salvage yard, and press em in ahead of time, to save some hassle.

Dear ZPIracing Customers,

I know that you all have been patiently awaiting the release of our highly anticipated motor mount upgrades. As you all are very aware that after the initial design we do not do much in the manufacturing arena and we sub this out to some of the best in the business.

We got our first set of test mounts in early January and they where off a little but the overall quality was there. This is as to be expected as we have had these guys make mounts for us before. We then noted the changes re-designed the schematic and sent them back. We anticipated a great product and continued the pre-order discount. We then in the first of February got a large shipment of the mounts in and they appeared to be correct, we test fit them on one of our project tC and they did not fit any where near our standards. We have made the correct changes and are hoping have these back in stock very shortly.

We thought we would offer you some options for our great customers who continue to support ZPIracing and all that we do. We understand that you have been without the money for some time and that you are entitled to something. We will also be including some free apparel upon shipment of these as well including but not limited to t-shirts, hats, decals, pens, etc.!

1. Continue to show you support and wait for us to deliver you the product at the quality that you would expect from ZPIracing. We will give you 10% off your next order for your patience.

2. If you no longer want to wait we understand and there is no hard feelings we will refund your money and apologize for not making the deadline we set forth for ourselves.

Thanks again for the continual support all of you show us. We greatly appreciate it and we will continue to bring you the products that you want at a price you can live with. We are forever grateful of the Scion community and all they have allowed us to do.

To Whom It May Concern:

I know a lot of you have been awaiting the release of our motor mounts for awhile now and that we have not been the best at sending these updates. With the shootout the shop has been crazy and I apologize for that. We have been working diligently on the mounts trying to remedy the problems that continue to arise.

We have been getting our samples in from the factory and they continue to not fit to our likings. It seems the polyurethane takes on a mind of its own whenever we have it cut small enough to fill the mounts. We have started to look in another direction that would increase the overall price but offer a much nicer mount.

The new mounts that we started developing last week will be an entire mount replacement not just an insert. The new mounts will be billet housing with a poly center section very similar to the motor mount kits for popular Honda swaps. We will have the design down by the end of this week and will have the drawing sent over to the factory and get a prototype one done for you all to see pictures etc… and for us to test fit the product.

The retail pricing of the new mounts will go more toward the $400 dollar range. We will give every motor mount order that is still pending pre-order or not the mounts for the price already paid. I apologize for the wait again I know it is hard to wait for something that you want and I had no intentions of it taking so long I just can’t ship something I am not happy with. The guys in the shop continue to bust ___ in attempt to get the parts out and I am personally very grateful for the support and business that you all continue to show us. For this I simply say Thank You.

as far as i know - they are redoing the mounts and any new people are going to have to wait for now. I would give it a few weeks and give them a call and see what they say. Anything before then is going to be a waste of time because I just informed u of the latest news (which was emailed to me because I am on the preorder for the original mounts)

$400 for these types of motor mounts isn't that bad..

They're very close to the same price for various other cars.

My friend purchased some motor mounts for his GTi VR6 a few months back and it came to $550..

who told you that wasnt the story. I copied and pasted the email -- maybe I need to find it and give them a call myself. I emailed them and also spoke to the only woman on AIM ..... I didn't get an email back either time. When I spoke to her on AIM there was a meeting going on or something so she said she would email me tomorrow. Then I emailed zpi asking for a reply ....no reply. What really is going on here? Sounds like its nothing but a stall.

after the sending of the update that they did not like the design that they were sent and were having problems putting it in, they said it was sent back for a better design. that design was sent back again because of the same problem. zpi has now recived a model that fits and they like, will be developing after that everyone who prepaid was sent an email about the new billet style that was going to be used, and that there was no eta for it.

The tC motor mounts are not a dead project we are actually developing a complete billet replacement mount that will be a complete exchange for the existing mount. The customers whom have a deposit on the polyurethane inserts in which we initially developed but in the end where unhappy with the end result will get the bill replacement mounts at no additional cost.

The new mounts will retail somewhere in the $399 range. We are expecting some sample sets to go out to some of the first customers who ordered and stuck it out with us sometime in late august. We will refund the preorder price to anyone who has the inserts on order if they no longer want to wait without hesitation.

Agreed, Billet mounts are overkill for 80 percent of the people that need/want them anyway. Inserts would work perfectly.
