Methinks you don't know how to calculate your mileage figures.

Well, the workers at the factory come in on Monday. They are still in "weekend" mode. They usually have the case of the "Mondaze." This means the cars they make are sub par. Tuesday cars are gradually better. Wednesday cars, they are perfect. This is because the workers don't have Mondaze nor are they anxious about their weekend. Thursday cars (on par with Tuesday cars) are gradually worse than Wednesday cars. Friday cars just suck, because the workers are rushing to get done so they can go home for the weekend...

so yes, you have a Wednesday car :D

also..it's just a saying...

Between fill-ups, did you use the same gas station?

In some cases, I find that fill-up amounts vary among gas stations which might skew the perceived fullness of your gas tank. Also, EPA's rating is 38 MPG for the highway, so your mileage is possible.

For me, I'm averaging 28 MPG.

Why r u fingure at 7.8..... the gas tank is 11.9 not 7.8 gal........ that mean u get about 25mpg.

i think what cybergypsy meant is the trip computer read 300 miles when she filled up... and when she filled up she only needed 7.8 gallons of gas...

I don't know about your car but mine get's full with 11.05 so far. Of corse it is supose to be 11.5, but the rest would be kind of like a reserve. This last week I made 372miles with the 11.05, so I think was perfect comparing with other week with 327 and so. By the way I race every body every other day on ma way to work:D

i got my first 30mpg tank last week. I've put over 8000 miles on it and usually got around 26. i put the ground wire kit on, and now i get around 30!

drivin mostly roads... some tanks are full highway mileage, most are a mix, but leaning towards mostly road mileage. first 1000 miles or so were around 26/g, then it started rising slowly, best tank ever was 35, average now for the last few tanks has been 31-32. highway speeds are around 75-80mph on average, road driving is with constant shifting. total mileage a little over 4000 now. very happy with the results so far; the scion continuously doing its part to help out the budget in these times of (relatively) high gas prices. :)

I consistently get 32-34 MPG doing a mix of city/highway driving. It goes up to 36+ MPG if I do a long road trip, so I don't think the claim of 37.5 is too outlandish. Keep in mind that your mileage is impacted more by your driving style than what gas station you use - some of us just drive like grannies :)

I'm getting about 33 in a mix of City/High driving.

Filled my tank 3.3 gallons from Sonoco and my Odo read 111 mi.

It's all stock though and 2 days old.

Have you made any changes to your vehicle? You know, like taking out the back and passanger seats :)

I'm curious if your model is still stock or if you've made some small improvments.

CRAP!
I just put 17's on the BOX, and I immediately got crappy gas milage!
The car also pulls to the right now.. They look good, but are they worth it.. I'll give them another coulple of weeks and an oil change to figure it out.. Ive had this car for 9 days now and already have 1500+miles on it! I'm already wearing out my seat & carpet!!

I had 36 MPG the weekend I brought my xB home. It has gone down down to around 30 because I don't drive slow enough for the high MPG.

It just hit struck me that the motorcycle I used to have, Kaw Ninja ZX-9R, had more HP than my xB and got 46 MPG.

Not that it matters, but 1/2 fuel capacity as indicated by the guages is seldom 1/2 of a tank.

Also, if you are doing 50-80 in the city, then that's not really city driving is it? Stop and go, 0-35-0, 0-50-0... that's defined as city driving. I believe your city just has "freeway" driving conditions- remember it is not rated by the road type, but by driving conditions.

City driving can occur on freeways, and viceversa.

Are you all driving sticks?
Mine is an AUTO..
and even with STOCK wheels, it took 2.5 tanks to drive from ATL to STL.. That should have taken me less than 2 tanks. I had a 150mile break-in period for the car before I put it on the road too.

What gives..

I'm using the cheap gas.. only mod is 17inch BSA's. I got about 235 miles on the highway before I had to fill up again. The trip I took is only 262 miles. My 3000GT can do it on 3/4 tank (it holds 16gallons, but if you think about it.. it 's getting the same mileage) I set the cruize (on the BOXX) at 75-80 mph. no AC on..

Anything you guys know I can do ( I tried slowing down.. 65mph - was in the same rpm band and no noticeable difference) to help out my mileage??? I already tried turning off the traction control -- nothing.

Finally, at cruise 75-80mph, I'm at 32-3300rpm
P.S. The cruise control is stock -- I bought it in a state that offers it..

getting around 28 from my auto/XA. i do about 60/40 highway/city and am rather disapointed my the millage numbers. for such a weak engine, you would think it would, at least, get some better numbers.

sushi_head
05-22-2004, 12:53 AM
I filled my tank and waited for it to get down to about half so I can record mi/gal.

Last night I put in 4.4-4.5 gallons of gas and got 159 mi out of that.

That's close to about 35-39 mi/gal.

My driving is a mix of city/hwy, more hwy than city.

I'm a concervative driver though.

I wonder if my mi/gal will drop in a month as my car "learns" how I drive.

I was able to drive 300 miles on one tank then my low fuel light turned on. After the light turned on I only drove it 7 miles

05-31-2004, 02:12 PM
how are you all measuring mpg? ive learned with my civic that the gas gauge is anything but that. ill be driving along with half a tank and a few minutes later ill be closer to 3/4 tank... but wait... i didnt stop for gas :p

best way to measure gas mileage down to the decimal is reset the trip meter after filling up all the way. next time you visit the gas station... take note of your mileage and how much it takes to fill up... thats how much gas youve used! :o
from there on its just math.

forgive me if you already know this but some people need it spelled out... and thats okay ;)

05-31-2004, 02:23 PM
thats what most of us have been doing.....we are not stupid...just wondering why so much diffrance i was getting 37.5 for the first 2 fill up now it has dropped..for no reason :(

Ohh yeah... I just got my xA. It`s manual, so I`ll do some testing. That is if I remember to pay attention... I`m curious to see if manual gets better mileage rather than automatic. I know sometimes they do.

I'm now getting about 34 average.

I would judge that 80% of my driving is highway vs city.

I'm still trying to get my shifting smoother though, I still feel a jump when I shift gears.

Does anyone know if the Grounding Kits would help in MPG?

These are the results from my last two fillups on my 04 Xa (Manual)

6/27
Miles: 216.6
Gallons used: 8.157
MPG: 26.55

6/28
Miles: 194.5
Gallons used: 6.832
MPG: 28.47

I drive quite a lot and sometimes between the 90 -115 mph range (mostly freeway) so I guess thats why mine are under 30

consumer reports's xA data suggest that it has an excellent 32 mpg overall and 39 mpg on a 150 mile road trip. i guess xA should be a pretty good gas saver.
