View Full Version : Precision axelback or Strup?
Peter_Rabbit 12-14-2005, 08:50 PM Well for xmas my gf said she will buy me an exhaust.I was gonna get the Precision Muffler axelback for $240 but now Strup axelback is on sale for $250. I dont like ricy sound and dont want it too loud. Anybody have any opinions to help me choose?
Thanx
RTon20s 12-14-2005, 10:52 PM First, let me qualify this with the fact that I do not own either.
Everything I have seen regarding axle back exhaust systems on the xB and performance says that they all perform about the same. There really isn't a whole lot to be gained performance wise with an axle-back alone.
That being said, I would spend the extra $10 on the Strup over the Precision system. Mostly because the added features you get with the Strup vs. the Precision axle-back. The Strup is full stainless construction and mandrel bent. The Precision uses mild steel tubing and uses standard bends. You can get a similar exhaust bent up and installed at a local muffler shop for under $200.
This isn't to say that either company is better to deal with than the other. From what I have seen on these forums, both are great, respectable companies.
Bottom line though... with the price so close, choose the one YOU like best.
i had the greddy evo 2 and i loved it not rice at all but it is also and extra 70 bucks than what you are alredy lookin at but that is my $.02 and it fills that cut out mighty nice

Netobox 12-15-2005, 06:04 AM I have owned the Precision axle-back for nearly a year and a half. The sound is low and deep on take-off and varies as you speed up depending on how much you press the gas pedal. The best part though, at freeway speeds, the noise is close to stock level. It doesn't invade the passenger compartment with overwhelming noise. Now... that's the reason why I bought it! I am pretty happy with it. :D
Nozerider 12-17-2005, 01:19 AM Topic creator- where'd you find a Strup that cheap?
Reason is, I'm finally able to order an exhaust tonight, and was going to go with the precision muffler, but an above poster brought up a point a didn't notice, about the Strup having mandrel bends and full stainless.

Minttoast 12-17-2005, 03:48 AM Strup without a doubt. I own v.1 and I wouldnt have gone any other way. It's sound is perfect not at all ricey and it looks amazing.
Just my 2 cents
Good luck whichever way you go.
FrankenScion 12-17-2005, 03:51 AM I had the vs. 1 and switched to vs 2 when it came out for better ground clearance. (I got the first one off the line. :) )
Half my club is rolling with Strup. :D

LeonDaCleaner 12-21-2005, 04:57 AM I went w/strup v.2 from partshippers about 2 mths ago. they have a great deal on them right now. great service so I bought the headers on sunday arrived today.
squirrel 12-21-2005, 05:10 AM Jeff (Lip) is a site sponsor, and works and/or owns Partshippers. He's come up w/ some good stuff for Scions.
Jeff is very knowledgable on the xB also.
(I'm sure someone will post contradictory info, always have, always will.)
1epoXyBox 12-21-2005, 05:40 AM I went with the PrecisionMuffler axleback and love it, but I didn't get the xmas special...boohoo. It fits like a glove, easy to install, sounds and looks great. Fast shipping too!! Thanks Gabe!
Maguyver 12-21-2005, 01:12 PM I have the strup axle back with strup headers and im really happy with the sound and the little bit of hp gain I got was noticeable id recomend the srtup
ScionSniper 12-21-2005, 07:00 PM I've been running the P-muffler axle backs since they first came out and loved them, I've tested quite a few for Gabe. Now I have the first known passanger side exiting exhaust and I love it!

2fixA 12-21-2005, 07:06 PM I haven't personally dealt with the distributor for Strup, but I have dealt with Precision Muffler and Gabe.
I can say he'll work with you on what you need and how you need it, and if you have any questions or just wonder about something he'll be more than happy to answer for you. He's been onboard supplying Scions since August of 2003 and knows them really well. As for a ricey sound, there are no worries of that with an exhaust from Precision Muffler, they are each designed for the application to make sure it sounds good (automatice/manual, etc).
I'm sure there are good and bad reviews of any piece of hardware for sale on here, but if you're looking for service I know Gabe can deliver on it.

Peter_Rabbit 12-22-2005, 07:37 PM For those who asked where i saw the strup axelback for 250 , it was partshippers.
Sciond 12-25-2005, 05:14 AM I like my precision exhaust.....it never scrapes or ubs and was an easy install
TheScionicMan 12-25-2005, 09:49 PM I love the PrecisionMuffler.com axleback for the Auto tranny. It looks like an aftermarket exhaust without looking like EVERY other exhaust out there. I don't really care for the round canister look plus I hear they are more prone to droning sounds especially at freeway speeds. Mine sounds pretty good at cruising speeds and great on acceleration and especially on a downshift to 2nd.
And I can get into my driveway without scraping the thing. David, you'd have to park on the street or scrape like crazy...
