View Full Version : Changing the Transmissions
XBman 04-19-2004, 03:14 AM Hey all,
Hey i was wondering. Does anyone think that a dealer can change out a transmission in a XB? how much would it cost if possible. if anyone could help it would be grand
Low_N_Slow 04-19-2004, 03:23 AM it would be costly...... They have to drop the old tranny, 300, buy a new one, 1200?, put the new one in 300, replace linkage..... it adds up....
XBman 04-19-2004, 03:25 AM so like 1800? sorry but i really want someone who has had this done or knows how to do it.... not a newbie...

Yo Dave, chill bro. I don't think I have seen anyone that has done that yet. Best bet, call your dealer monday morning. I would say though you may want figure that an ecu change may be involved amongst other electrical items.
SoCalbBox 04-19-2004, 03:31 AM You'd be better off buying the xB with the trans you want. Dealer rates will kill you.

so your sayin itll be mucho moola ( alota money).... dang b/c i got a xb with an auto and i want a manual in it to get more power from the engine....yeah well anyway ill ask the dealer tommarrow. thanks
Low_N_Slow 04-19-2004, 03:55 AM newbie to forum yes... but to cars...no...
I have completed many tranny changes myself in foiegn and domestics. If the xB was a rear wheel drive you would be lookin at around 1800, fwd however involes alot more work so would be in 2k to 3k range.

this is really an ___ backards way of doing things. you could have gotten a auto xb for like 600-800 more i forget b/c i don't drive autos. however if you bought it used you will still end up paying more for the tranny change than if you would have bought the xb and auto option new. stick with the auto its not gonna give you enough xtra power to be worth the trouble. you could do the blitz s.c. for a few hundred more and receive real h.p. gains. just my 2 cents bro.
why didn't you get the tranny you wanted? Was there a credit problem or just tired of what you got? I wish it was easier to swap them out, but you also have to take in consideration the speed sensors and the ECU. Sometimes they are different 8)
MicroMachine04 04-19-2004, 03:02 PM It's not that much more power. Just stick with what you've got.
bBted 04-19-2004, 03:10 PM go to junk yard to look for xb tranny...
Mr_scion 04-19-2004, 09:03 PM u would be better off trading it in for a new one with a 5 spd
XBman 04-19-2004, 09:56 PM go to junk yard to look for xb tranny... dude as it stands there arnt any xb's in the junkyard! Also i got 1 of the 1st ones and all they had was auto!!! i didnt want to wait like 7 frikin months for a stupid manual tranny! but maybe i should have waited!
tbblizzard 04-19-2004, 10:01 PM probably should just swap all your stuff out back to stock and ask them to trade it in for a manual... you will lose money, but will save you the headache of knowing whether or not it will work properly and the cost of the tranny swap. after you get the new one just put all your stuff back on. simple fix for it.
