View Full Version : Mute button doesn't pause CD
Spect2K3 12-16-2005, 03:41 PM Now what is going on with this? Everytime my cell phone rings or for whatever reason I mute my stereo while listening to my MP3 cds, it keeps playing. On my mercedes C240, when someone presses mute, the music pauses so that you don't miss any of it. Don't you think it would make a lot more sense for the tC to pause the CD when you press MUTE?!
speddlysmitt 12-16-2005, 03:42 PM Pause is the power button lol
partytrain 12-16-2005, 03:46 PM I think if it did that they would call it the Pause button....The mute button on my tv doesn't pause the tv shows...
scoobyroo2002 12-16-2005, 03:48 PM I think if it did that they would call it the Pause button....The mute button on my tv doesn't pause the tv shows...
  True...i mean it's pretty self explanitory. :lalala:
Spect2K3 12-16-2005, 03:52 PM I think if it did that they would call it the Pause button....The mute button on my tv doesn't pause the tv shows...
That's because it's live television and it can't pause because it doesn't have the capability, unless of course you have a DVR. I'm talking about a car here...What is the point in keeping the cd going if you are not listening to it? It just makes no sense. Mercedes has the right idea. And I don't wanna hear "O well the mercedes is an expensive car". This is a small little thing that someone at toyota/scion didn't think through. Stupidity bothers me, regardless of how insignificant it is. It is like the mute button is irrelevant unless listening to the radio. Wanna call it a pause button, go ahead, I dont care what they call it, they should just change it.

jmiller20874 12-16-2005, 03:56 PM Mute does just like it says, it mutes.
Why have a pause button in addition to the power button when they have the same function when listening to a CD?
Spect2K3 12-16-2005, 03:59 PM Mute does just like it says, it mutes.

Then what's the point of a mute button? lol
jmiller20874 12-16-2005, 04:03 PM For muting the radio/CD in a hurry instead of holding the volume down button for a few seconds. I love the fact that it'll mute the radio in an instant and then return right to the volume I had it at. Pretty convenient if ya ask me.
scoobyroo2002 12-16-2005, 04:03 PM I get what you mean though honestly. I don't even use the mute button because it's pretty much pointless. I just turn the radio off and the cd will pick up at the same spot you left it on.
What puzzles me is that my last pioneer Cd player had a pause button...GO FIGURE haaa ::silly::
azuresky 12-16-2005, 04:06 PM personally, I like the mute button, its great for a fast silence. and if you have a cd in, and you want to pause it for a second, just switch to the radio first

Why would someone hold down the volume buttom for a few seconds? Simply tap the power button and it is off, tap it again, the music continues from where you were with the same volume. In turn, mute does the same thing as the power button, only it does not pause the music.
Like he said, the previous pioneers had a pause button. Mute seems pretty pointless if it's not going to pause!

Isn't pressing the power button faster than switching to the radio then muting?
Brent_23M 12-16-2005, 04:08 PM the diff between power button and a pause button is waiting, when a cd is paused it dosnt stop spinning, instant music when un-paused verses waiting on the power button...americans very impatiant.... i wish the mute was a pause too
cherryBox 12-16-2005, 04:28 PM you know, i've never played a cd in the box.
I have the iPod HU, and use the pod most of the time - BUT I think the same trick will work...
when I want to pause/mute, I hit FM and then mute. to unpause I hit mute then aux - try that I bet it would work!

TimmyT 12-16-2005, 07:01 PM This thread is just silly. Deal with it i mean c'mon. So you press the mute button and there is magically silence. So you press the power button and *gasp* the same thing. If pressing the power button instead of the mute button gets your jollies by all means press the power button. If you are peaved that the "mute" button doesn't "pause" a CD get over it. Its a cd. Just replay the track. Evidently you like the song well enough to want to listen to all of it. Take the .5 seconds to press the button to play the track over again.
Yah know after typing all of this crap I've come to realize something. When I use my cell phone I don't even have to press ANYTHING to dial a number. Why do I have to press buttons on my head unit to play music?? GAW What kind of ghetto world are we living in?
illmatC 12-16-2005, 07:13 PM The mute button for me does what's it supposed to do, mute the sound.
Sam_J84 12-16-2005, 08:49 PM ya i hate that feature. they prob. did that b/c you can't mute live radio. so instead of puttin 2 buttons, they put 1 to cover both cd's and radio.
Banana 12-16-2005, 09:06 PM haha we are basically aruging over how long it takes to start a cd back up... I mean seriously the difference is seconds does it really matter that mcuh?
tjbartjr 12-16-2005, 11:56 PM You know, it's unsafe to drive and talk on your cell phone at the same time; perhaps you should turn your phone off when you're in the car so you don't become distracted by the decision of what button to push.
:D
BreakTheStatic 12-17-2005, 01:51 AM My old alpine had a nice feature, the attention button (similar to mute) cuts the volume by like 70% or something like that. It's great if you need to lower the volume real quick but don't want it off totally. What's great is that it comes back to full volume gradually when you press the button again, instead of just blasting your ears off. It also had a pause button. Two very nice features...
06tCguy 12-17-2005, 03:42 AM yeah, my kenwood has that(att and pause and sirius and yeah)..I'm debating on puttin it in my tC, but I'm not sure if the wiring harness is the same..if it is, I'll just get the fitment kit(single din), and I was also wondering about how the aux would be used..
phungy 12-18-2005, 12:07 AM buy another HU. [/thread]
Like the others said, Power button pauses, mute button mutes. If you want a pause button, buy a aftermarket HU.
firesquare 12-18-2005, 01:43 AM Duh...................................
Does yor T.V. pause when you hit mute?
BSP_5c10n 12-19-2005, 03:49 AM I think that's kind of stupid to have the mute button pause the CD too. Why didn't they just call it "Pause"? At least the Scion HU does what it's supposed to do. It's a mute button. The mute button mutes the sound. If it paused the CD too I'm sure they would've called it the "Pause" button. If anything Mercedes doesn't make sense. lol

lootyman 12-20-2005, 06:57 PM When i push the recycle button on my a/c, the none of the vents will accept my coke can. wtf?
magicmanjk808 12-20-2005, 07:12 PM When i push the recycle button on my a/c, the none of the vents will accept my coke can. wtf?
it would be nice if the mute did pause the cd but a mute button is to MUTE the sounds not to pause a cd.
since its a cd u can always just replay the track after you hang up
When i push the recycle button on my a/c, the none of the vents will accept my coke can. wtf?
cfusionpm 01-02-2006, 08:54 AM i'd rather just have a pause button. or like on my old HU in another car, a button that dramatically drops the volume, but its still audible; the equivelant of going from say, 40 to 5 on our HUs with the press of a button. it was nice and a lot better feature.
optional 01-05-2006, 01:04 AM i just thought of this today while on the phone with Brad, the Scikotics leader guy here and we realized that we have a power button that keeps it's place when you turn it back on, so it's basically a pause button that turns off the lights too, if you wanna try that, go for it.

hm_crespo 01-15-2006, 10:50 PM i think perspective has been lost
maybe by asking the wrong way
I honestly think it sucks that the HU doesnt have a pause button
the way i see it pause have been in cd players since they came out
this one just doesnt have it
ive always been used to that pause button
now ive gotten used to switching to FM and then muting quickly
didnt even think abt turning it off
oh well
any way just in case if any1 knows if theres a way to pause please post, dont judge
thanks guys
06tCguy 01-16-2006, 02:08 AM most stock cd players don't have a pause button..
SciontCya 01-16-2006, 02:12 AM While I have now spent enough time in the tC to understand your point, it's not there, so you need to get a round it.
I would agree - but not for the CD - for the iPod. Maybe there is a way to pause the iPod besides the power button, but the mute will have to do.
