Quick car audio question
ok here it is -- I have a POWER ACOUSTIK TS1920-2 channel amp (370 X 2 @ 4 Ohm RMS, 440 X 2 @ 2 Ohm RMS, Mono RMS: 880, Bridged Max: 1920) hooked up to one 12" Alpine type-R sub which is the dual 2 ohm model. I just bought another 12" type-r, but it is the dual 4 ohm model...i wanna make sure that I will be able to hook it up real easy. (obviously putting them in the same box). And if anyone knows anything about the subs - do they sound better (cleaner, crisper) in a ported or sealed box --if you have no clue its all good.
Mixing the VC types will give you a strange ohm load at the amp....I personally wouldn't recommend it.....
You could run one channel at 2 ohm and one channel at 4 ohm, but I don't know what that would do to the circutry of the amp....
Best thing I can think to do is find another dual 4ohm sub if you're wanting 2 of those type-r's.... if you were to do that, You could get a 4ohm mono load like you have with your dual 2ohm sub now.....

First off, you really NEED to get two matching subs(preferably two of the 4ohm versions). With that said, if you still are determined to hook it up with what you have, this is how you would want to do it.
1) The dual 2ohm you will want to hook up its voice coils in SERIES. It will give you a 4ohm load that way.
2) The dual 4ohm you will want to hook up its voice coils in PARALLEL. It will give you a 2ohm load that way.
3) Then, you will want to hook the two subs together in SERIES. It will give you an overall impedance of 6ohms.
4) Run your amp in bridged mono mode and hookup your speaker leads to it and your done!!
This is the ONLY way to SAFELY run those speakers on the amp you have!!! ENJOY!!

yea they are definitly in different chambers. No shared airspace. I'm going to show this to one of my friend's roommates (professional car audio installer) - i talked to him and he said he knows exactly how to do it for me (their other roommates car has a dual 2 ohm and a dual 4 ohm in it). Thanks for the help guys
- I also went with a sealed box - can't go wrong.

one more thing - anyone have any tips on how to apply, where to put, or any other input concerning sound deadening. I just got my 55 feet of edead extreme in today and i'm about to install it on Friday. I'm planning on doing the trunk, the hatch, and both doors. Any tips or suggestions?
