View Full Version : Scion Cargo cover is a piece of crap
hotlava 04-20-2004, 07:32 PM Did anyone else purchase this? Its the cheapest thing I've ever seen, if anyone is thinking about buying it, please let me know and I'll sell you mine for 1/2 the price... what a waste. The dealer won't even let me return it since they said it was a special order.
Max2k 04-20-2004, 07:37 PM Agreed! That's the only accessory I bought from the dealer. I was thinking of replacing the stupid adjustable straps that come on it with some elastic to make it less goddamned saggy.
softrider 04-20-2004, 08:31 PM Agree. Certainly not worth the $55 the dealer charged. But I wanted something to cover the rear section. It's a shame this one is so poorly designed. Humm, like the idea of the elastic straps. But rather spend the time doing other more worthwhile mods.

Dude, dealer only charged me $40, you got jacked. You should have purchased it as a over the counter part from the dealer. $55 is the price installed.... same goes with mats and all the other accessories that you can install yourself.
bBted 04-20-2004, 08:46 PM no doubt its a piece of sh*t...
the one came with xA looks thousand times better than ours...and its FREE

$25 shipped! Brand new, OEM.
Anyone know if there is a neoprene cover or something elastic?
yeah i got suckered on this one too. I think, the reason its all lame and saggy is because there's speakers back there and they didnt want to block the sound too much. thats the only explination for the lameness i can think of.
The_Zeeness 04-21-2004, 02:02 AM Dude, dealer only charged me $40, you got jacked.
Even at $40 I would say the buyer got "jacked". I could tie a bedsheet across my cargo bay and it'd be about as functional as the OEM cover.
that thing is a waste, i dont even use mine anymore. the xA is a lot better anyway to use that with ours???
tbblizzard 04-21-2004, 02:07 AM no doubt its a piece of sh*t...

oh yea... haha... mine did come with one... i thought maybe the dealer threw it in... stupid me, they'd never give anything out for free.
XBman 04-21-2004, 02:14 AM I didnt get that 1 b/c i saw 1 before i dot 1 and noitced it was a piece of crap. Im thinkin of makin myown 1. Maybe 1 like these below

The_Zeeness 04-21-2004, 02:25 AM If the cargo cover is too bulky it may block out a lot of the speaker sound. I can't really think of a better reason than covering up your subs or "precious cargo" that's in the back from prying eyes. I find however that with the privacy glass, it's pretty hard to spot anything back there...
westsype 04-21-2004, 02:48 AM Got mines for X-mas it is a piece of crap to remove and put on. But it does do the job it covers the cargo area.
SciJen 04-21-2004, 02:52 AM It sucks soooo bad! I don't even use it. Most things stick up too high anyway, so I end up taking it off. I just don't put it on anymore. It's such a pain to put back on... I'd rather just drape it over what ever I'm trying to hide. I was sooo disapointed.
hotlava 04-21-2004, 03:27 AM So I guess no one wants to buy mine then? I guess I'll just ebay it and find some sucker to pawn it off too...hahaha
TheScionicMan 04-21-2004, 04:40 AM I used mine to hold my tube subwoofer in place until I found something more permanent.
Just connected the clips to one side and put the tube in the middle. It kept it from rolling around... A Bazooka hammock (OK, POS NoName tube hammock)
Other than that it's useless. I coulda bought roll of Glad Clingwrap and made something more substantial...
Raven99 04-21-2004, 05:51 PM :!: wow thanks for the heads up on the cargo cover, guys! I will defintely pass over that option when ordering my 'box this fall ;)
FinalStageScion 04-21-2004, 06:36 PM Does anyone have any actual good pictures of their scion cargo cover, i was going to order one, until i read this. sounds like a real piece of garbage.
SUPASCIONXB 04-21-2004, 06:47 PM one word junk
So this thread means i gotta switch my order now? I was planning on getting dark tint anyway so i guess there is no need for it. They didnt have it installed at the dealer so i didnt get a chance to see if it was worth it or not. Thanks for the heads up on not getting it now
Chrno 04-21-2004, 07:19 PM i like mine =) it covers mah 15's
Al-Truistic 04-21-2004, 07:22 PM The cover would be ok to live with if it wasn't a pain in the ___ to take on and off! It is better than nothing IMO and damn the xA cover is worth the cost of the POS that they charge you for the xB cover! :?
VinceJr 05-10-2004, 01:52 AM Granted...something a little more solid (or less saggy) would have been better, but the cargo cover is "hard to remove"??? It's four clips that attach to four rings for Christ's sake....hard to remove would involve bolts, screwdrivers, and torque wrenches.
7red7 05-10-2004, 04:01 AM What I don't get is why theres no cargo cover and cargo net option when buying the vehicle...According to the dealership, you have to pick one or the other...My Santa Fe had both...Hell, the cargo net on the XB is such a piece of crap, I took the one from my Santa Fe when I traded it in and use that one...I have yet to get the cargo cover, but from the horror stories you guys posted, I'm not sure if it's a good idea to get it...

Al-Truistic 05-10-2004, 03:15 PM Yeah but, compared to the xA's cargo cover which is svoove and clean AND less "saggy"...it is a pain in the ___ to work even tho it deosn't involve bolts...:? In the past few days of heat my cover curled up like a chee-to...

That thing is hard as hell to remove!!! You have to fight with the clips, and the loops they attach to since they are swivel hinged they flip all around!!!
Overall, a total pain in the ___ and a waste of money... fortunately I didn't pay for mine.
scottwood2 06-26-2004, 07:34 PM Going to ask my dealer to take it back on Monday befoer I take the car. Thinking of making my own.
