Default Automatic tC's.. Do they suck? [Owners PLEASE Respond]

Hey everyone. I'm waiting for my '06 FM tC to be delivered in the middle of next month. I ordered it automatic for some reasons.

1. I'm lazy.
2. It looked nicer.
3. I don't race that much. Just speed on highways.
4. Never had too much practice on manual cars.

I want to hear from AUTOMATIC tC owners on this one. I've heard some say that the Auto tC is overlooked and fast, and then the manual owners tell me that the Auto tC isn't responsive and is slow.

My last car was a 2003 AUTO V6 Mustang (193HP). It didn't have that much power due to it's weight and RWD.

SHOULD I CALL TOYOTA/SCION TOMORROW AND CHANGE MY ORDER to manual, or stay with Auto?

Thanks!

Awesome, thanks! I've been waiting too long already to change my order and wait even longer.

Plus there are multiple threads that I just found saying that people are having problems with the manual tC's tranny/shifting.

Thanks Frank!

If you ain't racing, then AT is great! That's one of the reasons why I got AT. The other is the gf. She can't drive MT to save her ****! I couldn't bear to hear the grindin' of the gears! That's not to say that I don't like MT, I just prefer AT. Stay with AT. If you change your mind now, you might not get the original color you wanted. (Or you might have to wait...in your Zoolander voice please...A real-ley, real-ley, real-ley long time!) Good luck! BTW-when my gf does drive the tC, she says it has a lot of get-up compared to her 2K3 Matrix. (Apples to oranges, I know.) the AT tC does have some spunk!

i had an automatic turbo eclipse for nearly 3 years, and as much as i loved the stylings, turbo, and speed, i just couldnt stand that it was automatic. to me, all automatics suck. but thats just my opinion. i will probably not buy another automatic untill im too old to drive one or change my tastes. iduno. but an automatic car is never fun.

I got AT because of the reasons number 1,3, and 4. I've been driven the car for a bit over an year and I got no problem so far. (other than rattles.. )

but AT is great during rush hour...

I don't have any complaints about the automatic.

There are a lot of factors usually that should sway your decisions.. First of all, your location... how is the rush hour, how is the weather, roads, etc. Then personal preference.. I saw that you spoke about your gf and her inability to drive stick.. no puns intended .. whos car is it? Yours or hers? Its your call brotha.. I have a manual.. and I'm in love with her!

The AT is just fine. It may not have as much pull as the MT, but it still has 160 horses under the hood. It definitely has more pick up than the Civic EX or the Corolla. It's great in traffic and I love it on the highway. For regular (non-racing) kind of driving, I think you'll like it . . . if not love it. ;)

some times i wish i had an auto (rush hour trafic in chicago) they are nice and great for the price realy smooth shifting no where near as jerky as my stratus or my dads ram.

if you dont plan on doing any sort of auto x or track racing stick with the auto there are some nice mods out for it now to get in touch with sciondad if you want more info on the auto tc's

Manual is overated. You should definately own a manual car at least once in your lifetime but it gets old fast. AT is fine.

Auto is fine, but sometimes I wish I had the MT because it's more "fun" to drive... but other people besides me drive my car so the AT makes more sense.

My $.02

Test drive both. If you can live with the auto, then go for it. I know I couldn't, especially after test driving the 5sp.

IMHO AT is fine. I have the AT with AW header, and K&N CAI and the car responds well. Honestly, I love driving manual, but the car is great in AT. To each his own. I think that since you dont plan to racem the AT will be just fine. Even though, MT can be a tad more fun. Just my humble opinion. BTW congrats on the tC.

How come yota didnt put the same tranny thats in the solara with tiptronic? that way owners could have the best of both worlds. I have an auto and wouldnt trade it for a thing. You put your foot down and the car gues up to around 5100 before shifting. Never had an auto that did that.....I love my FM AT TC

Love my AT... I get a great jump off the line and it accelerates nicely. I got it for reasons 3 & 4, too.

No tiptronic shifting because that would add a lot of cost to the machine. Those trannies are expensive.

I think i have my VVTI controller trained - Takeoffs if I'm pushing fairly heavy on the throttle it will get up to 6k RPM before shifting.

maybe it's just me but after i switched to driving manual. i'll never own a sporty car again in auto. i'll only purchase a car that's auto if it's a nice luxury car. to me cars like the tc or any other in the sporty category should be dominatly manual because that's it's nature. like it was stated earlier 'you should own at least one manual car in your life.' if you're thinking about it, go for it.

i've always said that the best way to practice stick is in your own car. just make sure you have someone who knows it in the passenger seat to help you out. don't be like me -i learned in my 02 civic si with no one to teach me. all my friends that knew stick were always to busy with work. lol.

all of this also depends on what the traffic is like in your area. My Spec V was a stick and there was nothing like a ride to work in first gear for an hour.
Now I have the auto TC and life is much better. You still can't beat the fun of a stick on the open road.

lol. true. that's a downfall for manual. being stuck in rush hour traffic....... first - shift - second - neutral - repeat. =P
